Draake was manipulative. As soon as she stopped responding to him the way he liked, he disrespected the space she needed to recover from Chris. He was coercive at times and the industry was pressuring her.
Abusers are manipulative. Before they start hitting you, they gaslight you, undermine you and generally try to make you emotionally dependent on them. Drake exposed her for being unfair to his feeings. He was possessive. He pretended he did not care about her 1 minute and then acted clingy and needy after that. He may not have meant to, but women who come from abusive relationships have to be very firm about their boundaries.
Rihanna watched her mother have an abusive and emotionally manipulative relationship and she repeated that relationship with Chris. It took public humiliation and years of mending her heart. SHe said, "I could not have left (Chris) any other way." She was smart enough and self-aware enough to know that she needed a different kind of relationship.
This is completely editorial but because of Rihanna keeping her cool and unbothered demeanor in public we've never seen or heard about the emotional butt hurt texts drake was probably sending her late at night when he gets a bit tipsy and is in his feelings. That's what I would think is the reason why she was so cold to him in public. Drake would make a grand public gesture looking like the nice guy and when his fragile ego got hurt he'd probably lash out at her in private the most emotional way. We know that's not out of sync with his character, just look at how he deals with media personalities and critics when they hurt his ego!
