Korean-Style BBQ Beef
Servings: 2-3
INGREDIENTS
700 grams rib eye steak, or any other well-marbled, tender cut
½ onion, cut into chunks
3 cloves garlic
½ pear, peeled and cut into chunks
1 spring onion, cut into chunks
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon black pepper
⅓ cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons sesame oil
½ onion, cut into thin slices
1 tablespoon canola oil
2 spring onions, sliced into ½ centimeter rounds, to garnish
1 teaspoon sesame seeds, to garnish
Rice, to serve
Korean side dishes (banchan), to serve (optional)
PREPARATION
Slice the beef as thinly as you can, then set aside in a large bowl. Having frozen or cold beef makes the slicing easier.
In a blender or food processor, blend the onion chunks, garlic, pear, spring onion pieces, brown sugar, pepper, soy sauce, and sesame oil until smooth.
Pour the marinade over the beef, add the onions, then mix evenly. Cover with cling film and marinate for at least 30 minutes in the fridge.
Heat canola oil in a skillet over high heat.
Being careful not to crowd the pan, sear the marinated beef and onions until browned, then sprinkle with the spring onions and sesame seeds.
Serve with the rice and side dishes!

I had a lot of skepticism for this video since they throw everything in a blender. But I gave it a shot since it was way easier than other recipes. It came out amazing! It tasted every bit as authentic as the KBBQ from Korea Town.
What kind of soy sauce did u use? Dark or light
@@Hana-tv1kh It was many years ago, but if my memory serves me right, it's Kimlan soy sauce.
Did you use american pear or asian pear? Saw a chef lady recommend the asian one specifically for some kind of enzyme it has
@@prw56 Just an FYI, you can use kiwi instead of asian pear for essentially the same flavor and tenderizing effect, albeit kiwis are stronger so use a little less

YAY!! agreed!
Thanks for the recipe. I prepared for my wife and boys last night. Everybody loved it. I served it with Thai Sticky Rice. No leftovers.
I remember tasting this at a Korean bbq place in my city for the first time and was expecting it to be like any other kind of beef I have tried, tough and chewy. I tasted it and it was the most tender fall apart piece of meat I have ever tried I probably reordered about 4 big servings of that.
I was stationed in Korea for a year and literally ate Bulgogi 5-10 times a week. I still have dreams about this dish!!!
So does this recipe come close to what you had ?
@@ShakibBaig1 You know that a week consists of 7 days and not 5, right?
Same here, I was stationed in Korea in 93 and the bulgogi was amazing
I just tried this recipe tonight and it was very delicious. Now my go to for making bulgogi at home!
Got the time to make this few nights ago and happy i did. Taste delightful! That marinade sauce is the boss! My compliments.
A video on how to make all of the Korean side dishes would be a great video idea 🤔👌🏼
I just made this following these instructions and using the ingredients listed. It came out really good! Next time I’m going to leave out the sesame oil though, it can be a little over powering. But all and all, it came out great!!
Who knew it was this simple? I could have been making this for years.
i tried it a few times since the quarantine and i can tell you, its pure pleasure and totally worth it. some add carrots, honey/ brown sugar and sake, but this seems to be the very basic recipe. going out for korean food became less sexy for me since i have learned how to make kimchi and bulgogi in the past 7 days :D
@Jay Johnson How did it turn out?
@Jay Johnson Lmao
I’ve always wanted to try Bulgogi and this look AMAZING!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤤🤤🤤
My daughter made this last night with New York steaks and it was AMAZINGGGGGG! I don't think I'll ever eat regular broiled steak again.
Had a Korean sister-law who taught me to cook Korean dishes. What a wonderful gift to me. This was one.
Finally some Korean dishes! Thank you Tasty!

Any Maangchi fans here? :'D
Shivani Kuthe Yes! 🙋🙌🙋
Shivani Kuthe yes!!
Okay to use her recipes as a starting point. I always have to add stuff for flavor though, like beef or pork broth.

Bad Boys lol....
Deadass read that in Mike Lowry's voice 😂
I ADORE bulgogi!!! Thanks for the recipe!
Looks amazing! I hope you guys do a Korean spicy stir fry pork recipe next :-)
This is actually my favorite korean food.
I've tried, it's delicious! I eat this bbq bulgogi with boiled bok choy, and seasoned baked potatoes & tomatoes. I'm on diet rn. I thought the amount of beef that I prepared is for two people (since we're on diet, so we're used to small portion). Ended up the marinate sauce I prepared is too much 😂 but it's okay tho, I could use the sauce for another time too~! The pear in the ingredients confused me a lot! I've never eat cooked food with a pear before. Turns out it helps in twisted the taste of the beef, a unique flavour ~! I also added 1 tbsp of bottled bbq sauce, just to add the flavour. Also, instead of 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, I only put 1 tbsp in it. The sweet soy sauce & the pear already has sweet flavour, so less sugar is enough. Anyways, thankyou for this recipe! I'll surely recommend to my family & friends too! ♥️
oh my, I'm drooling over here, can't wait to try this recipe.
Bulgogi is SO good! I always order pork bulgolgi whenever I go to my local Korean restaurant.
Just made this, used cheap oyster blade steak. Came out beautifully, didn't use 3 tablespoons of Sesame oil, as it was very strong as is. Used a bit more soy sauce than recommended. Loved it.
so cool!! i'm gonna try this! love this style of simple easy recipe video - thank you! was really easy to find in the search too .
So good
Hey guys when you use pear, if you want the original taste used in the video you should use korean pear (배), it's different from Normal curvy pears, it's big and completely round.
If you dont have Asia pears you can use 7up or sprite..
armst012 sure i guess but I was just talking about if you want the original taste used in the video, not substitutes
Melody Park pk t la alors que c tasty
Can i use apple instead of pear? I cant find pear here in africa! And can I use bushmeat instead of beef?
may i know whats the purpose of using pear?
I tried it and it's soo good 😍😍😍 definitely will make again 😍
I didn't have a pear but I had apples so I used one of those instead . Honestly, this was one of the easiest, most satisfying dishes I've made in a while. Like, there's nothing easier than throwing a bunch of stuff in a blender, mixing it with meat, and throwing it on a pan. I'm definitely going to start making this more often (with pears next time) and bringing leftovers to work for lunch.
Pear has an enzyme called calpain which acts as a meat tenderizer. I doubt apple has that enzyme as I haven't seen it used in Asian cooking.
Well you can use kiwi,if you don't have pear.@cookingwithsanjay
Love using Bulgogi for tacos... so good!
I tested it..its great.and thanks for sharing with us
I LOVE KOREAN BEEF. When i had dated a korean guy he oooked this for me so so good.

Thank you so much for sharing! This tasted great! If I could slice the ribeye thinner would be better but thicker cut was okay as well. Taste was amazing and simple!

That looks so good
I made this recipe and all i can say is that it's delicous :3
I just made this, it's so good and easy.
How long do you cook it for on the pan?
this looks simple and good
Tip: add 7-Up for sweetness and to help it marinade to be more tender.
This
I heard 7-up is a good subsitute for asian pear. and how much 7-up would you recommend?
Hey ummm can you tell me how to prepare the meat and what type of meet exactly should I use for it? Sorry but this is the first time I'm cooking meat or anything related to meet.
7 up or apple juice!
How much seven up should we add?
Never seen so many positive comments before xD How refreshing!
tasty I like it
best beef recipe ever thank you for sharing
Love this channel. Why should we have to watch a hr long video to make a dish. Hahaha😂😂. Keep the videos coming tasty
I'm South Korean and bulgogi is AMAZING!! So is ramen!
I love korean food.
I had already guessed most of the ingredients in bulgogi marinade except the pear, and now that I see it I think it's genius.
Thank you for the video.
Thanks for the Korean subtitles!
now I am hungry af
This was so delicious and authentic tasting. And I used half a honey crisp apple instead since there's no asian pears where I live.
tastes legit ! Made it today
Thank you for sharing. Tried some of this at Costco's tasting sample day, and they had it in a package that Costco makes. We're heating it up now, but I think I'd like to learn how to make it. So, thanks for sharing this. Subbing ...
For the first time, tasty post a legit recipe that I got not much to correct about.

I can’t edit your bulgogi recipe.
But, I can tell you
You’re missing an important
prolific ingredient: *Ginger*
lol thats not what prolific means
Samantha Lusignan u can either grate fresh ginger or use ginger powder
C A to each thier own.
Traditionally, no.
As of recent food trends, yes, Gochujang goes with everything.
I only dip sashimi and cucumbers in Gochujang sauce.
oOf
@@Chckt most Koreans do dip sashimi in gochujang. So it's perfectly normal, nothing new.
thats the easiest and fastest cooking video I've watched for years
that looks delicious
tae literally loves this stuff.

I love bulgogi
Something was missing when making this recipe and I figured it out! Ginger! Add a tablespoon to the recipe to get a more unami taste!

Not native but my dad lived in Korea for 12 years, serves this dish with roasted garlic and mushrooms in a leaf of lettuce. So making this my next dinner.
Short and straight to the point thanks. What’s the sauce people use to dip it in
I've got this marinating, hoping it turns out yummy! We're going to serve it in lettuce wraps

최강훈 north or south? hello
+Lisa Lynn Has to be South. Plus, the only "Korea" in terms of the actual names is South. North Korea is apparently called "The Republic of Korea" or something like that now.
Lisa Lynn of course I'm from south! If I'm in north right now I'm gonna get killed for watching CZcams
최강훈 sorry
Lisa Lynn it's ok lol
