    As an 8 year old kid, I used to watch this show on a nightly basis. Reason being, I used to sit there and literally write down notes in my notebook because I was planning on starting my own identical game show, but for kids and in a toy store.

    The couple in the bonus round was smart to run to the place where the product would be (i.e. the drinks for Gatorade) and just look for the tag. Too many teams seem to hang around in one spot trying to figure out the clue. What a nice win for them :-)

      Even worse was after Supermarket Sweep was Shop Till You Drop. And man, they were living in the 90s, thats for damn sure!
      The tucked in shirts, pastel, teal, flourescents. The khakis with the white sneakers. Oh, and those who were stuck in the 80s with the Bon Jovi Groupie Hair, the mullets, and the 80s clothes. Oh my.

    As a kid, I wanted more than anything a toy store shopping spree.
    If you were a kid who grew up in the late 80s-early 90s, then you know that shopping spree giveaways were a big thing back then, and very popular.
    I seriously used to make lists of what I would get if I was in one. You know....just in case. lol

    • @DJRitty

      Me too lol Now we didn't have toys r us in canada back then. We had one with a purple panda mascott Toy _________ and I remember one year a fake toys r us moved into the old dominion in st laurent shopping center (and they had a glass wall so you could see inside the store from in the mall...and it was TOYS everywhere.... 80's and 90's kids had the best toys...Xanadu was one of these stores, so many action figures...video games...etc etc... Heaven. I did the list thing too, what I'd grab first lol I'll always have this mental image of going on vacation to Virgina and they had a magic kingdom theme type toystore (google has pics if anyone remembers) and there was just - what seemed like - a wall to the ceiling on LJN WWf figures...big john studds for all of the usa almost lol)... I got some Ghostbusters figures and the ghostbuggy and Fangster...it was such good prices my dad bought me a lot. We didn't have that back home...

    You'll also notice the new think music for the Round Robin game as well. So yeah, SS did have 6 seasons altogether on Lifetime after all. Seasons 3 and 4 had only 1 mini-sweep an episode with the 1993 season introducing us to the 2nd mini-sweep, Ruprecht wearing shirts and ties, the Candy Corner, the TV Mystery Product, the International Bread Center and the VHS section of the supermarket and the 30-second shootout game. BTW, the 1992 season was also the first to have mid-episode fee plugs.

    • @jerrywright4886
      @jerrywright4886 Před 7 lety

      I noticed that during the epsodes of Season 2 (late 1990), the $5,000 cash fan was attached to the back of the product. In the next season, the money fan is no longer attached on the back of the product because they added a new rule to the bonus round that the team has to have their hands on the money by the time the time's-up bell rang in order to win the money. I think it happened during the first season.

      Not to mention that the carts used for the Fall 1990 season were higher up, shallower, and held much less groceries. Unlike the Winter/Spring 1990 season, when Hughes Markets provided the supermarket contents, and the meat/turkeys were real, this was the first season to utilize realistic, weighted plastic replicas, so the contestants didn't get 'meat juice' on the sweatshirts. Beginning with the Spring 1991 season, they brought back the classic, deep shopping carts, and made the plastic replicas bigger, and more heavier. I could recall that on the first season, only two teams had a total higher than $1,000. Only one team had a total higher than $1K in season two, and three in season three. The all-time record, happened in the final season, when a team who amassed 3:30 (or 4:00 of sweep time), literally snapped up every bonus in sight and amassed a record total of $2,048.
      Linda Ann Kozlowski, who designed the Sweep outfits was very protective of her sweatshirt/dickey outfits on the show. I heard, from a contestants' interview on the AV Club website, that only the losing teams got to keep their outfits (and consolation gifts), while the winners simply got the cash.

      Yes, and according to Game Show Wiki, the opening spiel for Season 2 (late 1990) went like this: "How would you like to find $5,000 in the supermarket? Imagine, picking a product off your supermarket shelf and attached to it is all that cash, and it's yours to keep! All you have to do is run around the market, grab everything as fast as you can! If you can grab more than anyone else, you'll get that chance to go for the $5,000! You say your supermarket won't let you do it? Well, hang on, because we let people do it all the time on the one and only game show that makes it possible, Supermarket Sweep!"

    Yes it did, the 1993 season also had violet-red and aqua-colored sweatshirts switched numbers and the yellow sweatshirts remained at "3" but now darker shaded and that season also introduced the total displays at the bottom right corner of the screen. Now, in addition to the Shopping List bonus, the 1991 or the 1992 season I think introduced the Manager's Special, and the 1993 season would be the only season to have the Cake Decoration and the Coupon bonuses I think.
