    Well said Mr Palaniyappan, Ms Oviya, Mrs. Sujatha. What Mr. Palaniyappan said about Mahakavi Bharathi came as a surprise. I just found out that the meeting with Nivedita-di influenced Bharathiyaar to fight for the freedom of women.
    Actor Mr Aamir Khan recently did a show called 'Masculinity harms men' and similar views that of the guest speakers of the show here, were shared there too. One of the guest was Kamal Bhasin, who has written extensively about masculinity. The cultural mindset of an Indian man is the same across the board, whether it is a UP man who cannot hold a child in his arms, or a Haryanvi man who feels that a women must be slapped when she stands up and she sits down. I sincerely wish that this attitude of men changes soon.

      very true. She started off as someone who makes sense. But she is offlate becoming one of those eternal activists who see problem and issue with every single event that happens in the world.
      She doubts every action of men. I dont know why she doesnt speak about the senior women in villages who dominate younger women, like Mother-in-law or senior female employees dominating juniors in Panchayat, Political offices, Corporation etc.
      She talks as if all Women always respect another woman. I have openly seen Women hate another women even in big corporate offices. The reasons behind the hate will be silly.

    What a completely biased point of view from writer oviya.She has proved that she is a bonafide feminist..she is probably living in the 1960s still, wonder why they keep inviting her.Insecure people are always insecure be it man or woman but she goes on to say that only men are insecure..If a man praises another woman in front of his wife then obviously she will feel insecure,it's a completely normal thing, the same applies to the husband too ..I am sure that most men these days wont suppress their wives if they are talented,educated and could contribute financially, this is the 21st century for gods sake...She and her feminist theory,she is the one that has lost all touch with reality...

      No, i am saying that she is still using the same broad brush to describe all men...Agreed, there was a time when things were bad but now you see thousands of working women, no one is suppressing them,it's not the same scenario you saw in 1960's...

    • @parvathi8046
      @parvathi8046 Před 9 lety +4

      snvp See, there's a role that society asks men and women to fill....For men, it is be the dominating person and for women is the subversive role. Even though its not 1960's there are certain pressures from society which forces a man to be dominant and wife to be subversive. I think that's what Oviya Madam meant..by suppression.. Men had got sensitized. But, society hasn't. Even though they want to cast away those roles..society expects you to maintain it and calls you hen-pecked...So men keeps on playing those roles even though we live in 21 century....like u said. U said that if a man praises another women in front of his wife, she feels insecure.What u don't understand is that the society expects the women to be insecure....But a person who is confident and believes that he/she is a unique person doesn't feel insecurity under those circumstances.

    When the ship is drowning, will the feminist accept the offer to be saved first because She's a women? ...or will she reject the offer because she believes in total equality? .. The ones who reject the offer, the ones who seek no extra privileges just because they are women.. are the only women who believe they are equal to men. The rest...are weak cake eaters.

    • @bhavloves
      @bhavloves Před 9 lety +14

      Loosuthanama irku neenga pesradhu. Women have been oppressed for years. If they take the minor benefits given by society, there's nothing wrong in it. Seriously speaking - how many times does the "ship drowning" scenario happen these days? Do we really want to count that against the number of dowry deaths, female foeticides, sexual harassment, infanticides, rapes and abusive relationships? Do the math.

    • @realitiesquestioned7818

      Desdemona oh come on... you speak as if women are saints, female sex criminals, including paedophiles are given a blind eye ..by the law. When a woman commits the same sex crime as a man, she's given a lesser sentence than the one a man gets, so many examples. Especially female paedophiles go unnoticed, because of prejudice in the society.

      Desdemona Why should the present generation of men, pay for the mistakes of previous generations? You think it is fair? .. this is like asking the Germans to pay for Nazi crimes.
      How do you expect a man to treat a woman equally when she expects privileges from him just because she's a woman?? When she expects privileges, indirectly she's saying she's less than a man or dependent on the man. She's giving the wrong signals.
      Women, if they wish to be treated equally, they must stop depending on men for silly things. Start taking responsibilities. Have confidence in themselves.

      ***** Who is asking men to pay for the mistakes of previous generations? I'm saying there's nothing wrong in giving benefits to people who are oppressed for several generations - the kind of oppression that takes a long time to recover from. Reservations based on caste? Same thing. The rates of crime by women isn't unnoticed - it is actually extremely low - because of the very same reason, historical oppression, controlled by men, limited means and fear (because they're not powerful). If a woman committed a crime, she will be punished. She should be. I'm not denying that at all. Let's still do the numbers. I have no doubts.
      Why are men so unwilling to concede that women have been oppressed and be kind enough to let them live? Why are you so unwilling to listen to women's rights activists? Do you not see reality? I can't even walk out safely out of my house after 8. Why? Because society views women as objects that can be violated if it is without the supervision of a male. Do you know how many opportunities women lose to interact with the world, learn and grow merely because of this reason - they're kept at home? Do you think it is fair? Are they actually on an equal footing?
      Do you know the number of times parents tell their girl children or others in front of their girl children that it is enough if she passed and got a basic degree to get her married? Do they do the same for boys? Do you know the effect of parental motivation in a child's success?
      Stop being blind. Please. You're already in a position of privilege. Be happy. Stop pushing down people who're already struggling in a country that doesn't value women.

      Desdemona Position of privilege?..expected to open doors for women, expected to go and fight if the country is at war..expected to go outside and check what's wrong if there's a noise etc .. that's not privileged.
      Women were oppressed, True. But why?...Why didn't they fight back or fight enough? If they had fought enough, they would have won. Or did they lose? If they lose..then doesn't that mean women are not equal?
      Why are you restraining yourself after eight? Why can't you you defend yourself? Are you physically not fit as a man? then carry a weapon. Defend yourself by any means. Why don't you fight for your freedom? Take the risk. Go out. If someone tries to hurt you, defend yourself. Don't expect the society to change, if you are not prepared to take risks. If every woman starts to defend themselves, you think men would hurt them?
      What I think is not fair is that...you and other women, not willing to take risks, not having the will to fight for your freedom.. but expecting the society to change. The society will not change, unless you take drastic steps. Society won't change if women are expecting privileges. Stop expecting privileges. Life is tough. not fair. You must fight your cause.
      I am not being blind. I am being honest and pragmatic. Women must prove they are worthy of being treated equally. Start fighting. Talking wont help.
