  • Hello hamster 🐹 friends!
    I'm Rachel and I'm here with my weekly update on what's happening with my Roborovski hamsters, Steven and Sofia (housed separately).
    This week I'll be reviewing the Niteangel Super Silent Hamster Wheel! I love this wheel so much it didn't even occur to me to do a review of it- I wish I had something constructive to say about it but I just love this wheel!
    Update 12/17/20: The Niteangel Super Silent Wheel now comes in Small, Medium, Large, and soon, XL! The size featured in this video is size M, 10". Large is 11" and XL is 12". Great for all you Syrian hamster lovers out there.

    i ordered the wheel for my dwarf and when it arrived i thought it would be a bit big and was afraid he wouldn’t be able to push it. for awhile i was scared he wasn’t even using it!! then last night he decided to put a bunch of seeds in it, and finally i know that he uses it lol

    This is my all-time-favorite wheel. I used to have the Zacro acrylic wheel, that I bought before you made your review video on it. It was ok, but very heavy for my hamster to push and it had no way for the hamster to grip it. I ended up putting adhesive cork on the track, now my sister's hamster uses it. I got the Niteangel wheel, it's the best!! Great video!!

      @@Allthingshamster haha! I know! Remember how only a year ago good hamster wheels were so hard to find!? But, I still like the Zacro, I use them for my dwarf hamsters. I have considered adding cork, I think this is a great idea, but my dwarfs don't have any trouble pushing the zacro and they do tend to be wheel pee-ers, so I've just kept it as is for the time being. Honestly I am really wanting this wheel I currently have the silent spinner and tbh I don’t really think that my hamster likes it very much. Also I LOVE that Niteangle offers different colors the mint perfectly matches my room. Now I have wheel jealousy because sister just asked me for a wheel recommendation for my nephew’s hamster and I recommend this one . From what I am hearing both my sister and nephew are loving it as well as Hammy their hamster.

    I’m also trying to potty train my dwarf djungarian hamster. How I do it, is I use a small plastic sauce dish, about less than an inch high, and put a little bit of his bedding that he has peed on in the dish and clean bedding also. The old bedding is so that he knows the smell and will continually pee there. And the new bedding is so that his fur isn’t coated in pee when he leaves the dish. I would recommend washing the dish daily, but keep a few pieces of his old bedding from the dish, so he remembers the smell and will continue to use the dish. I’ve been trying for a couple weeks and the results are pretty good!! Hope it helps

      Hi! I’ve been meaning to do an updated robo wheel video! This is a great question. Without knowing your robo I think I would recommend 10”/size M.
      For comparison, my larger robo, Steven (shown in this video, although he’s pretty young here) is 40g , a large, long robo and uses the size M/10” niteangel and 12” silent runner. I’ve tried 8” with him, he does okay with it but it looks a bit small for him.
      Sofia, my other robo, is a smaller robo, 25g (robos are generally 20-40g) she uses an 8” /S niteangel and a 9” silent runner. I’ve also given her the 10” niteangel and she did fine on it but the 12” is hard for her to push.
      I hope this helps! Is your robo still young or getting older? What size wheel does she use now?

    • @jianbin4287
      @jianbin4287 Před 2 lety

      @@RachelGotHamsters Hi! Thank you so much for the reply :D
      I'm not entirely sure how large or heavy my robo is! I've had her for about close to 1.5 years now.
      Her current wheel is an 8" Savic Orbital! I do think she's doing fine on it but the wheel's falling apart!
      I usually switch between Robos and WWs, but definitely hoping to go as large as possible since that means their backs will be straighter.
      Following your experience perhaps I should opt for a 10" wheel? :( The wheels do look super light though! and absolutely silent!
      I do also get to choose between a clear acrylic Niteangel (no tracks) or a colourful one (with tracks), which do you think is better? :) will the clear one be too slippery!
      Oh my so much uncertainties haha if only I could buy all of them without burning a hole in my pocket!

    • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  Před 2 lety

      @@jianbin4287 haha I understand the debate! I think for robos they do better with the little tracks like on the Niteangel Super Silent. The acrylic version I’ve found they struggle getting it going and it’s a bit heavier and harder for them to control. Little Steven would fall a lot on the acrylic wheel (although he did get better at using it with time). I now use the acrylic wheels with my campbells dwarves and they do very well on them. Also so pretty!
      I just released a video about robo wheels- maybe this will be helpful? I think either the 8” or 10” for you, if they’ve already been doing well on the 8” maybe I’d stick to that.. my little robo Sofia can use the 10” niteangel but she looks a little bit more haphazard and does better on 8-9” wheels. • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  Před 3 lety

      10” is definitely okay for a dwarf hamster! My dwarf hamsters (not shown in this video) currently use a 9.5” wheel and a 9” and do fine.
      One of my robos uses a 12” wheel and is totally okay on it.
      Honestly, if you’re planning on a Syrian I might opt for the 12” wheel. I think a dwarf would be fine on it and you won’t have to worry about it being too small for your future Syrian.
      I read a lot of reviews on Amazon and it sounds like some male Syrians do okay on the 10” Niteangel but most people say it’s a little tight and would recommend a 12” for a Syrian.
      Female Syrians will definitely need 12”, they get pretty big!

      Hi! I do sometimes have this problem- I have another video about the silent runners you’ll see I mention it.
      I think in time I’ve gotten better at getting the tension just right and checking before I went to bed. Steven (shown in this video) has both the Niteangel super silent wheel and the 12” silent runner. I still wake up at 3 am every once in a while, and if it happens I just remove that wheel, he still has the other one.
      I can’t figure out fully why it happens, sometimes it’s fine and sometimes it clicking and clanking, sometimes I tighten it and it’s still noisy!
      I think I’ve probably gotten accustomed to sleeping through the noise.

    • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  Před 3 lety +3

      Hmm, that’s a great question! In my opinion and experience, I notice that if I give a flipping hamster a larger wheel, they flip less or not at all. On the “flip” side, I think there’s also a learning curve for any new wheel and she may just need the time to figure out how to control her speed and how to slow down when she’s done running. The size small/8” size you have is definitely big enough for a dwarf (except a Chinese hamster), but every ham is different! Can I ask, is she young? What size was her previous wheel?

    • @cavy5300
      @cavy5300 Před 3 lety

      Yes, she (Cinnamon) is very young, I just got her about 2 1/2 weeks ago from Petco, she is a DJ. I gave her at first the Kaytee silent spinner and the blue flying saucer. Petco uses the yellow flying saucer. I wanted to get her a better wheel, so I upgraded her. (I removed the flying saucer too, with her speed I was worried she would fly right off of it) Thank you for your response, hubby too said that he thought she just needed to get used to it, but it makes me feel better hearing it from a more experienced hamster mommy.

      @@cavy5300 aww good! I hope she gets the hang of it soon! I think young hams show their age when it comes to wheel use. I also have that blue disc (7.25”) I use sometimes for play time, depending on the ham (some hams can handle it, some can’t and are too crazy!), I think it’s nice for variety as long as the size is right and they can be safe :)

      Hi! So sorry, it sounds like large is out of stock, but I’m sure it will come back!
      Large is 12”
      Medium is 10”
      Small is 8”
      For a Syrian, size L/12” is preferable. Medium/10” might be okay if they are a small Syrian. 8” /small is too small for a Syrian.

    Can u attach the wheel straight to a cage or does it need to be on a stand?

    • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  Před 2 lety

      You *can* attach it to a cage but the base has to remain attached, it doesn’t work without the base. So to me, it’s silly to attach unless you’re worried about it tipping over.
      Tbh I’ve found very few wheels that work well with cages, they all rattle the bars and are loud. If sound is not a worry I would go with the Silent Runner from Exotic Nutrition, 12” for a Syrian, 9” should work for most dwarves and robo’s (although I have one robo on the 12” size).
      The Kaytee Silent Spinner in 10” or 12” also works well in a cage.
      You’ll need the Prevue 528 or a similarly sized cage, the other cages sold in the US are too short for a 12” wheel unfortunately 😿
      Hope this helps! What kind of hamster & cage do you have?

    • @RachelGotHamsters
      @RachelGotHamsters  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi! Contrary to popular hamster belief, hamsters actually need large wheels. For robos (like the hamster in this video, the smallest type of hamster) the smallest wheel you’d want to use is 8” in diameter. For Syrian hamsters (“teddy bear” hamsters) you’ll want to use a 12” or larger. Hamsters must have a straight back when running on their wheel, if their wheel is too small and they have to arch their back they will be in a lot of pain and may have more serious back injuries over time.

      @RachelGotHamsters  Před 3 lety

      Hi! I read some Amazon reviews and photos and there are many Syrians using the size m, 10” wheel (I believe this is also bc they didn’t have a size L in the beginning). Some people commented that they felt it was too small for their Syrians (it does look a little cramped). Some Syrians looked okay. I think this really depends on the size of your ham- I believe female Syrians are bigger, so if you have a female you probably can’t go with 10”.
      I understand the reserve about the color though!
      As an alternative I would recommend the Silent Runner 12” Glow, this one is somewhat neutral (although it does glow in the dark!)
      I just checked Amazon and the size L Niteangel is available in people, green and brown!
      You could also get a Kaytee Comfort Wheel, 12” (almost half the price!) while you wait for your color to come back in stock! Not silent but safe for your Syrian! I always like to have a back up wheel for play time or just in case anyway :)
      I hope this helps! Good luck! 🍀

      Hello, that's ok I was still able to make it work for my Daughter's cage. But the cage is a double with a glass tank as the bottom level and the metal part is on the top level. So what I did was secure it to the bottom part of the glass cage using 2 velcro command strips so it won't tip, and for easy removal while cleaning. It is working out perfectly this way, still quiet and he loves it. I hope this helps!
