I remember this match very well!! The 1st innings belonged completely to one man; the legendary Graham Gooch and his iconic 333. While in the 2nd innings it was Ravi Shastri's fine and elegant 100 and skipper Azharuddin's brisk, classy 121. Though India lost that match by a huge margin of 247 runs, our favourite teenage prodigy Tendulkar with his 1st Test ton(119*) and with the help of Manoj Prabhakar salvaged a draw for India in Manchester.

Even though this pitch was a batting paradise, Ravi's footwork in getting to the pitch of the ball against Eddie Hemmings and playing straight to the 150k+ thunderbolts from Devon Malcolm shows how much he was underrated as a technically competent and organized opener!
One request, Lords Cricket Ground. Can you post the highlights of the Mohammad Azharuddin innings from this match? It was one of most glorious exhibitions of batting I've ever seen and would love to revisit those memories!

If so, why were Shastri and Azharuddin the only people who scored well? Ravi Shastri's technical prowess is on wonderful display here. Excellent timing, placement, and shots.

Ravi shastri was most intelligent cricketer. He knew his strength and weaknesses well. He even retired early then became manager, coach and commentator. He enjoyed his life to the fullest. When I was in school and college I remembered girls had crush on him.

wondering how a player like Ravi shashtri played so long for Ind, if not for Mumbai domination in BCCI, he wouldnt have played more than 10 matches, such a below average player playing so long shows how bad was the BCCI selection committee those days.
