Thorpe's close in catching and first innings 80 - underrated contributions from an underrated player.
Fantastic work from Caddick and Gough.
Nice to see Beefy and Bob Willis on comms.
Thorpe has been the fulcrum of this English side in mid, late 90's and early 00's.
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Cain Connor instablaster =)
@Jerome Brendan Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Jerome Brendan it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account :D
Alec Stewart was exceptional behind the wickets .. great 'keeping
3:45 ..is the wicket shown when someone picks Wasim Akram in their all time xi 👍
@Waleed Ahmed yes ....some other wicket should be shown like a yorker or something
Akram is a real genius 👍🏻.
Most of my fellow Indians may agree with this.
RYAN SIDEBOTTOM makes his debut in this test match (2001)and came back 6 years later in 2007. 😄
Also in wc t 20
I know his brother Frank. He's quite big- headed but a lotta fun. 👍
@@colinstewart1432😂😂
@@colinstewart1432his father played for Manchester United. Ryan's father that is. 😂
Darren Gough was the best bowler of England that time.
Also in odis also
Definitely. He had a killer yorker when he was on his game 👍
By a mile
✅
agreed
Shoaib,wasim,waqar,azhar,razaq,
5 fast bowler at same time playing in a match.legendry
Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib, Azhar and Razzaq.
5 proper fast bowlers
Oh my Allah but those bois could ball. Allah willing if the ball swinged.
Azhar was a swing bowler and Razzaq was medium fast and an odi bowler didn't do anything much with the ball. Handy all rounder tho
Waqar had past his prime. Wasim was very ordinary in this series.
A very rare moment when Shoaib Akhtar plays test match in England....in fact, his only one in England!
Actually he did play others
Great memories from 2001. Pakistan won the second test at Manchester and drew the series 1-1. Saqlain + wasim got 4 wickets off no balls which the late David Shepherd failed to spot. DRS would have been handy that time lol
Ah the great old memories. Never been a supporter of either of these teams but as a kid and cricket lover i always used to eagerly wait for English summer cricket. Most test series and matches used to start on Thursdays and as school got closed for weekend after Thursday I was very excited. Didn't have internet or mobile back then but just those ads on ESPN and Star Sports informing about all the upcoming events. Life was simple then.
N.B. this scorecard was also one of my most favorites.
Those amazing afternoons!
The problem with England's performances in the late 90's was not that they couldn't win matches - they could. But as the 1998 summary very aptly says: "England are occasionally brilliant but often fall short of the standard required." England had 3 consistent players - Thorpe for batting and Thorpe alone consistently for batting with sporadic performances from Stewart, Atherton, Butcher and Hussain. Then you had Caddick and Gough for bowling. The batting just wasn't sufficient to be a good team on the world stage. The bowling was too centralised around 2 good bowlers too.
Edit: It should be noted that this match included Vaughan and Trescothick. Two players who really added some class to England's batting and this helped them transition from bad to passable with further changes made by 2005 to allow them to finally be able to viably compete with the likes of Australia. (See Ashes series of 2005)
man imagine if gough hoggard caddick harmison played same team what an attack that would have been
Sporadic performances from Stewart? He scored more runs than any other player in test cricket in the 90s.If he was sporadic, what does that say about the rest?
@@71CMM Stewart was massively overrated and cost England more than one test with his sub-standard wicketkeeping.
caddick gough thorpe stewart and vaughan a few class acts from that dire spell of english cricket.
To be fair though, there were some bloody strong sides around at that time.
And trescothick
Rare moment's when Azhar and Razzaq were both playing.
They both played together in 99 wc cup and also 2000 carlton odi series in aus
The golden era of International Cricket Council.
Two WW in action wao . Wasim & Waqar
Shoieb akhtar was barely seen in one or two footage. This is rare 😁
Shoaib Akhtar is overrated

Test Match cricket at its best. Great game of cricket, keep uploading videos like this..........
Test cricket was at its best in those days
Abdul Razzaq at no 3 in a test match...🤔😱😵.....Scoring 50 against England in that position when Caddick & Gough on 🔥.....😵😵😵.....well done 👍👏👏👏
Ian Ward from Sky Sports is playing for England!!! Never knew he was a player
He was useless
@@andrewmaitland3612 He was an international player. Players don't become internationals by being useless.
Absolute shocking technique. Only got picked because he played for Surrey.
Proper shite
Robert Mason Totally agree utter garbage
Caddick was some bowler
Would imagine he would be hell to face in English conditions. Martin Bicknell was another similar kind of bowler, but he didn't get many opportunities.
@@stevendavies417 Caddick had the pace that Bicknell didn't. But Bicknell could move it each way .
@@jamessummers4015 lack of pace was probably why he didn't get much of a chance but he was a quality new ball bowler.
@@stevendavies417 This is true England went through a phase were every bowler had to bowl 85mph plus or not wouldn't even be considered.
Catching was so good !!!
Just shows you how good Australia were at that time. That's a good England side giving a strong Pakistan team a thrashing. The Aussies then came and whalloped us. A shame Gough, Cork and Caddick didn't play together more often.
It seems that wasim didn't bowled at his best under waqar's captaincy🙄🙄🤔
It seems though
That tour was amazing. Great test . Following by TRI series
Can we just take a minute to appreciate waqar's impeccable accent?
2010, 2016 and 2018 Lord's test highlights.
The two W's(Wasim and Waqar) are a delight to watch. Best combo indeed..
What a bowling attack wasim Akram +waqar+shoaib+razzaq+azhar+saqlain+mushtaq
ENGLAND bowling Attack nahi dekha hai kesa maa chudai hai tum log ka
Still lost 😊
Superb catching and batting by Thorpe and Stewart. I really miss Darren Gough. He could destroy a tail like nobody else with his yorkers. On paper, the Pakistan team looked formidable - Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shaoib Akhtar, Abdul Razzaq. The bowlers should have run through England easily, and on a good day they would have done. They obviously weren't at their best. Still, a very good win by England.
I remember seeing this match on TV. Especially trescothick dismissal
Inspiration for Mr bean towards the end... @ 16 : 00
In 2001 Michael Vaughan was an extra fielder, and in 2005, he was the hero of English cricket.
No, he wasn't 😮. He'd played a vital, match turning, innings against West Indies in 2000 at Headingley; a match winning contribution in that albeit Cronje influenced win in South Africa. When he came into bat on his debut in South Africa in '99, England were 2 - 4 against Donald and Pollock and he scored 33 (probably worth 3 times as much). And he made a 100 in the next match after this one.
Love those days 😍
Those golden days of cricket...and real legends were playing in this era...real huge grounds no big bats...
Please upload 2nd Test Highlights as well
No spin from both sides...

Darren Gough..Jawagal shrinath..Warne..Akram ..What a magician bolwers had seen my childhood generation
This is some performance in both batting and bowling depts - Pakistan comprehensively outplayed
I have always been a big Caddick fan - who was the swing king IMHO.
I’m surprised that this was played in 2001 as we had an ashes series that summer
Excellent highlights
I think Graham Thorpe is the best test batsman for England in last 25 years. Solid batsman
The bowling action of Caddick looked awkward as hell, but by god it was effective. 🤘🤘
Andrew Caddick...❤❤❤
Great match
Good to see bowlers getting side on
Pakistan produced great bowlers especially Pacers but couldn't produce that kind of batters

8 degrees and rainy in late spring, that is ridiculous even for England's standards
England summed up 0:02
Show the squads too..
A great test for England. For a period of about two years their opening pair of Gough and Caddick finally clicked after all the disappointments and terrible player management in the 90s.
I note with interest that the relatively modest pairing of Gough-Caddick outbowled their objectively superior albeit ageing counterparts in Wasim-Waqar on this particular occasion.
The lesson being... you play the ball, never the reputation of the man delivering it!
Make video of this series 2nd test match as well because there is no such video
Younis Khan got a bad decision 2nd innings. The biggest inside edge...
Kindly upload Wasim VS Hussain.
Plz mention the date of the match..
Azharuddin mahmood is a good all rounder
Is this salim ellahi as a second opener!
What were the " Follow On " rules that time
This was the day Andrew caddick got the 7 out of the 16 wickets he managed to get in his career.

Darren Gough and Andrew Caddick were brilliant.

If that England XI had stayed fit, they would have given the Aussies a better contest during the Ashes that followed this series. But most of them got injured and the rest is history.

Is it classic match?

despite impressive test series that was azhar mahmood’s last . unfortunate for him,
I thought English team those days were terrible, but got completely wrong.. Great talent in all department.. Just from strategy perspective they lacked a lil bit causing not many success coming their way.
