Dregs of the City: Los Angeles is a short documentary that dives into the grossness that exists on the streets of LA both physically and psychologically. What was once deemed the City of Angels, a city that made dreams comes true, is now a place where dreams go to die.
As we move forward through the documentary, the audience will come to see the beauty in the destruction. This is a beauty that can only be seen by talking to the people that live in the dirt. The conversations being had are not something you'd usually see on CZcams.
From Skid Row, to Venice Beach, to Hollywood, we embark on a journey throughout the cement turmoil that is Los Angeles to find answers. In the midst of the chaos, we found fractioned answers, and we hope you take those fractions and fill the gaps with your imagination to make it whole.

You got what you voted for. Keep em out there please.
Everyone wish this was fake not pretending I hate these videos get online and no one should witness or see this
The cinematography, the soundtrack, the production. These are REALLY good.
So well shot, edited and produced...You guys HAVE to do more self-promotion. This and the SF Dregs should be viral worldwide. I am looking forward to Phoenix and beyond. I hope you explode on CZcams and all other platforms.
@@LLC_accept"pay the respects to humanity" huh so how you gonna do that? What's the plan?
How long have voyeurs put their cameras in the faces of the least powerful who have no say in things changing? These voyeurs should put the cameras on those that pull the levers in this society. Playing that trite rap music for such profound issues is so amateurish, lazy and disrespectful.

I don't wanna raise my kids or family in the USA given the current situation.

Proud of you for pushing through. That's not easy. And data analysis is a nice gig. Congrats

That is strange. LOL!
I'm still unsure who stole it
I’m originally from the south side of Chicago. It’s pretty rough and unforgiving in Chicago. But when I moved to LA I was legit in survival mode at times because how bad the streets were. I could feel it in the air. The tension, the agitated energy. It was on a massive scale.
For real. Downtown L.A. feels like danger. Like, Spidey Senses going 24/7 kind of danger. Felt eyes on me the whole time
Where were u at in LA?
@@private_ventures2592facts it’s like gotham city. i’m from baltimore but living in dtla was an experience like no other. so scary. i’ve seen real live demons in the flesh. the hair on my arms is standing at attention just thinking about it.
The moment BI_.M took all the elected positions in local & national government .. America went down in no time.
Stop bussing the homeless around North America ....We have enough here...Mayor keep your problems in other words and do something to clean this problem up ..I understand it creates jobs but eriously you can do better...what you gonna do when Robots take over?? New subscriber..nothing pretty about addiction and homelessness
I worked for Sal army for about 6 years. I had people who had Masters, businessmen who had a family beautiful house made 6 figs a year. A head oncologist nurse made 80k..and addiction, alcohol and or mental illness took them down.
Tragically the businessman, who had gotten a great job, left shelter, started drinking, lost job, and died one winter night in a tent by himself. His alcoholism killed him. I didn't know his back story until memorial service.
There's no easy way out. But you can get out. There are many who would rather stay on street and hustle and boost for money for their addiction than clean up and pay bills. But there are exceptions especially now, with rents rising and pay staying same.
Edit: plus the migrants/illegals are given precedence for shelters, housing, hotels doesn't help. At least the folks who want to get out of this lifestyle
This is a masterclass in Balance. The incredible soundtrack and clean film quality subconsciously lifts the harsh yet real subject manner giving the viewer an unparalleled snapshot into lives and voices sadly left in the shadows. Sending love and hope to those in need in the city. Thank you for this art
It's awesome that youtube dang near gave up on copyright striking folks for music. Without that ability.. the songs would either need to be edited out or no monetization for the video used.
"Masterclass". Been seeing a lot of people saying that lately. Makes me want to say it to feel relevant.
Great video! Keeping it real, and not promoting an agenda aside from creating awareness. No babbling voiceovers, just content. And that soundtrack? Best ever!
Thank you! What a great compliment. Glad you enjoyed the soundtrack too!
I agree! Great video, and the music 🎵🎶.. Perfect sound of FREEDOM!
@@xziztortheeternal6471that type of music promotes this life style
What a great documentary, beautifully presented and most importantly all about the people, no judgement, no personal views, pure reporting - how journalism should be.
Crazy good production. Not often do I watch anything longer than 10 minutes on youtube without skipping, I watched this one the whole way through.
Wow every song just fit every second of this video.. Props to who ever was apart of that.. It made the whole video.
Thank you so so much that means a lot to us! And glad you enjoyed
Agreed!!
Un-freaking-believable short doc! You brought existence to those left behind while also showing the negatives and side effects of either bad choices or born into situations! I will continue to watch this channel grow for years to come!
You guys truly capture a place and time. These videos will be come the new 'NYC in the 70s' in a few decades. A visual study of how messed up the 2020s were.
Thank you! The cities around the country are suffering so much right now from drug addiction and so much more. Strange times

I just found your channel today and immediately watched both your documentaries and subbed. These are the best documentaries I’ve seen anyone do. The cinematography, music, just letting people talk and be themselves without putting yourself in every shot. Keep putting these out and your going to be huge.
How long have you been doing this? The production/soundtrack quality of your vids is better than channels with millions of subscribers and you only have under 2K. I subbed to you just for this vid alone and hope you blow up on here.
This is great journalism and seriously well made
As I turn out the lights and climb into bed in my apartment; your video plays. Not even 5 years ago I was in the same spot. I see a few familiar faces, especially in Venice.
Glad you got out. Don't go back.
Can't believe that there is only 2k subs, so beautifully shot and edited. I can't wait to see how far you guys go!
Yeah, it's definitely early days for the channel but the quality of the vids is phenomenal
Thank you! Hopefully more subs to come. We've got a lot more in store these next few months
You deserve an award for this. Amazing work
this is fye, from someone who’s raised in la and have grown up in there. this felt real.
you really have no idea what you’ll be in for going to skid row. I’ve seen people naked people with weapons, sex, literally everything but in plain view.
Glad they made it out with all their nice film equipment.
loved watching!
👀👀👀 I was thinking the same thing about that expensive film equipment . Skid row is no joke .
Ur music selection is top notch ❤
The music glamorizes this lifestyle in a way I cannot describe or articulate. What a depressing sight, watching videos of LA from the 1950s and 1960s breaks my heart. What have they done to my state?
The music glamorizes being homeless? Are you nuts?

Some of the best work I’ve seen since vice in the beginning. Capturing the raw n uncut like vice use to. Keep going, y’all got something.
You see a lot of "homeless" content on CZcams and get desensitized to a certain degree to it. This however, definitely captured the reality of it straight to the point, it was really well shot. Appreciate it!! 💪💪
A life lived with no structure, rules and discipline, is a life with a false sense of freedom.
Self pity and lack of accountability and decisions is a lethal combo... NOBODY is exempt...👎🏻
This is one of the best Skid Row documentary videos I've ever seen you see the different side of people when you just hang out with them and I feel like that's what you guys did
The Production is the best I’ve seen when it comes to watching these interviews. This is Great!
I grew up there, lived in Cali for 25 years. When I go and visit my family the whole place has become a corrupted hell hole.
Well put together guys - the shit zoom in was something you don't see in a lot of these videos, but it definitely is part of the street scene in LA, NY and SF - every where.
whew philly too ngl there's always shit on a sidewalk somewhere specially in Kensington
Such a great documentary, well made and put together. Good job. Got yourself a sub and i hope many more to come.
Well done. Great, shots, music and production. The interviews were a up close and personal perspective a lot haven’t seen. You guys are humanizing these individuals, which is informative and educational. Great work.

This video all around top tier from the content to the quality and the way it was put together
this is one of the best interviews I've seen in a long time. Really refreshing to see people freely admitting they are homeless by choice and that they enjoy using drugs.
More people need to see this.

Best videos I've seen on these gritty topics. You guys nailed it. Love the soundtrack. I hope you make more videos like this. Kensington?

Wow this truly is one of the most tasteful documentary's ive seen on this subject. Stellar Job
That guy on the piano and then the violin is some intense music. It's delicate and rough.
Nice work here. I think it is so terrible how this society can turn away from these people. Fact is some people are Born broken or Made that way, Either way we have to have compassion and not just think we can call them all 'lazy' because the truth is it's a whole lot more complicated than that most of the time.
so sick and tired of people always looking for the government to fix their problems.. nobody owes anyone anything! You want roof over your head then work for it bitch!
I feel compassion, but I know that we can't change anyone's perspective.
They mostly chose their lifestyles
That is a small percentage you speak of. Majority of them lookin for handouts and playing the part.
Hmm you seem to be a psychic, Why not use your power for good then?@@Manuelabor1978
Great video brother… you should do more videos about the harsh realities of certain topics. Little short documentaries just like this 😊
That's the plan! For the Dregs series we will be going all over the country, and on top of that we will also be doing other short docs on other subjects here soon

Come to Kensington, in Philadelphia,PA we have similar problems here. Fentanyl has taken over the streets of North Philly and it’s cut with Tranq, so it’s a part of the city full of “Zombies” great video great music and editing. I was entertained the entire time. Thank yoy
Baltimore is exactly the same. Idk why people only mention Kensington 😂 bmore is literally the heroin capital except its no longer heroin
This was a wild one. Great work.
I enjoyed the production value, it was nicely done. I think it's important to be documenting downtown LA these days, Hollywood as well. Telling that story for the world to see.
It's infuriating to see disabled marines forgotten and left on the streets along with everyone else suffering from illnesses of the mind! Dear God something needs to be done for these people to get them some help
the zero compassion or empathy we have all been through hard times and we are not all on drugs
Enjoyed this well done!!
Wow man. Another great video. Thanks guys. Keep ‘em coming.
Downtown used to be so beautiful. The garment district was bustling, banks and hedge funds filled the skyscrapers. The streets were clean and filled with shoppers. This is absolute rock bottom
A fantastic short but powerful and searing, gritty look at those who are down and out. I always say, too, that homelessness and addiction can happen to ANYONE. 2:47 .
It won’t if you don’t do drugs , it’s that simple

Fantastic work!
The saddest part, to me, is that some of these people seem happier than many middle and upper class people will ever feel in their entire lives...
Does that mean living like this is not as bad as we think, or does it mean that 'normal' life is worse than we realise?
They’re happy because they’re high lol. Also, they have no bills.
Man gtfo, being addicted to heroin, meth, crack etc, is pure hell, literally i would not wish that on anyone, there 100% not happier then average ppl trust me, addiction and homelessness is pure he'll, many use bc they also have mental illnesses and that also is not fun either
Honestly alot of these people look after each other....... share what they have....... and yes no bills or responsibilities help.. 😂
@@WillThomas-hs3oj Man gtfo I never said any of that isn't true. That's exactly why I posed my question... All of that pain, and SOME OF THEM still seem happier than many middle and upper class people, whom I have personally met, have felt in the whole time I've known them (which is my entire life for some of them).....
So, does the sense of community, and the relationships they get to experience, and the freedom they have, worth the pain in their lives?
Or is the lack of apparent happiness worth the sacrifices that must be made to live a, quote unquote, "better life"?
