(empathetic giggle) we represent what we do, ihave a best friend who would disregard anything by anybody really good looking - personally i don't give a shit what people look like and over the past 16 years he's come to understand that hating a good looking person is retarded, we do not choose our physical makeup and is not anything to hate anybody at all - those who make it 'despite adversity and legality regardless of what they look like are fkn heroes to me.

Yeah I've been to the Phoenix while attending the Earthship Academy. It's an impressive building. It meets and exceeds all the hype. Even the other properties I toured were really nice. As far as the future is concerned. Those who were fortunate enough to buy/build an Earthship regardless of the model. Is ahead of the game.

Yay! Totally awesome. And having an entire greenhouse layer on the outside of the house? So clever!
Now I don't feel so bad about thinking about gardening and buildings for like two whole weeks. I had reacquainted myself with Jacque Fresco and the Venus Project, and have been reading up on crop rotation and dome structures to start working on my own self contained food garden. The idea was to use it to make mistakes on a small scale, and eventually build a bigger living house using what I learned from the food greenhouse. Also I've been reading about Fresnel lenses and tilapia.

Thanks for saying that...People need to learn basic videography before flashing a camera around and calling it a production...You have to think in terms of what the camera is seeing not what your mind is seeing...It is very annoying for someone to be trying to show you something and then flash the camera by it in 1/4 second before you can focus on it...

You've also made it clear that we don't really have a much choice but to follow our he-arts and our passion if we're to master the future without the future becoming our masters. Thank you once again for the inspiration and guidance.

The people who make money on the legacy models (i.e. selling fossil fuels to a captive audience) aren't going to be very happy. I have a feeling there's going to be a concerted effort against _"off grid"_ living. And good luck, as it's probably easier to overcome technical challenges than those impediments imposed by people with money and power.

Roy LeBlanc I'm aware. Michigan here. Nestle's best friend. Point is, there are states with locales very open to this, as Mike Reynolds discusses. I'm not saying people will move, I'm saying 'if' they truly wanted this, they'll have to leave to get it. And if they leave, dipshits in charge will be forced to rethink. People WILL have to start making choices, watch. The squeeze is on and it's only going to get worse, so ideas like this will become a Haven. If our masters don't like it, well then, they might as well push the button and get it over with, cause we're going to have no choice.

Heirloom plants allow you to save your seeds and berries allow you to eat. Isn't that great? I hate to say it, but if I had not gotten sick I would have never even thought of it. I have one of the original books Mike and Victoria published about building that structure, the things they learned and invented, and all the people who made it possible. Doing your Duty , IMHO , means doing that which is clearly and reasonably been discussed and thought out by a consortium of minds . Following your Passion , therefore , only considers the music from within that gives you the greatest joy "feeling" day in day out with no input from others . Thank you for asking the question . It has helped me to resolve something very clearly and important to my life . Blessings and Peace in 2016 !

I mean that Human Beings which we ALL are , sometimes made a choice to do something and the end result was homelessness. I have my hand raised . BTDT . What about organisations like Salvation Army and John Howard Society and others , who are involved in providing shelters from the storms of life , why not find land ...and take those who are otherwise unemployable for whatever reason , and give them a taste for life by involving them in building their own Self Sustaining Homes / Earthships , and give them a sense of pride and ownership and encourage them again as to their worth and dignity and value as fellow Human Beings ? That is my question. Why Not ?

These are interesting. However, they're not the end all be all fix. They're expensive & need a lot of manual handling of the systems. Form maintenance of the electric systems to the water solutions. Also, they tend to be not as effective as others solutions for more temperate & muggy climates. Labor is a major cost to these builds. As well as the huge costs for solar.
I spent several days in one up in Taos. They're a wonder of a system that proves itself in certain areas. In the desert where there is a lot of sun as well as a dry climate. The air tubes work well. But there is little proof that they will work in the south where summers are brutal & AC is almost a necessity. Air tubes will not cut it there. While one could up the anti & costs to generate much more power to handle this situation, it's not following the solutions that are prescribed by those touting this ends our dependencies on the grid.
There are less costly alternatives that provide us with solutions to the world. Dome homes offer a much better solution to these issues. While they're not as supposedly green, they will outlast an Earthship & provide a much better solution to the problem.
Still these buildings are intriguing. But as with all these, one should be aware that there are caveats to the Utopian views of some.

Gavin Walsh So i'm to dig dozens of feet underground, be able to calculate the needed information of tube sizes as well as making sure that the refrigerant doesn't leek out.
I happen to live in an area that has a huge cooling load. We have many more month of heat than the need for heating the home. I don't believe that a novice could develop a system to do this.

+1timby I think we're talking two different systems my geothermal cooling is a tube run underground in a loop where on one end a fan pulls air in high on the wall and on the other end a out pipe where a fan pull cold air in coolant wouldn't be necessary for a system like this

Your a good bloke but running chickens for food (I don't say don't have them) isn't what humans should be doing with our feathered friends. You'd better not tell me about any other critters you sample. But its a very big step in the right direction...

I do not understand why there are people hating something like that. Man can have a different taste but hate immediately?

Poor quality camera work and audio by someone explaining Earthships who doesn’t really know that much about them. (And calls the mountain range in Taos the “New Mexico Mountains.”

The thing that bothers me, is there are birds POOPING all over, and no way yo find it and clean it up....
Anyone who ever kept a pet bird, just think of how much poop (per week) they generate...Now scatter that all over your house, for the next ten years (or more) that the bird lives...
Whatever WOULD have been at the bottom of a bird cage, is all over the plants and house. Gross.....

I think he is an awful camera guy. He's more into himself than showing the house. If he wanted to be on camera so bad he should have had someone else do the video
