  • Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion The Rifles (3 RIFLES) are training alongside their US colleagues in South America, while also testing the British Army's latest protective kit, Virtus. The system is designed to combat some of the problems experienced with the older kit worn in Iraq and Afghanistan. Virtus is lighter, slimmer and more flexible than its predecessor, designed to give the future soldier more comfort, mobility and endurance.

    Its funny eh, ive trained with brits germans french and both american army and marines when i was with the Canadian forces and when we would train together its like as if our flags never existed and we were just a group of friends training together. For all the flack each country gives each others militaries you see stuff like this where we cross train together and we work flawlessly together. Makes me proud to have served beside any and all of the above mentioned countries

    Never had a problem with osprey or kestrel or the MK7 helmet. Clearly though the big wigs see it differently. As that full screw said, he likes his kit and change isn't always good. If it ain't broke, don't fix it comes to mind, along with the huge waste of money they spend on upgrading kit. They new armor prior to this had been barely in use in the field army. Why didn't they just wait and do this stuff instead? Crazy.

    • @PaddyInf
      @PaddyInf Před 5 lety +2

      If worn correctly most modern body armour types are designed to cover the chest with plates. The abdomen is rarely covered. Chest and back plates are only about 25x30cm, so covering heart and lungs is the priority.

    an instant downside to the virtus armour compared to the Osprey, is the virtus's tighter armour configuration will emit more force into the body over the plates that took most of the force of the bullet. the virtus as protection only seems to stop bullets and shrapnel, and not the force, but it gives a much larger area of protection

      we're turning into an eastern military which are American copies

    • @sawyerlawrence5033
      @sawyerlawrence5033 Před 8 lety +1

      Here in the US we have a very large civilian population that buys military type gear, most of the original designs come from the American civilian companies first. Ops core helmets in the hi cut style weren't made for the military at first, they were so civilians could wear hearing protection while they wore a helmet. Plate carriers are another civilian invention, the army issues them, but would rather troops wear the IOTV. Even things most people take for granted like HSGI TACO pouches or BFG ten speed mag pouches were made for American three gun contests where a closed top mag pouch puts you at a disadvantage. The battle belt used to be something armies thought was replaced by MOLLE chest rigs have seen a resurgence because of American Preppers and tactical shooters who set up layered gear loadouts. There is plenty of origionality left, there just isn't the market for it in other places. Even the Virtus's own little cool thing, that mag pouches went flat when empty turned out to be a copy of Maxpedition gear pouches.

The new mk4 osprey just got issued in 2010 so why didn't they just wait to issue this stuff instead. And what will happen to osprey? • @sawyerlawrence5033
      @sawyerlawrence5033 Před 8 lety

      +Harry B 2010 was ages ago in the development cycle. So much stuff has changed in the few years, SiB and SiAL armor are lighter, and development of plate carriers that allow much better loading of weight and gear, plus having worn both an IOTV and an Osprey Mk4 I could see how much needed to change. The Osprey's lack of a release is a huge oversight that had to be corrected. The added mobility of a plate carrier alone is worth it though.

    • @AlecMcNab96
      @AlecMcNab96 Před 8 lety

      again, Virtus was in development for three years, ie late 2012/early 2013. If the MK4 osprey was issued in 2010 then they couldn't wait and issue this kit instead because they hadn't started development for it yet.
