I'd argue it is blackened death metal 😎

      No, it's blackened death metal.

Their main game is definitely blackened death!
Such a great band - live not least! So I do understand if a live take was suggested. That said, the music only came through in half here, and for musical reaction/analysis' sake, I'm glad you checked out the studio version as well.
Now, I didn't give this one my vote for the theme, simply because I considered there was many suggestions displaying a more exciting take on BLACK METAL. But I'm still happy to get this great analysis from you. Also glad you liked it - even if it wasn't as much of a (positive) surprise to you as the theme possibly is aiming for 😊

behemoth started as a black metal band but is now more of a blackened death metal band, also the satanist is a fantastic album if you haven't heard it. I recommend blow your trumpets gabriel if you liked this

I second this hard, and also recommend O Father O Satan O Sun from the same album.

I'd agree this is blackened death. And probably why I also enjoy Behemoth a lot more than traditional black metal. I appreciate their sense of melodrama in their songwriting. And huh, I've never thought of black metal as having strong sense of harmony, that was a cool perspective.

For a better youtube live experience of Behemoth, try the Christians to the Lions video from XXX Years Ov Blasphemy. It's a high quality produced theatrical live show, without audience.

Windir and Dissection and Ulver have small BM discographies that are worth checking out in their entirety

Yup, definetly Blackened Death Metal. Most songs lean more towards Death, some have more blackish elemenets. Behemoth started out as a more traditional BM band (and not particularly big one) but at some point switched gears to this more Death metallic style, found a formula that works big time then became one of the biggest names of Blackened Death Metal bands.

Pleaseee react to Gorgoroth-gorgoroth dude. It’s the best black metal song I know and I think you’ll really appreciate the composition

Grima has some really cool atmospheric black metal which they blend with elements of russian folk music. I'd recommend checking out Siberian Sorrow by them.

Grima is soooo good! And Ultar, another project with some of the same members

Starting with Satanica (99) they are basically DM with few BM hints here and there once in a long while. During their BM stage, I can't say they were exceptional or influential. Can't call them bad either: Sventevith and Grom are okay. From their new "DM in costumes" style, I can appreciate only their Zos Kia Cultus (2002) - probably for its aggressive "raging forward" aesthetics.

Grom is a masterpiece, Sventevith is just average but still enjoyable.
