Yes, it's like those little crates they keep pigs in where they don't even have room to turn around. They do need to be kept in large pens together at night, and out in the fields grazing during the day. Unless, like you said, if sick or for ewes who are lambing and bonding with their newborn lambs
Hi, just to let you know “lamhokstelsel” is a afrikaans word wich means all these sheep are pregnant ready to deliver their babies. These crates provide a safe delivery space for the sheep and their babies ☺️
it is to monitor an ewe that is lambing and ensure that lambs are suckling, it also easy to spot ewes that are not producing milk. they do not stay there for ever its just for lambing then they will be free to graze in the field

They are only in the pens for lambing....and will go out to pasture afterward. This is standard practice to ensure the lambs are born healthy, the mother accepts them and that any lambing problems can be spotted and dealt with immediately. Sheep are never single penned in South Africa as a rule. Firstly it is hugely uneconomic to do so....secondly it is a pain in the ass to feed animals individually. This is much more for the benefit of the sheep than to the benefit of the farmer...They will generally just be in those pens for a brief period. Hope this helps you understand that no cruelty is involved here.

Not really good, they are in prison. The best way is out natural pastures, and go inside to sleep. Plus add some nutrient food.
