Self-Charging Electric Car | 1000 Miles of Extra Solar Range per Month

  • Representing Self-Charging Solar Powered Electric Car by Lightyear Company, called The Lightyear One.
The roof and hood of the car consists of five square meters of integrated solar cells within safety glass.
The solar cells provide 20% more energy than traditional ones and unlike them, these cells function independently, which means even if a part of the roof or hood is in shadow, the other cells continue to efficiently collect solar energy.
They can charge the electric car at a rate of 7 miles per hour and provide 31-43 miles daily range.
This could result in producing up to 12,000 miles worth of energy per year or 1000 miles per month.

There are cars that costs millions of dollars and can't do half of what this car can do. I say it's dirt cheap considering it's literally the car of the future that could save our planet. And sell our houses if we should to support this company from getting swallowed up by big oil companies terrified by its innovation.

If you truly want to be a 'Game Changer' then you'll have to make the car affordable to the masses. You know, the way Henry Ford did. Until you can put one of these into the garage of the 'Average' working man you really haven't changed anything.

This is cheap. Sports cars out there in the range of hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars can't do half of what this car can do. Also it's their first car, it's meant to gather them capital. People should support them as best as we could or they'll go under and disappear within a year.

Economics of scale do not apply to EV yet. The battery technology is too new and prices are too high. As new battery technology is developed, the prices will fall. Samsung has patented a Graphene ball battery and will soon come to market. It can charge in 15~20 minutes from zero. Cost will be VERY high. Development costs I would guess are near or exceed billions US Dollar. No other company has announced a Graphene battery which will be a game changer. However, it is unknown if Samsung will have enough capacity to build batteries for cars and power stations in addition to the phones they make.

Even if it doesn't have the best Off The Line acceleration or if running accessories like lights, heat or AC run the batteries down prematurely, just having the capability of putting some energy back into the car while it's sitting on the parking lot is a Sci-Fi sort of accessory. And you can still plug it in to charge it if you need to.

A small German company is currently designing a compact car with partial solar charging. They are using several components of the BMW i3 and aiming at prices of under 30 k $. And they are more modest (and probably honest) about the extra mileage to be gained by solar.
They claim it might theoretically bring around 30 kms on an ideal day (sunny and cloudless day in mid summer with the car parked in the baking sun) - so nobody can sensibly expect more than, say, 2500 km in a normal year.
Which is perfectly fine and compensates the loss of charge EV batteries have over time. At least, if you park the car outside, you can be sure you won't have a dead battery after a few weeks of not driving.

I would prefer a normal electric like Nissan leaf instead of this extraordinary 170k invention. It will get success maybe after 15 years when the price reduce but I think after 15 years we will get battery in very cheap price with 15 mins charging like sodium ion batteries.or some new invention in the field of batteries.

The number of EVs on the road is decreasing in relative numbers. The total number of cars increases by 2% yearly. That means that percentvise we have fewer EVs every year. However as pointed out, EV production is increasing rapidly, so in 20 years, at current growth, they should be on par and be able to gain market share from combustion cars, but current EV production is 0.0005 of what is needed.

I have little technical knowledge regarding solar, but I have friends who work in the solar industry (big solar plants in California). These experts are skeptical that such a vehicle could produce the results being claimed. Until an actual car is built, tested and documented ... skepticism seems appropriate.

For all those with bad backs, bad knees, when will someone introduce a small pickup? So we’re not sitting on the ground and having to climb out with excruciating pains to exit the electric vehicle.
