Why did you stop using 'hearts'? I think it was a convenient way for a viewer to easily spot which song(s) you love ;)
It was inspired by the movie, Dick Tracey. It wasn’t the soundtrack for the movie.
Someone likes some Hanky Panky…. Lollololol
Madonna took her character's 3 songs from the film, (Sooner or Later, More, What Can You Lose) and created a whole album from her character's perspective. Really clever.
i used to think Vogue didn’t fit in with the rest of the album since it’s obviously not jazz, but the rap verse about 30s-40s Hollywood stars does fit with the Dick Tracy era
And her songs - particularly Back in Business and Something to Remember - are every bit as good as Sondheim 's.
@@AlexeBriand2002 it's not jazz, it's classic
She didn't end it with just a statement. She ended it with one of the greatest dance tracks off all time.
Madonna's performance of " Sooner or Later" at the Oscars is simply iconic. The best performance ever at the Oscars. You should react to it as she elevates the song into a complete show per se. That song won an Oscar that night.
Hec yeah! That performance is ICONIC! The look, the attitude, the voice, everything was on point. Even at the end when her diamond earring falls on her neck she throws it to the orchestra with full on attitude!
You should check out her Oscars performance of Sooner or Later. It was truly epic and one of her best live performances.
My favourite performance of hers ever
it's way too iconic to skip
In fact, best performance ever at the Oscars
This is a must see performance. Truly one of best performances and certainly one of the best if the best live vocal performance. She owned that Oscars show and night, along with her little known date for the night, so guy called Michael Jackson?!?...not not me either! Haha 😂 It's an overused phrase these days but her whole performance from the entrance to the exit from the stage was ICONIC! 🏅🏅💪💪🥰🥰 Much love and thanks for this deep dive, you are one of the only reviewers that get her actual musical talent as a song writer and producer. Most people and critics get distracted by the images/videos and the controversy and miss the real moments of genius and sometimes tongue in cheek humour, i.e. Hanky Panky, I'm going bananas, cry baby. It was just an album made to have some fun and also she loves big band music from listening to what her Father was playing around the house. It's not a serious album. But then beautiful moments like Something to remember about the death of her teenage dance teacher who snuck her into gay clubs and she found her spiritual home! Haha 😂. Also what can you loose with Mandy Patinkin, just beautiful and heart breaking. Then the fun of convincing Warren Beatty to record a duet. Light hearted fun bit of a vanity project. I don't count it as a real M album proper. Best of love and thanks again for actually appreciating that she is a talented musician. ❤️💯👍👍👏👏🙌🙌✌️✌️@OTDEMusic
Madonna’s character in Dick Tracy was Breathless Mahoney. I’m Breathless was her building her character in song. She always used all available media to her advantage. She’s so creative.
One of the most forgotten albums from the Queen but sure one of the best ones, so underrated
I was shocked at how good her and Sinead’s Jazz. Albums were
The song Sooner or Later won the Oscar that year for Best Original Song.
Vogue is one of her biggest songs of all time. Probably one of the most recognisable songs. A huge Anthem for the LGBTQ community. The dance form Vogueing was created by the black lgbtq community at the the legendary balls.
Vogue transcends LGBTQIAXYZ drama. Because even straight boys can dig Vogue. But yes, it is an anthem, which was not known as a gay thing for cultures who never heard of The Ball or Voguing culture.
@@eduardochavacano Drama?
@@Vertigotheatre1 she was accused of ripping off gay culture, what they missed is that she was actually shining a light on it. Hence having the originals in the video and on her tour
Madonna was introduced to Vogueing when her long time friend Debi Mazar that she met in 82 at the Danceteria night club told her about it and took her to the Sound Factory night club where she met with Jose Gutierrez and Luis Camacho of the House of Xtravaganza. She was so impressed with their dancing that she asked them to audition for her upcoming Blond Ambition Tour and they appear in her Vogue music video, Blond Ambition Tour and Truth or Dare documentary which was about the tour.
@@eduardochavacano It didn't transcend before 1990.
Breathless is a nightclub singer so some of these songs are her performing and others are Breathless singing from her own experiences.
This album is her best vocal performance. I miss her deeper pre Evita vocals.
That’s Mandy Patinkin on What Can You Lose FYI
Yes I miss that voice too. I’m not being funny but evita took all her emotion out of her voice. I miss deep range Madonna
Broadway fact... Mandy played Che in the original London Broadway version of Evita. He had a completely different storyline in that version then what most Americans know.
@@mykleb1616 I was shocked when I was watching Homeland and realised it was him!
I completely agree. 💯
Yep, the Evita vocal sessions ruined her voice. Singing in a 'technical' way is not soulful. From that movie and on her music has never had the depth to touch my soul again :(
Initially- there wasn’t really a game plan by Warner Brothers to do an entire album other than the basic soundtrack to the film. “Vogue” changed all that. “Vogue” was written as a B-side for “Keep It Together”. Thankfully- WB knew it was a monster, and wouldn’t release it until they could couple it with an album. “I’m Breathless”- really a concept Madonna album with three songs from Dick Tracy- was born. The cheekiness of this album was delightful. And- Madonna vocally was in top form.
Omg Erotica is next !!! ❤️ Can't wait ! Great analysis and review.
He will definitely like all the Hanky Panky on Erotica…. 🤣🤣
I’m waiting impatiently!!
Not a lot of people consider this an album but I do this is a masterpiece album
Thought he would do Erotica after Like a Prayer (and eventually miss Vogue and Hanky Panky). But makes sense he's doing the whole album since it's called a deep dive.
Same! I wonder about Something to Remember, guess we'll see (pun intended)
And Evita soundtrack!?
Missing the two singles from im breathless
Never
I've never understood why IB is constantly ignored as an album.. most of it is not from Dick Tracy.
I’m Breathless Peaked at no.2 on the billboard chart selling 7 million albums worldwide.
Madonna’s character Breathless Mahoney, in Dick Tracy, was one of the most perfect characters she could ever play. I’ve always said, the growth from her first album to this, deserved a Grammy. She has always been undervalued as an artist who has literally sung every genre of music and done it expertly.
she has NOT song every genre of music.. who the hell are you kiding? I love Madge - she was basically the soundtrack of my coming out at my first gay bar. But she's never been a true *musician* with the musical chops of some alter artists. What was her forte' was her brilliance as a PERFORMER. Some acts are both musician AND performer. I love her for waht she did, but will willingly acknowledge she did get a bit superseded later on, as would be reasonable after 30 years or so
This is in my top 5 Madonna albums, at number 5. Like a Prayer at 4. This album is on regular rotation for me. I love singing along in the shower.
its not a studio album though. But yes, it one very brave and creative attempt of Madonna. She clearly wasnt interested in churning billboard no. 1 hits as much as she is interested in keeping her originality and artistic integrity. This album really grew old wonderfully. Not sure where I’ll rank it on my own top 10 albums. Like A Prayer is at no. 1 and Ray of Light at 2 and American Life at 3. But I can put all albums at no.1
@@eduardochavacano nice! My number 1 is American Life, 2 is Madame X and 3 is Ray of Light.
I think her vocals were the best on her entire career. Low, middle and high register. Incredible performance on Oscar's night when she sang the winner song. The prime of Madonna.
Probably the best Madonna reactor out there. Can't wait for more!
Don’t forget about Empress - her Madonna journey is 🔥
Not at all. He makes more fun of the music than anything. He shouldn’t skim through the songs either. He’s truly missing out on Madonna’s great masterpieces. Especially, since these were written and composed by the great Stephen Sondheim.
@@davidbaros9526 chill
@@noproblemnostress963 I’m chill, dude. We all have our own opinions. You however, might want to rethink your hasty critique.
@@davidbaros9526 he’s listening to the entire songs - he has to edit parts out due to copyright.
The Movie is called Dick Tracy. At that Time Madonna was in a Relationship with Warren Beatty which is the Main Character in the Movie.
When a Madonna fan does a review non of the Madonna fans care to listen.
Please react to her performances of ''Express Yourself'' at the 1989 VMA, ''Vogue'' at 1990 VMA, ''Like a Virgin'' on Blonde Ambition Tour and the video of Justify My Love that preceded the Erotica Era in 1992
Let's not forget Sooner or Later Oscar's and Rescue Me!!
You must react Madonna’s live performance of sooner or later at the 1991 oscars. Michael Jackson was her date that night. The two most successful artists of the 80’s and 90’s and the biggest stars in the world at that time. Easily Madonna’s best live performance and vocals
One of my favorite Madonna album, so creative, so cohesive, I even love the transition "Now I'm following you pt.2" to bring the listeners from the world of 30s music to the 90's. The "Vogue" just hit you like a truck.
This was really fun watching you discover this.
He's A Man is one of my favorite Madonna songs. Still as good today as when it came out
The soundtrack I'm Breathless is for the motion picture Dick Tracy. Even though the movie was deemed a disappointment it did gross $100 million dollars back in 1990. The last song may feel out of place is because it was not intended to ever be released. Vogue was actually going to be the B side single for Like A Prayer however, her business associates convinced her the song was too good to not be released. Thankfully she listened to her business associates and released the song as a single and put it as the last track for the soundtrack to Dick Tracy. The song went to become her 8th number one record ( a record at the time), her best selling single, and introduced voguing to the mainstream along with a groundbreaking music video. If you do anything else please watch the music video for Vogue. It captures everything that is Madonna and know you will not be disappointed.
Disney did lose money, but it did do pretty well and I think they probably made their money back in the long-term. It was Disney's biggest opening weekend at the time, got decent reviews, and was nominated for a few Oscars (and won for Best Song). So I would say it did moderately well.
@@FindingMadonna I agree it did make money and was not a flop. It just did not meet Disney Studio expectations. You are also correct the movie did receive oscar nominations (seven to be exact) and won three (makeup, production design and original song). It was a shame Al Pacino was the only actor recognized for a performance while Madonna was ignored despite winding up being titular character of the film as Breathless Mohonay (sultry night club singer).
@@thomasgreen2525 Yeah Al was definitely chewing scenery, that's why. Madonna's good but not the kind of thing they usually nominate. She's underrated in it though.
Consider watching both the official Vogue video AND the VMA performance-both are worthy of watching!
hi there just to point out. vogue was actually supposed to be the b side to keep it together, not like a prayer. it was warner bros executives who heard it and knew it was gonna be a huge hit and insisted that it be a single on its own.
Thinking that you’re going to experience for the first time the best Madonna eras (90s from early 2000s) makes me sooo jealous! Great reaction, bravo 🙌🏻
80s is one her best eras too.
@@sexysadie2901 her first three albums aged terribly
I love this Soundtrack...
I think Madonna was on point.
I highly recommend watching Dick Tracy. You pretty much guessed the plot! But it's a lot of fun and Madonna's pretty good in it. I love this album - most of the songs aren't actually in the movie, just inspired by the characters, which is probably why you picked up on the different "voices." The songs you thought sounded like musical theater were indeed written Stephen Sondheim, a very famous Broadway composer. "Vogue" was absolutely tacked on, but I think it works. Don't sleep on "Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me" (from her greatest hits album) before moving on to her next studio album. They're very much transitional songs between Like a Prayer/I'm Breathless and Erotica.
Yes yes yes, agreed 1000%. The Immaculate Collection is considered on of the greatest collection hits from an artist. And.. she was the first artist to add new material with Justify My Love and Rescue Me on a collection album. Now its the norm. Such a maverick for her time.
@@carlosabrigojr3482 I never realized she was the first, but you're probably right. Everyone started doing it after that.
Glad to see you not leaving out this album 💗 💫
he’s most likely going to listen to the Evita soundtrack as well
Excellent reaction! A journey back in time, when soundtracks were thought, written and recorded exclusively for movies. Madonna did a great job on screen and in the studio 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. By the way, you look very handsome 😍😍😍 and it's nice to see you.
I think it’s a really fantastic record I think it’s always under looked. Madonna is a brilliant artist she will never get the respect that she deserves! All the institutions Grammys etc. ignore her always which is fine the Grammys is a joke😂
very happy that u react to this one! A lot leave it out! thank u, luv ur reaction! x
XOXOXO - this was one of the first Madonna albums that I owned, the movie Dick Tracy... oh my... I've recently had to rewatch this movie and the album has been on repeat in my feeds. You've hit the mark spot on so much for not having even researched or related the movie to the music!! Loving this playlist!! Thank you!!!
Thank you for posting. The wait was long but u kept ur promise and continued
You look great dude and thanks for reacting this album. 👍🤗
Loving your Madonna reactions, her sound completely changes and evolves with each album she releases. Keep them coming.
One of my favorite Madonna albums!
So creative fun and experimental.
She’s the Queen of everything!
I liked her original voice before she had training. This album is a great example of that. When she did Evita in 95 everything changed.
Ray of Light is vocally one of her best albums
Loved your reaction!
Honestamente, eu acho que "I'M BREATHLESS" é um dos melhores trabalhos da Madonna.
Também acho
I think Vogue is perfectly placed in this album after the build-up and style transition from Now Im Following You pt1-2. Like he said, its an exit from the previous "world" to enter the Vogue world. Its interesting, listening now, that Now Im Following You pt2 has a somber, moaning segment that seems like a prequel to Justify My Love and Erotica. One of Madonna's most interesting artistic eras.
29:05---Vogue. One of the most iconic songs in my GLBTQ+ community. It is the "I Willl Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, of the 90's to date.
Long live the Queen, Madonna! 🇲🇽🇺🇲🏳️🌈
Nice reaction, a whole new musical experience for me, thank you🙏
Only 5 or 6 songs belong to the DickTracy Soundtrack, the other 6 songs were inspired by the theme of the movie. Amazing album. Amazing reaction!
The Dick Tracy Soundtrack does not include any Madonna recording???? That is what i read on the cover of the casette tape.
@@eduardochavacano I don't know, Is there an official Dick Tracy Soundtrack?
So glad you finally made it to this album, as it’s a nice bookend to her 80’s albums. Now on to Erotica, which literally sounds like nothing you’ve heard from her yet, and starts the next phase of her career. Get ready for Mistress Dita…
I loved your reaction to I´m Breathless!!! Please, make a reaction video to Blond Ambition Tour and you will understand why Madonna is the queen. She made the path for the all popstars we know today. The Blond Ambition tour changed the way to make concerts. Thank for the video ❤❤❤❤
This is one of my favorite album of hers! It’s probably the one I listen to the most! Like others have said you gotta watch her perform sooner or later at the oscars! Amazing! And before you do erotica you have to listen to the two new songs on her immaculate collection album. Justify my love and my number 1 favorite song of Madonna Rescue Me. You got yourself a new subscriber!
You are so Right On. She created musical art for fans like me. I saw Virgin tour..who's that girl tour, blonde ambition and reinvention tours.. she is the OG. Thanks for reviewing this album. We lived it as you heard it.
Your face when she says “ My bottom hurts just thinking about it” was too cute!!
First time on your channel and think it’s so great you’re doing this deep dive into her entire catalogue. This is a great album where she took her character from the Dick Tracy movie and made an entire album out of it. Funny how you were describing detective movies and basically just described Dick Tracy lol
Hanky Panky is genius. Madonna has such a great SOH on this album but also delivers some tearjerkers.
so many people reacting to Madonna these days. She´s being recognised for other generations just because she simply can´t be ignored. She´s too big.
YOU'RE A LEGEND
Hey humble guy!! You definitely got the character she was portraying in movie. The duet she sang with was Mandy Patinkin. The other 2 part song u liked was w Warren Beatty. 👍👍
Aww your reactions are so cute. I remember my 10 year old self jamming out to this. Lol
I LOVE Now I'm Following You and that whole transition. LOVE!! In fact, love the whole album. Such artistry!
Your assessment about Ga Ga and her fans is on spot.
Love your reactions!
This album was inspired by the film, "Dick Tracy" that Madonna had a supporting role in. So, you nailed it as far as this reminding you of a detective type story, film noir, where a woman in a tight dress (Madonna) drops a file on a detective's desk to solve a crime that she secretly committed. I thought this was an interesting album and also showed Madonna's range not just in vocals, but the different styles of music she experiments with. She also wrote 6 of the tracks off the album. "Vogue" was a massive huge hit. It's considered one of Madonna's classics. Although it did seem out of place a bit on this album and should've been added to the "Like a Prayer" album since there was certainly space for more hits on that one and it was written and recorded during that time. It was originally supposed to be a B-Side to the "Keep it Together" single from that album anyway. Madonna wrote the lyrics and recorded the song in under three weeks. Released it and it went to #1 immediately. Check out the "Blonde Ambition Tour" which supports many of Madonna's hits pre-1990.
LOVE this album so much! I play it more than some of her studio albums.
Vogue was produced by Shep Pettibone, at that perood of time he used the Bazooka drums, and this type of composition you can hear it on the Janet Jackson’s remix of Miss You Much (Shep’s House Dub)
This album is just pure fun! And I can't get over how Vogue originally was a B-side before it got pushed up because the executives insisted it was a hit. Blonde Ambition tour had so many of these songs and it was so great.
Amazing reaction. You NEED to react to her 1991 Oscar performance of Sooner or Later, it's one of her greatest performances, probably even one of the best Oscar performances of all time. Trust me, you don't want to miss it if you're doing a Madonna deep dive.
I love your comment about Gaga. Thank you it’s so true.
I really loved your comments about this album you reaction was amazing
I've never heard this first song. Great vocals, overall! Interesting era for M. THX!
In regards to your "its the 1990s" comment, in reference to Cry Baby,, it's actually set in the 30s gangster noir world, so fits that time period's moral ideas, though released in 1990.
This album is called I'm Breathless: Music From And Inspired By The Movie Dick Tracy. This album is Madonna's way of doing a character study and expanding on her character's thoughts, feelings and experiences in the songs.
you are so cute when ur bopping around to this album :P
You activated my SIRI when u said hey sire add this song 😂
React to the performance of Vogue on VMAs, it’s incredible
You should react to "THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION"!
He's heard most of those songs though - but he should definitely listen to the two new tracks.
Brilliant!
this album is so good omgg
Well this was fun. Thnx.
Yeahhh work that shoulders mama!!! I love your reviews on madonna's songs. Youre very handsome as well.
I so agree. Now, I'm following you.
Man, Madonna is the greatest artist the world has ever known. For real. She is so fucking creative and ahead of her fuckin times. I just love her. Glad you're doing all of her discography. She, The Queen, worths it!
MORE MADONNA!!!
her song won best song at academy awards
I read somewhere that this was her favourite album ( I think it was bedtime stories interview ) it’s certainly her most creative one and I love the production on it - my faves are vogue , something to remember and back in business - love all the backing vocals too and was great to hear a lot of Nikki and Donna here - you didn’t really seem that impressed by it though? Thought you would love the ballads as I know how much you loved live to tell and it’s her same collaborator pat Leonard 🥺
It’s from the movie Dick Tracy with Warren Beatty in 1990 ..
The biggest traversty of this album was the fact that the record company abandoned "Now I'm Following You" as the next single after Hanky Panky. It's a real shame because it's such an innovative song and would probably have been a surefire hit at the time. They even got so far as commissioning promos and remixes before they pulled the pin.
That's Mandy Patankin, Broadway and TV star singing on What Can You Lose. It's Warren Beatty, movie star and non -singer, attempting to sing on Now I'm Following You. Reminds me of Pierce Brosnan trying to sing in Mamma Mia film. I remember reading something about autotune being created for Warren Beatty's bad singing, or that it was the first time it was publicly acknowledged that autotune existed and was used.
Warren didn’t sing on Now I’m Following You
and AutoTune wasn’t invented until 1997
This wasn’t a soundtrack, it was inspired by the movie, which had it’s own actual soundtrack. A couple of songs we’re in the movie and in fact, the song “Sooner Or Later” won the Oscar that year. The movie for this ,is the Live Action “Dick Tracy”, which Madonna played a lounge singer named Breathless Mahoney. Such and underrated album and sadly got no awards, it was due.
To answer your question about you being greedy...You are greedy in the good way: willing to explore;-)
And I love you for that!
Watching this reaction for a second time, and having a blast..for a second time;-)
I’m going bananas!😍
We need your reaction to the "like a prayer" videos and vogue too!! Please ♥️
Someone finally did I'm breathless
This music is from and inspired by the movie "Dick Tracy". Such a great movie.
The last track Vogue was originally planned for her B-side to her upcoming single Keep It Together in early 1990. But when her record label executives heard it they knew it was going to be a hit. So Madonna put this song on this album because it was next album or soundtrack release after Like A Prayer and because of the rap in towards the end of the song she lists the famous actors and actresses with the exception of Joe DiMaggio who was a well known baseball player who was once married to Marilyn Monroe that were considered the Golden Age of Hollywood from the 30s, 40s and 50s. And because Dick Tracy was set in the 30s with gangsters, moll like Breathless Mahoney and with a film noir feeling she felt that the song was a good way to add to it and close it out. Plus even though Vogueing and the stars that she raps in the song are from older times the song itself production wise and the genre it is in takes her back to her dance music roots.
Madonna was introduced to Vogueing when her long time friend Debi Mazar, who Madonna met in 82 at the Danceteria night club where Madonna made her break through the DJ Mark Kamins, told her about it and took her to see Jose Gutierrez and Luis Camacho vogue at the Sound Factory night club in NYC. Madonna was so impressed with their dancing that she asked them to audition for her upcoming Blond Ambition Tour and they appeared in her Vogue music video and Blond Ambition Tour and Truth or Dare documentary which is the behind the scenes of the Blond Ambition Tour.
I can't wait for you to react to the Vogue music video and the Blond Ambition Tour.
I love your comment.. by the u are humble hehee.. madonna is such a versatile.. stay safe alwayss
This is one of my most solid Madonna record. I think it's in my top 5 fave of hers. My I'm Breathless LP is a go-to when I can't decide which to spin. It's got a lot of Stephen Sondheim numbers, an OST to the 30's America detective 90s movie Dick Tracy based on the hit comic book of the same title. Vogue was an instant classic and iconic. YOU HAVE TO react to react to her MTV VMA performance of Vogue. My fave next to this track is More. Did I already say you have to react to Vogue fr the MTV VMAs?
Oh, and by the way, Mandy Patinkin sang in What Can You Lose.
Esse álbum é coisa de gênio. Perfeição!
Madonna ALWAYS emotes perfectly on every track.
Vocals 🔥
What can you lose is a masterpiece
I’m Breathless was one of three soundtracks released for the film Dick Tracy: Madonna’s great concept album, from the perspective of her character, also a 2nd soundtrack of songs by other artists recorded for the movie, and finally the movie’s film score written by Danny Elfman. Not many movies get 3 albums, but this was a big movie in 1990, and the studio’s marketing machine (Touchstone Pictures, an imprint of Disney) was working at full throttle on this one.
