Amazing project, I learned a ton seeing how you tackled this! I think the Arduino is probably overkill for fan control, but being more of a software person myself, I don't know how you'd wire that up without one. But since it's already there, I bet you could program the fan to do some special effects, maybe blow smoke rings or something. Or maybe it could detect the glass cover and start/stop the fan automagically. Just throwing out some ideas for v2.0 - it's already awesome. 👍👍
I agree the arduino was absolutely overkill, but I had a bunch of Nanos laying around so it was a quick solution that was available for me 😅 Smoke effects could be really cool! I'll keep that in mind!
The nano was not overkill it was unnecessary.12v Power supply -> variable resistor -> fan and done. I am however old enough to remember buying parts from Radio Shack. It was however a beautiful build.

Haha thank you! I did 90% of the work for this in the kitchen of my last tiny apartment so, although it wasn't ideal, it's totally possible to do it without a workshop! 😅
That's a good point, I didn't actually mention what they're for in the video 😅 Smoking a whiskey-based cocktail (or straight whiskey) adds a complex smokey flavor and brings out some of the natural notes in certain whiskeys. It's quite delicious!!

This is a recent chanel that I subbed. There is no doubt you are talented and smart. But would you tell me what the point of having this device in a bar is? I don't have even a guess. Does it change the drink somehow? I watched you build it but I don't get it. 😮
Smoking certains kinds of drinks and cocktails (especially whiskey based) can make the drink taste incredible! Have you ever had a good smoked cheese? It has a similar effect. It adds a smokey flavor but also increases the depth of the flavors already present in the drink. The exhale through the nose after each sip becomes more delicious as well haha. It's not for everyone but I quite enjoy it!
@@Geordiecrafts It sounds an interesting experiment except my alcoholic consumption is rare and liquor basically never happens. I limit alcohol to beer occasionally or wounds. I also imagine myself sneezing whiskey through my nose with loads of pain and embarrassment. 😄
