  • Finally, we can share with you all our graduating film: Forget Me Not
This was our thesis film made for the Classical Animation Program at LCAD
This film took two and half years to make and mostly just the two of us handling the entire pipeline from start to finish. There are a few people we also want to credit in helping us make this film-- we couldn't have done it without them!
    Music Composer: Maria Vertiz
    Credits and Typography: Amin Seyedi
Set Designing and 3D Modeling: Austin Tyler
And for those wondering: The credit song is Un Amor Asi by Luis Rios

It all depends on how you perceive people, its a fact that life is a struggle for a single parent raising two kids ,a child of her age obviously will lack the emotional maturity to understand not to demand attention at all times from her father. But somewhere deep in her heart she did know that her father does care for her.In this busy life being overburdened with responsibility humans fails to express love to others.the preoccupied mind doesn't allow you too think about minute aspects of relationships.

There’s several meanings that can be drawn from this (pun intended), but the part that made me cry was how Ophelia was able to recognize the lost child’s pain and, knowing that they are missed, was then able to help the lost child and then herself. Sometimes we don’t recognize the solution to our own problems until we see someone else experience something similar. Absolutely beautiful animation btw!!!

I love how the film is based around the flowers forget-me-nots and shows them repeatedly in the film. It’s also based around a garden so makes sense.
I absolutely loved this. There’s also not many short films in Spanish with subtitles and as someone trying to learn Spanish at the moment it was really helpful.
I love the meaning behind it and how the kid felt like a black cat who was unwanted and was like a bad omen.
Beautiful animation. So much thought put into it.

Dad's a single parent. His strictness is because he doesn't want to parentified Ophella, but he does need her to be more understanding that he's only one person trying to do the job of two people. And her sister isn't old enough or able enough to do things on her own yet, meaning that she needs him in ways Ophella doesn't anymore (feeding, walking, all things babies can't do on their own). Still Ophella's young and doesn't understand just yet. Finding the lost boy and his missing poster helped her gain that understanding, especially when she reunited with her father and sister and seeing how they *both* were worried about her.
Seems the lost boy was in a similar situation to her: single parent household with siblings. Only instead of being the oldest child, he's one of the middle children. Mom's no doubt even more busy then Ophella's dad and middle children often feel like the oddballs because they are neither the responsible elders nor the needy youngest. And Mom must have a harder time splitting her attention between five kids: the majority of which are boys.

Me lembrou o meu eu de alguns anos atrás.
    nunca esteve e
    sempre fará a diferença”.

The underwater scene is my favorite part. Such good music and sound design! That part is so beautifully animated, with the details of the other child's subtle changes in appearance. I love the composition of the part where Ophelia hears her dad's voice and is brought into the light. I keep coming back to it.
I really liked this animation. The adorable characters and stunning backgrounds really give off a whimsical and child-like feeling. I felt like I was taken on an adventure to an unknown world.
The ending with the baby reaching out for Ophelia and seeing the boy's family run to greet him literally brought tears to my eyes.

Ppl of all ages struggle to connect when they are dysregulated, resulting in so many misunderstandings (feelings of inadequacy, rejection, abandonment.. ) increasing the distance between them. It is challenging but rewarding to fight against that current to reconnect, mend & build stronger connections. Children are not the only runaways- hurting fathers & hurting mothers leave their hurting children as dysregulation dominos thru society (so many hurting, lonely ppl..). Make a vid about this! 😉

No way they named her Ophelia 💀
That aside, wow this animation really subverted my expectations! I thought it’d be a stereotypical student animation about a girl losing her father (death, not being lost) related to the flower the forget-me-not. Perhaps the dad would be the owner a flower shop. Those animations are good too, but they’re a dime a dozen. I like how this one focuses on feeling unwanted even when that isn’t true, it’s not done to death and relatable enough for everyone, more so for some than others. There’s smaller things to pick up on, like how Ophelia drowns herself and the little girl nearly did that herself (only metaphorically in her own depressing thoughts I assume, not in a sleep forever way). Also the mark the hawk left on her, which could just symbolize damage to herself. Given the context of mental strife and how they were placed on her arm, I interpret it as a metaphor for self harm, or at least the idea of it (a physical mark left on oneself as “evidence” of a battle with mental illness). I like how the meaning of the flowers is twisted from that in Hamlet. The outcome of the animation is different from what one might guess if they have read or watched the play. It’s similar enough though- showing madness and sending a message to someone else that has meaning despite seemingly nonsensical. I could gush more, but you get the point!

I think this great film has some amazing metiphores. I like how it shows that being a "missing person" is not the only way a person can get lost. We can get lost when we feel forgotten or worthless. Then I like how it shows the pull that depression or mental illness has on a person. You start out thinking that you are in a place where you can control what is going on. It might not be normal but it seems "okay" so you allow yourself to go to a dark place inside your mind or your illness. Then, you know it isn't right. You feel off but, your mind is still telling you that you need the drug, you need to stop eating, you should just stay home because no one loves you, nothing you do is right. Again, you know the feelings are "wrong" but in a weird way they are also comforting. Sometimes you give in to that feeling of dispaire and you realize that there really are "monsters" inside your brain. You can't control your condition, your depression, your mental illness any more. Then you have to decide to fight. People who suffer like this are so strong, like....people who never suffered like this can't even start to understand the struggle it takes to try to pick yourself up, convince your self that you are worthy, that people do love you, that life is worth going on and that you can fight! I like that the lost little boy saw how the girl had the courage to fight off the bad thoughts and it gave him the courage to step out of the darkness too. This is a message of hope to everyone who struggles with their mental health.

This is so amazing to see, especially after seeing all your other art! This is so incredible! The story that you told with such a short amount of time has such a beautiful meaning behind it and is the perfect compliment to your animation! The animation is so seamless. This is truly a beautiful work of art! Congratulations on finishing this short film!! Your guy’s art is amazing and this is so inspiring to see you guys creating this film and this studio for yourselves! ☆☆☆ Congratulations ☆☆☆
