    For those who have never built a house, it's hard to beat that feeling when you finally walk through the finished product. Starting with the day you cleared and leveled the lot till then. There are days when you say "man, I have surely bit off more than I can chew here..." But then after an indescribable amount of work and worry, it's done. Great job, EC.

    If only there was a way to duplicate this level of dedication and care for every house. They are throwing together matchstick houses with pre-warped siding on every bare piece of land in my town and selling them for 2x what I paid four years ago. Half the size of my current home, twice the price, and 1/8th the craftsmanship!

    • @RabidParana1

      @@darrinpennington very true. But it still doesn't explain the outrageous quality-cost ratio that a lot of places have right now. It's not. Hard to take a few extra seconds here and there to make sure it's done right and have some pride in your work. But most contractors don't care and just want to make the money as fast as possible

    • @dustina6261
      @dustina6261 Před 2 lety +5

      Uhhh everybody in every and any industry wants to make money as fast as possible. You’re telling me your business or company that you work for or run takes as long as possible to “do it right”? Spending the most and taking the longest doesn’t equal more profit and has put many contractors and companies out of business sadly. Quality and perfection went away when people stopped being willing to pay for it, I don’t like it but it’s the world we live in. Washers/dryer/car/stoves/microwaves all don’t last much more than 5years not because they can’t make them better. Because quality isn’t profitable

    • @RabidParana1
      @RabidParana1 Před 2 lety +2

      @@dustina6261 it's about finding a balance. I'm a Shingler and in my trade it sure as hell is about getting things done as fast as possible. But if your quality gets sacrificed for speed then it can cause major problems and ends up costing you in the long run.
      Edited to add:
      We're talking about big time builders charging premium prices for houses that most people are going to spend the rest of their life paying off but only have a 5 year warranty because they're built by the cheapest sub contractors that can only make a living if they make that sacrifice on quality and walk away before it's a problem.

    I have watched almost the entire series and I’ve seen the meticulous essential craftsmanship that has gone into this very very well-built home. I commend you for the in-depth look you have given us into your methods on this project.
    My very crude evaluation is that the house is worth $1.2 M. Whoever purchased that house for 610 did get a bargain because there’s no home in that region which is built as well as that one what does much attention to detail care and thoughtfulness.
    I am a custom home builder I definitely appreciate you having spent time crafting that whole in-depth series.

    Scott I really appreciate your series on building a house. I have watched every episode multiple times since the start of the pandemic. It was a huge help to me! Just to have Scott's soothing voice playing away was a good thing.
    And the only comment that I could make is that as it turned out, making an ADA Compliant home would have been an awesome way to go. And you're really not that far off from it with the obvious exception of the central or backstairs needing an elevator alternative. You guys probably would have gotten them someone to donate it. But when the showers backyard patio etcetera, you're just a ramp handrail grab bar away from being ADA Compliant.

As a young builder having recently started my own construction company, this series and this channel have been invaluable to my career. I believe that this series is a landmark in the field of construction and professional education. Thank you, Scott and Nate, from the bottom of my heart. I even learned something about painting and sheetrock. If the event I get work done or build a house, I will review segments of this series to make sure it is done properly. I've been watching this series since the beginning and I must say - it has been an absolute pleasure. I've enjoyed every single episode and it's a real shame (for me that is) that it has finally come to an end. For me, I feel like it's the end of an era if you like. But on the other side I'm happy for you guys that you're finally done. What a house! I would be proud of living there and I know you guys are proud as well. You should be. The finished product shows a lot of craftsmanship and professionalism.

    Scott, please accept my accolades for your documentary videography approach. This “hold camera to body, if using pointer hold pointer steady in frame like a microscope pointer” method is practical, translatable, and shows a surveyor’s mindset. In other words, this approach effectively immerses a segment of viewers in a level of in-situ accuracy that a more “artful”* 360 camera often does not! • @fprintf

      Comparatively. $610K won't get you much of anything in greater New York, Boston or much of coastal California. So glad you discussed your beautiful Emtek locks and drawer pulls that were installed around the house. ASSA ABLOY makes some seriously good locks! Great series on the spec house. Looking forward to more carpenter and tool tips as well as blacksmithing. In the meantime I'll just hang out smoking my pipe... 😉

    Really exceptional work. If only all new houses were built with this level of care and attention to detail! Top quality craftsmanship and materials, built to last 300 years. The buyer is getting an absolute steal at that price. I'm a little jealous of them!

    I think this video series, and the documentation and peace of mind it provides to the buyer, easily adds $100k-$200k in value. Job well done!

    I've watched all 141 episodes of the construction of this house from start to finish by Essential Craftsman and got to say, it's Class-A at it's best. Wonderful job, so well explained and detailed. I see there's alot of other video's by essential craftsman on here and I'll watch each of those as well. There was one episode of the series that I had to go back and rewatch, the episode where you said you said you made a mistake building the Stairs and you had to rip the out and redo it. I was unable to see the mistake, but now I understand, you said they didn't meet code. They sure looked just fine. Wonderful job, very educational. I'm not a carpenter by no means, but very interested in this work. I certainly gained a lot of knowlegde from watching these 141 episodes. Between those 141 episoded and the Larry Haun series of framing a house, Very very educational. Great Job.

    I think the price (watching from Australia) seems to be a very good buy. I am sure the new owners will be very happy with their purchase. I remember during there build how there was deer behind the construction and will probably make an appearance again. The view out over the street and others homes to the mountains is worth waking up to. My only preference (if it was my build and it's not) would have to have an enclosed shower instead of a shower curtain. I have enjoyed watching the whole series and now have to hope for another. Congratulations on constructing a beautiful home.

    Can’t believe this series is over. I remember the first videos. Nate you’ve done such a good job with your videography and editing. 141 episodes is a crazy accomplishment and that doesn’t even consider all the non-house videos along the way and before. Looking forward to the next phase of the channel!

    Scott, what a huge undertaking you and Nate took to not only build but film every step (and edit etc) this amazing house of quality.
    I'm sure whoever buys it not only can see the videos and be assured that what they see is what they get but will be very satisfied with their new HOME.
    Well done guys, I'm extremely impressed with your skills.

    The price is subjective, I bought a house built in 2006 in TN with the same bedrooms, bath on 1.5 acres and great scenery for $250k and 1 hour North of Nashville.
    With that said, I sold the duplex I lived in near Los Angeles that was old and kind of run down for $750K. My sister and I split the money from that house as we both owned it and I was able to but my current house and a new truck, 2 new atvs and have some money in the bank.
    $610k is probably a fair deal based on location and the house is brand new and beautifully crafted

    I almost didn't want to watch this one. I didn't want it to be over! And here in southern Ontario that is a steal of a deal for a house like that, even with the conversion rate. At least in my area, but I guess it all depends on the market. Just hope you guys made a buck you definitely deserve it

    It looks amazing, you have done an outstanding job. I personally am grateful you took the brave decision to build a house from scratch on a challenging site and film it all in such detail. The quality of the videos you published are up the with the standard of the house. I also really enjoyed the human dimension you presented throughout with the accolades of experts you brought in and your own personable delivery. And you made very complex concrete work look very easy!
