    Thank you Chard for a basic nuts and bolts review that no one else seems to be interested in talking about. There are a LOT of shmoes like me out there that need this kind of info. because we are using old technology and are upgrading some of our "stuff" and can't afford to do it all at once. For example an Lg C1 4K tv is on it's way to me, but my blu-ray dvd player is 10 years old and works great for playing movies, which are my main interest. Should I go buy a 2.0 hdmi cord ? I just liked, subscribed and rang the bell.

    Very good explanation, thanks. My main open question is: how do I tell the difference between cables when I am looking at them? How do I tell one physical cable from another? I have so many at home, I need to figure out which are 1.x or 2.x.

    • @ChardTheTechGuy

    I wonder if for cable lengths of like 10 meters, would 2.1 help with better input lag? I've been trying to find such info/tests but I'm really struggling to find anything online other than basically try to keep HDMI lengths at or below 3m, and that due to longer lengths it will "either work or it won't", but there's no mention of any resultant input lag change at the screen when "it works".
    This is for connecting to a 4k 60Hz TV from a new PC with HDMI 2.1, I highly doubt I'll upgrade to 8k or for over 120Hz for minimum of 5 years yet.

    • @pilsplease7561
      @pilsplease7561 Před 2 lety

      Cables won't matter input lag is actually display refresh lag, so the panel itself needs to be fast enough.

    • @pilsplease7561
      @pilsplease7561 Před 2 lety

      In that case use 2.0 as 2.0 supports 4k 60 fps if you want 4k 120 or higher you need 2.1.

    • @darrylpolite8722
      @darrylpolite8722 Před 2 lety +1

      It all depends. If your TV sports 2.1 you actually may notice an improvement. It may be native at 60hz but it may have a motion setting enhancing it to 120hz for blur which is where the cable may come in handy. I was using a regular 2.0 on my PlayStation 5 because my 4K TV is only 60hz. When playing a game I noticed major blur on certain scenes and sometimes the screen went blank. I updated all of my cables to 2.1 and the difference was night and day. This was strictly from the gaming experience not being all that great. Now the benefits that I get with the 2.1 is my surround sound had been enhanced with the additional formats supported, my movies are more vibrant with more detail in color, and I'm seeing HDR and Dolby Vision on even more options that what I originally was previously before the upgrade.
      My personal opinion is it's worth the upgrade if you have a 4k TV at 60hz that has the option to enhance it to 120hz in the settings which actually simulates the frames adding in extra frames per second. If not, you may have a home theater that handles a lot of audio formats that accepts 2.1, I encourage you to do the upgrade.
      When purchasing a cable, be sure to verify that it's a true 2.1 that's not a knockoff. I purchased mine from Amazon and looked into all of the reviews. My 3.6ft cables were $20 each and my 15 ft cable was right at $40. Prices are better now on them though.
