Guess: two light sources, UI changes brightnesss of the two. Tight beam is laser on phosphor, flood beam conventional LEDw/ flood reflector. (Now will go check...)
EDIT: I was 60% super-wrong. Got the laser-on-phosphor part right. But is wild new approach: "LEP high-performance module
Liquid Crystal Diffractive Electro-optic Lens (LC DEL)"

Yes the diffractive lens is just insane

@@NitecoreSGOh yes, totally crazy. Really impressive science fiction stuff ... made real!
After a few minutes of Googling: wow, so much has been going on in the field.
Is this light linked to this 2016 patent by DigiLens? Other patents or publications?
      US20180246354A1 Electrically focus-tunable lens
"An electrically focus-tunable lens having a passive lens and a liquid crystal diffractive lens both sandwiched between a first transparent substrate with a first electrode applied to one surface and a second transparent substrate with a second electrode applied to one surface. The electrodes are operative to apply at least one voltage across the liquid crystal diffractive lens."
