    There’s something uniquely awesome about seeing such an old historic relic still functioning.

    Its the definition of that rifle you always just wanted for the heck of it. I think it just looks kinda cool and funky

    One of the most beautiful rifles in my opinion.
    Can't wait to get one for my own collection

    RTI reminds me of an online gun junk yard 😂 would be ok for a reloading pet project,but more of a pain than it's worth to me,still quite interesting just the same thanks😮

    These would be great for mild cast bullet loads like 12gr of 2400 with anything from a 130 to 165 gr cast bullet, you could shoot 'em all day without worrying. The bonus is, it's way cheaper to shoot cast loads especially if you scrounge around tire shops for cheap or free wheel weights.

    I picked one from RTI, the bore was good, the wood not-so-much. It was so bad that I re-did the wood, and it came out really good. I think mine is just going to be a wall-hanger (for now).

    You got lucky!! I have one on the way, can’t wait. Got a M91 Carcano long boy from RTI too with the sweetest trigger. Like your Vetterli, no creep, no wall, barely 3lbs.

    Go to Graf and Sons in Mexico Missouri, they have PPU .268 bullets.

      Apparently these Vetterlis do better with .264 or .266 bullets. The sleeves they used are a slight bit tighter than carcano barrels supposedly.😊

    Great video man! Ive got a few of these and bought a RTI one so im wanting to shoot mine like you have! Just some advice that would help you with yours, you were saying yours has gunk built up in it id recommend getting the ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor freight they just came out with a few months ago. Worth every penny.

    Good for you...I'm done with RTI.....Some one new to Milsurps going to get hurt with what their selling using factory ammo ..... On some Milsurps I do the same down loading with Red Dot, Trail Boss n IMR 4895..... Ive sold my Carcanos about 4 years ago cause ammo was always an issue..... Never had a Vetterli though pretty good shooter too.... Be going by you on I-75 Sat. to go fishing n get back into the 80's, lol... be well.

    I'm enjoying the videos man. I would enjoy a surplus gun collection video if you are up to it. I have some surplus rifles aswell. They are definitely neat

    I load .266 cast polymer coated bullets with 8-9 grains of Alliant Unique for my vetterli.
    I was shooting 120grn but now I’m switching to 136grn bullets.

    If you ran black powder reloads through the rifle, it would probably be softer on it and could be fired repeatedly. It would be very dirty, though.

    • @AjackLee4
      @AjackLee4 Před 9 měsíci

      I'm considering doing reloads with non corrosive black powder replacement. Might still retain some of the power and not have that sharp pressure curve that smokeless has.

    So… what was your powder load? I was able to find some .268 bullets and am reloading for a TS. Looking at getting a RTI Vetterli

      Othias worked up a load on C&Rsenal, it barely got the bullets out of the barrel, they were terrified of squibs, yet it still blew up two actions. I don't think there is a "safe" load for these guns. I bought one from RTI and we magnafluxed the parts, EXTENSIVE small cracks that could be seen with the naked eye. It is a wall hanger for sure.
      There are a couple things to remember, these guns came out of a third world country with a 5$ military budget. Ethiopia was buying whatever they could afford. And it has been said that they used 6.5 smokeless full power rounds because they were cheap on the surplus market. A perfect rifle will take the abuse, for a time. But every single round does damage, and I don't want to be next to the receiver with my face when it happens.

    • @Crustyguns
      @Crustyguns Před 7 měsíci

      @@jacktheaviator4938 So… I worked up some loads and have sent over 50 rounds down range w/out issue. I used cast .268 bullets and 18 gr of IMR 3031. Zero signs of overpressure. My Vetterli is very accurate, but I have to aim 2’ low and 6” to the right at 50 yds🤣

    Royal tiger is really just a gamble, but then thats almost worth it at this point. Its a pick your poison, pay way more than its worth (never seen a mosin in my area sell for less than 350) or pay dirt and take a gamble with RTI

    • @Franticalmond2
      @Franticalmond2 Před 7 měsíci

      @@theblindsniper9130 I know, I am asking because I have fired several different loads out of 6 different Vetterli 6.5 rifles but haven’t experienced the gas leakage you said you got, so I was wondering what kind of powder and what charge weight you were using.

  • @jacktheaviator4938
    @jacktheaviator4938 Před 7 měsíci

    Check yours super close, and I wouldn't shoot anything over half powered rounds through it. 6.5s are really notorious about being a VERY weak action, and are known to explode. Mine from RTI had serious cracking when magnafluxed. And the cracks spread out from the chamber and locking wedge. Very unsafe rifle, it is a wall hanger for sure.
    If you don't believe me, go watch the C&Arsenal video. They had 2 different examples from different years, and both had catastrophic failures.

    • @Franticalmond2
      @Franticalmond2 Před 7 měsíci

      Not a weak action, also not “known for exploding”. Tons of over exaggerated lore because people watched the C&Rsenal video. They used a bad choice of bullet which caused overpressures.
      You took one from RTI and magnafluxed it?

    That 1200 fps would kill a deer. shot placement is the most important aspect of hunting. Now don't take shots past 50 yards. if you can print a 2 inch group at 50, use it. I'll wait and hear from you the results.
