  • Just a retake of the former Turnbull elevator at the Sir James Dunn Physics building at Dalhousie University. It has a new cab interior now.

For a four -story building I’m surprised these aren’t hydraulic

I know. I'm actually glad it wasn't hydraulic though. Traction elevators are far more superior. Not to mention more environmentally friendly.

East Coast Elevators sure they can be more environmentally friendly, but hydraulic elevators are becoming more environmentally friendly because I know for a fact from watching a video that ThyssenKrupp uploaded about their Endura/Endura MRL elevators run on a new type of oil that is Easier to recycle and it’s also biodegradable if I am correct. Some of them even run vegetable oil now as well.
As for traction elevators, they are getting really high tech as well with high efficient drive systems for The elevators, as well as excess energy recovery that can be used to power other things around a building. I know Otis uses that with their ReGen system.

East Coast Elevators But to be honest, I feel safer in a hydraulic elevator because I don’t have to worry about cables breaking on a traction elevator causing at the freefall even though I know there is a safety governor on the elevator to stop it from freefalling. That’s just my biggest fear with traction elevators, sure I got over my fear a lot from getting stuck in elevators.
But at the same time when I get in an elevator that’s traction I’m always on high alert just to see how the elevator performs. Like if the elevator is really shaky then I’m questioning if it’s safe to use or not.
Also sounds in the elevator shaft raises my concerns as well.
Although I will say that the Otis elevator that we have at superstore in town here did have quite a loud squeak come out of it every time it left the second floor even though it was hydraulic. I informed the manager and the last time I was there the problem was resolved.

@@JordanLoweElevaToursCanada Well that I can understand. Most new hydros are holeless now anyway so they don't have to drill into the ground anymore.
