What starts out as a lavish train ride through Europe quickly unfolds into one of the most stylish, suspenseful and thrilling mysteries ever told. From the novel by best-selling author Agatha Christie, "Murder on the Orient Express" tells the tale of thirteen strangers stranded on a train, where everyone's a suspect. One man must race against time to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again. When there are so many Agatha Christie stories, why re-make the one that audiences know the best?
Because audiences know it the best.
stupid reply but I love it! hahahahaha
I'm not identifying myself It’s all about the money.
David Suchet is the defining Poirot!
I love Kenneth Branagh, I really do. I think he's generally a fantastic actor. But at the same time, he wrote his autobiography at the age of 28-so that tells you a little about the man.
No one can replace David Suchet as Poirot.
Right and because he set the bar so high there’s no way future actors can top his performance ❤
The David Suchet version is utterly superb! So dramatic! So genuinely compelling!
It’s my favourite 🤩
Christie actually thought Finney's moustache was too tame. A hipster competition winner is probably closer to what she had in mind.
The BBC version is not ''actually pretty fun''. That is the version worth seeing, and I don't think it's a coincidence that it's British. One of you hasn't seen that version and the other hasn't seen ANY other versions. Damn. Everyone can be a film reviewer nowadays.
As a general comment, first, I have to say I really like how Michelle Pfeiffer is having a altogether second acting career after she stepped away for several years to raise her children. It was a risky move: actresses, unfortunately, too often have an expiration date of age 40 and other women have stepped away from Hollywood only to find they couldn't step back in. But, Pfeiffer has been taking very good, intelligent roles for herself. She was just as good as DeNiro, in her own way, in "Wizard of Lies". That film was terrific. And, I think playing this older, sultry woman here is another good choice. I won't see the movie in theatres, though, because I don't really see the point of it. I love sumptuous period costumes as much as the next person and better than most but, aside from that eye candy, there really isn't a reason to do this movie...again. And, Brannagh's mustache looks like a Russian wolfhound curled up on his lip. It looks ridiculous and isn't even the same color as his hair. And, as I suspected and this review confirmed, you have a lot of well known actors with not enough for all of them to do. No thanks. Really not interested in Brannagh's latest vanity project. He should have stuck to Shakespeare.
The BBC series of Poirot is really fantastic. Especially the later seasons (Murder on the Orient Express is part of season 12) are holding up really well. That version (2010) of Murder on the Orient Express is very very good.
The best ❤
I had heard someone on Twitter say "Murder on the Polar Express" too. Except it was from someone's kid. (The kid wasn't watching this movie by the way).
Who else here thought Josh Gad was Jack Black?
If she hasn't seen The Best Years of Our Lives, then why be surprised she hasn't seen the 1970s Orient Express. Christy - you've got some movie watching to do.
But a black American doctor in Europe is historically accurate for this time.
During this time period black Americans were denied Advanced degrees in the United States so a great many black Americans had to go to France, Germany, Italy, and Greece to earn Advanced degrees like doctorates or MD's.
did somebody say this wasn't accurate for the time?
Espurr Apparently you must have thought my comment was some kind of criticism? It wasn't, this is a footnote.
A great many...
Brian Redhead I had a relative to give up his American citizenship so he could study in France.
theylied1776 yeah you did.
David Suchet is the best Poirot
ITA. Peter Ustinov was certainly good in the role but Suchet absolutely embodied the character.
I find him irretrievably vain and fussy and I do not like his stiff, pretentious manners, and most especially not his appearance, that awful greasy moustache.
The vain and fussy part pretty embodies the character. The reason that Agatha Christie stopped writing Poirot stories is she eventually came to despise him.
Well that makes two of us then! I just love it when you find such an informative and insightful comment here on CZcams.
Having gone through the entire series on Netflix earlier this year, I have to admit that it becomes a slog somewhere around season six-seven. I do think Suchet's performance keeps it from getting entirely old but the stories start to resemble each other after a while.
The least suspected person is the killer, all Agatha Christie novels are like that.
juan gomez nope. That’s only true in the last case.
juan gomez Not really. A very few books actually have that ending and some of them are repetitive with the ending but almost all books are unique in their own respect. Many books have the most suspected/logical person be the killer too.
You assume there's only ONE killer here.
Did they even read the book? They didn't bother watching the Finney or Suchet version. Lumet, who directed the '74 version and made sure each one got some exposure.
Alonso sounds congested. Must be cold season.
Mid-November, it most certainly is! I recommend Redoxen tablets, they are effervescent Vitamin C tablets you drop in water and they auto-dissolve, tastes terrific. Also Fisherman's Friend to keep a cold at bay that is starting to win.
Fisherman's friend is a blast from the past
It sure is.
Alonzo-the ITV version with the definitive Poirot (David Suchet) is indeed a lot of fun and I'd rank it with the 1974 film.
David Suchet will always be the best, but they should have given him a more impressive moustache.
Shadowman4710 that's ITV not BBC
You're right. My apologies. My only defense is that I'm an American and all British networks look the same to us :)
::gaffe fixed in editing::
Only a few Christie novels have made it to the big screen. Orient, Death on the Nile, Ten Little Indians, The Mirror Crack'd, Evil Under the Sun... why not pick a different one that most people don't know the ending of? Lumet's Orient from 74 is near flawless. Don't try to recreate something perfect... do something original for once. And Brannagh is not and never will be a good Poiret.
Well all the Poirot stories have been adapted by Suchet but yes 😄
The CG in Snowpiercer less believable than Polar Express. Luckily, my mom came across an old DVD of the 1976 version she forgot to give me for Christmas one year that she just brought by, so I'll watch that one, but it's gonna be tough for me to watch Albert Finney and get over the fact he isn't going to use Thompson
It . . . looks like a movie. They should put THAT on the poster! :D
Is Daisy Ridley the new Keira Knightly? They look so much alike.
danel8408 for real! I thought it was Keira Knightly at first.
Kenneth Branagh been given so many chances to resurrect his career.
I loved it. Very interesting, Brannagh seemed to be having so much fun
Get well soon, Alonso!
Judi Dench alone is worth the price of admission.
If you watch this review with your eyes shut, you'd think dave white was doing this review with Christy.
Saw this tonight and loved it!
Do you think Alonso could have remade Star Wars?
They are apples and tomatoes! Love it!
The mustache overshadowed all other characters in the film. Had I not seen earlier versions of this story (Peter Ustinov & David Suchet) I might have missed keep aspects of the movie. I love Kenneth Branagh's work. Wish he'd stick to writing and directing.
it's been sixing it up
Oh and this linked me directly to the suave Belgium full movie, which I bookmarked, but time and convenience.
I will probably see this, but I've seen so many versions of it I'm not majorly excited. I think it's funny on the poster how it lists all the Oscar nominees without mentioning all the Tony winners.
For me, it's hard to do this sort of movie after CLUE which perfectly parodied it. Like trying to do a classic FRANKENSTEIN movie after YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN perfectly spoofed the genre... Didn't Branagh make a Frankenstein movie, too?
Yeah, with De Niro. And it was pretty bad. Very camp and overdone.
Laughed my ass off at the grumbling mention of Johnny Depp at the end
"did he add anything to proceedings? grumble mumble...."
Guys... come on now. You're allowed to mention that someone you dislike for offscreen reasons is in a movie.
And it was ITV not BBC!
Ken sounds like Inspector Clouseau.
it's not the BBC Version. It's ITV!
Was "Murder on the Orient Express" any good? Take a look at my review to find out. As always, thank you very much for watching!
czcams.com/video/tMNDVr9qztQ/video.html
But Kenneth Branagh had the better moustache.
Hmmm... that is too bad. I’ve never seen any version of this story. I was hoping it was good.
Steven Briseno for me it was a great movie, 8/10 for me
i liked it
the 1974 one is the only good one. this looks as boring as the bbc version
I Really Liked this movie!
Assault on budget Am trak coming soon
You dont get to call yourself the greatest detective in the world... unless youre sherlock hemlock
A dazzling meh would be better than the 1974 Finney snoozefest. Alonso keeps ignorantly swearing in his reviews so needlessly.
If you've only seen the 2017 movie, and not the 1974 movie, this movie review is not worth seeing.
Johnny Depp has one scene with any meaningful length of dialogue in the film and I'm pretty sure he was drunk while filming the scene. wtf dude.
This was Murder on the Snooze Express imo
9.1 ign. Had a laugh at that. Finally some americans who agree with me and my british opinion.
It seems many are complaining about this film, yet, what is not mentioned is James Prichard, Christie's great-grandson was producer and was on set. That's a good endorsement for me. Of course, anyone who has read the book or seen other versions you know the ending. When did it become "boring" to sit back, relax, and just enjoy? Cinematography is beautiful & a great cast. It is a movie for adults who enjoy the "craft" and not special effects or super hero Marvel style. It's really is a little weird someone criticizing Sergei because he didn't dance in the movie. Really? You mean if he is cast in anything he should dance...ridiculous!
Soon as I saw Johnny Depp... lost interest.
Well they do kill him, so it may be worth watching that. When it comes out on stream you can have it on a constant loop!
I don't *hate* him. He's just become my GoT Ed Sheeran.
Screw you Johnny Depp is awesome
First off those was allegations that Amber Heard dropped herself and denied violence in the relationship later on and second Trump gets millions of death threats from random people everyday but Johnny Depp's lame joke is apparently hardcore........
Johnny Depp comment about Trump is candy compared to what Kathy Griffin did so attack her not Depp
The racial commentary was really cringey though, didn't fit in the story at all
YMS gave it 1/10 ...
Just came from this movie. It is predictable. 1/3 of movie and you know who killer is .
isn't it supposed to be predictable? any answer is just an agatha christie book away. what were you looking for exactly?
is the killer similar to the 1974 version?
CarSVernon no idea. Didnt watch or read previous movies. I did from time to time watch tv series.
I would imagine it's the same-as it was in the BBC version. This isn't really a story you can change and have it make any sense.
Yeah I'm more interested in the visual composition, the pacing, the dialog, the score, the characterization and so on rather than piddling little details like who the murderer is.
Murder on The Borient Express
One of the worst movies I've seen this year
1. how many movies have you seen this year
2. what are some other contenders for worst
3. what are some of your favorites
4. what did you find so tedious about it?
Merely saying you didn't like it doesn't tell us very much, since nobody here knows you, so you have no credibility, maybe you're just a negative nancy, who knows.
i agree.
Chris Wright
1. a lot of them, I don't try to count it... I watch films / TV shows at least 4 times a week
2. Split, Okja, Beauty and the Beast, Hacksaw Ridge, Alien Covenant, Life, Song to Song...
3. The Blackcoat's Daughter, Raw, Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049, It Comes at Night, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, mother!, Personal Shopper, Get Out, Hounds of Love, I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore...
4. The fact that we don't do the investigation alongside the detective, the fact that this movie doesn't have any sense of danger after the murder, the fact that every character looks more like a cartoon than a real person and the movie takes itself seriously despite that, the fact that the protagonist keeps throwing exposition at us constantly and the fact that this movie asks for a HUGE suspension of disbelief to make the plot twist work. Plus, the cinematography is very basic, a lot of it is just shifting between "shot-reverse-shot" and "wide-shots" of the train.
Definitely slow...... I let myself fall asleep and I know I didn't miss anything important
This is one of my favourite so far
Daisy Ridley is not a good actress, and I look forward to people catching up on that.
I haven't seen her in much but so far, I'd have to agree.
Finally somebody else said it. She was terrible in Force Awakens.
orangesoda I wouldn't have thought she was terrible, I just thought she was okay or passable. Like, someone that you picked to fill a slot because you needed the spot filled, not because they were so super amazing. Still, I also hesitate to call out great actors: I can tell when I like a character on screen and they've got charisma going, but the nitty gritty of discerning someone that was perfect for a role and somebody that just seems to melt into their performance is beyond me.
True That!Double True!!A doe in the headlights&Jeff Buckley pulled that look off with better 'elan,yo!!:)
+S B I thought the same thing although I actually like Kiera Knightly for the most part.
