OP-1 Field - My First Ambient Tape

- After a lot of deliberation I finally decided to buy an OP-1 Field, and here is my first little experiment at trying to make some minimal ambient music with it, I’ve always been drawn to how beautiful and well-designed @teenageengineering products are, and I finally decided to get one for myself, I’m hoping to spend a lot of time learning this amazing instrument and becoming more proficient in it, I think the OP-1 will become my go-to travel companion when it comes to making music!
Please let me know what you think about the OP-1 and this little piece, and if there’s anything you’d like me to try with it!

How do you like the op1 field after a year? I love the experimental way you use it, but hear mixed reviews from people on it. Also looking at the digitakt 2 and push 3 at this pricepoint. So many cool options nowadays!
I’m still enjoying it, and use it a lot for sure, very immediate and usable, I always find myself making great little beats/pieces, I suppose my complaint would be at making more finished, fuller pieces, although that could also be my skill level, as I know plenty of people make great music with it, so it’s definitely capable, unfortunately I don’t have experience with the digitakt or push, but they do look interesting, (for me the digitakt more so) I think you probably can’t go wrong with any, but it depends of what you value most, and what type of music you want to make? I think they approach music making differently, and I personally like the way the OP1 approaches it, if that makes sense!
That was cool. I really have no clue how the OP-1 and the Field work. Do you record audio into it and then manipulate it via the OP-1? Or are all the sounds (source material) also originating from the OP-1?
Thanks! So you can do both, it has audio in and out, but it also has maybe 10 synth engines, a sampler, as well as a drum engine & a drum sampler, but the core functionality is based on a 4 track tape recorder, so you have 4 channels to work with, for this everything I was using came from within the OP-1 itself, but I’ve been experimenting with the sampler too recently 😀
