That camera was so heavy that you can literally see it slowing down the car. Impressive that in only 6/7 years the onboard camera became a tiny chip that didn't affect performance, and by 1990 seeing onboard footage in a race was not anything special
The cameras then were enormous, they would have never been used in a meaningful session. There was a vhs made around this time called lap of the gods, possibly was put on for that.
I have been wanting to search for video from the '81/'82 Las Vegas track. It doesn't look as bad as what it is said to be. There looks to be more space than what articles have made it out to be. Ibexpectsd it to be the width of a driveway or something.
It's large enough, but it seemed awfully boring and repetitive. There is only 1 or 2 turns that are a little bit different. No wonder Alan Jones talked about it at the time as a "Mickey Mouse" track, i.e. not serious.
@@No_Po_Racing nah think about a simple flowing yet easy track like this makes for consistent lap after lap driving and it being in the middle of a 24/7 party city like vegas means not only will drivers who have finished there stint can walk to a nearby hotel and get some sleep in a decent bed ,but all the crew track marshals and stuff like that overall have better quality of life genius.
@@thatonenigeriansformula may it sounds weird, but the track is more demanding than you assume, I think. As a driver you need straights to cool down and without TC you have to be very careful with your tyres (the grip level for this original parking area is normally very low). For the drivers these tracks are hell on earth (maybe not if your name is Senna 😈) Best regards 🏁🏁🏁
Notice how much shift there is in the camera mounting. At first, it gives the vague impression that panels like the wing are being flexed for cornering and braking. Perhaps many of the cars' core structures were that floppy. No wonder they used to bounce so raggedly in this era. The pioneering men of that time were operating at a different level to the comfortable virtual virtual reality experienced by today's radically regulated racers.
I would love F1 to remaster the old footage and release all of that up until 2000-2005. I would gladly buy the collection. It is by far more entertaining than any race today.
On F1TV (F1's official streaming service) they have stuff going back to the 70's & a lot of the uploads from the past 2 years has been upscaled to 1080p/50fps with the 70s reviews & some of the clips in additional programs having been enhanced a bit further. f1tv.formula1.com/ F1TV Pro (Which gives access to live content) isn't available everywhere but F1TV access which gives you the archive & additional programming is available basically everywhere.
Et oui c'était ça la f1 avec le "PROFESSEUR" moins d'électronique moins de fiabilité et surtout moins de sécurité , les jambes sont en avant des roues...... en cas de chocs frontale !!!!!!! il fallait avoir du courage .
