      I use to feed the mockingbirds when I worked at a local restaurant. They were attacking customers, so I started feeding them, to the frustration of my boss who said, "Don't feed them! They attack the customers!" and I'm thinking, well, if we fed them, maybe they won't attack the customers. So I continued. And wouldn't you know, they stopped attacking the customers. I'd get on the side of the building and yell, "HEY, MOCKIN'BIRDS...LET'S EAT!" and they'd come flying, two, sometimes three and four of them.
      The little critters, they LOVE ham. And steak. And hamburgers, just about anything (they didn't like lima beans). The hostesses used to laugh at me, of course, saying, "Dude, you're talking to them birds!", and I tell them, "Well...can YOU call a mockingbird? Besides, they listen better than y'all!" Of course, I quit working there and two months later, someone had told me that the mockingbirds were once again attacking customers. I TOLD them to feed them, nobody gonna listen. So if you have a problem with mockingbirds attacking you in the yard, start talking to them and feed them leftovers. Just not lima beans.

      That's cool! I'm surprised that my cockatiel doesn't cuss. I've had him for about 23 years, so you'd think he'd pick up some choice words. He hasn't yet. I'm glad. Sometimes my mom comes over for a visit, so a cussing cockatiel isn't a good thing to have.

      Oh wow ... and for decades I thought Catholics followed the teachings of Christ and that those who do are called Christians. Damn ...
      The entire educated world's understanding is that Christianity is made up of two sects/branches--Catholicism and Protestantism--from which all other denominations/sects branch off (Protestantism being formed by King Henry VIII so he could divorce his Catholic--Universalist?--wife). If Catholics don't base their religion on Christ (and therefore earning the label 'Christian'), then to which religion do they belong (Christian Universalism doesn't count as a stand-alone religion but rather as merely a branch/sect): Shintoism? Buddhism? Hinduism? Judaism? Islam? Paganism? Celtic? Druidism? Scientology? It seems you are mistaking a branch/sect of a religion as a separate and independent religion. Catholics are Christians, as are Christian Universalists, Lutherans, Methodists, Anglican, Baptists, Seventh Day Adventists, Greek Orthodox, Mormons, Church of God, Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Pentecostals, Episcopalians, ad infinitum. Perhaps these resources may be helpful: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_religious_groups and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Universalism

    I've always loved crows and jays, despite being told to keep them away from my feeders (which I didn't do). They were always wonderfully intelligent and kind to other animals, and to me. I used to watch a blue jay dining at my feeder regularly. He had a squirrel friend, who couldn't get up our "squirrel-proof" feeder-post. So Mr. Jay would carry seeds or suet to the edge of the feeder and generously drop these offerings, one at a time, down to the squirrel, He did this for the squirrel on more than one occasion, so we suspected either friendship or some bizarre, inter-species romance.

      Georgie Gingersnap I have a Sparrow that returns every spring. Around 10 am he will tap on my window, until I acknowledge him.
      I somehow got a male Cardinal in my house. The poor guy, was so exhausted and covered in dust, when we found him behind a dresser, in front of a window. Opened the window. And he fell out of it.
      He survived, and now comes with his mate, every year. They nest in my tree just outside my bedroom window.
      Him and the Sparrow seem to get along. I find them on my Mulberry bush together.

      Georgie Gingersnap don't be too fooled. blue jays are aggressive birds. my first experience with them had me pretty shook as a child. I knew of a robin's nest outside in my front yard and it had eggs. one morning two blue jays came in and violently fought them till the robins flew away, then they threw all of the robin eggs out onto the side walk and crushed them. the jays lived there for the rest of the year.

    There are a lot of crows in my neighbourhood, and I had to rescue a fledgling once. It had fallen from a tall tree in. It couldn't fly yet, was stuck in an open area without any cover, and there are many dogs, outdoor cats and coyotes around here. The parents freaked and one swooped at me, but the moment they noticed I was headed for a wooded area very close by(and where the parents were calling from) they settled down to just cawing angrily at me. I put the baby crow in the nearest the pine tree, the parents cawed at me until I was a good distance away, and thankfully no lasting animosity's come of it! I suspect they figured out I was helping; especially since there was an excited dog being walked very close by, that knew the fledgling was there.

    This is lovely and not that surprising. Local crows and magpies near my factory have gotten to know me over more than ten years I always remember them with some scraps. They will even accost me on the way to or from the kiosk and ask for something and I've doubled back to grab them a piece of bread or something if I didn't have anything. At home our rabbit has known a couple of crows for a while and they also play together. The crows hop around and play chasings with her and sometimes bring a bunch of friends to sit on the fence and look at the rabbit. They like looking at her but only the two she knows get down and play.

    Such a sweet little story! I've been feeding the Ravens that come to my back yard & deck for years but the Seagulls steal the food & bully them. I started putting the food under or in the boughs of the pine trees, as it's meant for them and not the Seagulls. I named the large Raven, "Sid" who seems to come when I call to him.

    Thats amasing ! This most be a speshal girl ! I love crows and skjærer ! They live where people live . Before they ate garbage, but now , where I Live , it s impossible for them to get to it . Think they struggle more to get food espeshaly in the winter . I also feed them and they sit and look in the window to see If I m home ... can only give a couple of grapes erly in the morning because it s not alowed to feed them where I live. If I lived in a house , I would feed them in my garden ! I tried to lay blingy things and spoons to see If they wanted a tressure, but they didn t . It s amasing what they give you ! Wow, Warms my heart ❤️🦄🍀🕊💎📎💗✨❣️

    So what do crows like to eat? I see a lot of them in the neighborhood. I had no idea that they could be friendly if you fed them. I get sparrows at my feeder and blackbirds once and awhile. I also have an all you can eat corn cob buffet for the squirrels.

    • @TamaStreams
      @TamaStreams Před 7 lety +1

      Crows and most corvid is general are mostly omnivores, and will eat mostly anything displayed to them, so long as it suits their tastes. Corn is a very common one, in popper form or in dried cob form, most mixxed seeds, nuts, dried fruits, insects (namely beetles and mealworms), even some small scraps of raw meat is on their list. Small fishes, such as silverback shad, are also very good ideas. If you can make them have to think, all the better, they seem to enjoy problem solving quite a bit.

    • @kiddfaith4397
      @kiddfaith4397 Před 7 lety +9

      Wild crows enjoy food like peppers, low phosphorus cat food, raw grains, popcorn(unsalted), bread or pasta(whole grain), worms&grubs&snails(get from pet or bait store, so they're non-toxic), raw and boiled eggs, nuts(unsalted), and berries. You can also try raw meat slices such as chicken and mussels, as well as pre-killed baby feeder mice from the pet store, if you're not squeamish. However, if you don't want rotting meat and all that comes with it laying around, I'd suggest only putting out meat once the crows have started coming regularly.
      DO NOT FEED THEM;
      -Chocolate(poisonous to crows; causes vomiting, diarrhea, seizures and death)
      -Apple seeds, pear seeds, cherry pits, as well as peach, nectarine, plum and apricot pits(all contain traces of arsenic)
      -Unwashed, bought fruit(pesticide risk)
      -Avocado(causes crows cardiac distress and heart failure)
      -Onions(Causes crows vomiting, diarrhea, other digestive problems)
      -Alcohol(watch your cocktails outside if crows are around! Crows seem to have no problems helping themselves to this, but it causes organ problems)
      -Mushrooms(causes crows digestive problems and possible organ failure)
      -Tomato leaves(TOXIC!!! For any living thing. DX)
      -Salt, salted food(can cause crows digestive problems, dehydration, kidney dysfunction, etc.)
      -Caffeine(same as chocolate)
      -Uncooked, raw beans(contains hemaglutin, toxic to birds. All beans must be thoroughly cooked)

    This one time in Georgia, I helped a baby bird who got separated from its mother. I returned it to its nest, since it couldn't fly yet. I was super careful to not touch it with my bare hands, using my jacket sleeves to hold it because I was afraid touching it would make the mother leave it. A few months later, I was playing outside and I heard chirping. Sure enough, when I found the source, I saw the baby bird all grown up in the place I first found it. It looked directly at me before bowing its head slightly and flying past me, leaving a feather. It was awesome ^^
