      What you talking about. This video gave us insight into how this whole thing is done. Through this in depth interview we learn that the world isn't black and white and we don't really have to play by the rules, it's possible to get away with certain things. We get to see the demeanor of an intelligent person, listen to the things that they would say and the way they respond to trick questions etc. This video isn't a waste of this it's super interesting and educational.

    Doing well on one test doesn't mean you will perform well on future tests. If you only got into a good college because you had a high SAT score and bad grades then the system is broken. Even if they got into a good college, it doesn't mean they will do well in their classes, and might get bad grades there. Which means they wasted their money to get there.

      SAT gives you money for school, if you score high enough. I've had a few friends score a few hundred points short of a perfect score, and they got almost full tuition (25k-30k). P sure if you got a perfect score or the score this guy was getting for people, wasting money isn't even a problem(cause the students probably got a full scholarship to almost any IVY league).

    The entire purpose of the SAT is to gauge how well a student will do in college. If those students who cheated are doing fine in those colleges, doesn't that say something about the SAT? These standardized tests are a ploy to make money, nothing more.

      @katelynbrown98 Před 7 lety +32

      ArcticAnDroid Well yea, but also, this guy admitted to cheating just 16 times, but he may have taken it more. I don't think those 16 kids are proud of themselves five years later, after they've probably finished college. And maybe they didn't finish, maybe they dropped out bc they realized college classes were too difficult. The SAT is definitely suppose to be more reflective of college exams than those you receive in hs. They have a validity and I don't see why everyone is blaming the system. Like wtf..you need an academic standard to be accepted into a higher education course!

      The SAT has nothing to do with college or life imo, it's just a measure of how good you are at taking standardized tests. I performed higher than several of my friends on the SAT, but I know for a fact that they are smarter than me and perform higher than me in most of my classes. Knowing how to answer the questions that the SAT asks doesn't teach you anything about life skills or the stress of college.

      +Kevin Le I think the problem is that the sat and just standardize tests in general are plain stupid. They ask you the most ridiculous questions that don't and never will apply to 99% of test takers lives; furthermore, is a student who studied 5 minutes before taking a test to remember some random fact more qualified than a student who spent 5 hours memorizing but didn't remember? School in general is a huge waste of time unless you are directly going to school to train for an exact job. When am I realistically going to use Pythagorean Theorem? When I get a job involving math? No and even if I did the resources of my time allow me to easily research it from almost anywhere on the Internet to refresh my memory yet I remember spending hours in school being tested on things like that. "You can't always rely on the Internet for everything" fuck you engineers spent their lives making the Internet as great as it is and it has become the single most useful learning device you sayicantuseit

    • @mochachino890
      @mochachino890 Před 8 lety +17

      Matthew Walters I'd counter that it's less about the result and more about the process. It's not that you'll be to apply the Pythagorean Theorem in real life, but you'll learn to think in different ways and be able to have the capacity to solve complex problems.
      Also, learning basic geometry and what not is just an application of the algebra that cements your understanding algebraic math in general. To say that algebra doesn't affect your field of learning would be incorrect.
      Once again, I see the same flaws in the SATs as you do, but until we have an efficient method to test the mental capacity of millions of students at one time... its, unfortunately, the best we have.

    • @RoyaLockz
      @RoyaLockz Před 8 lety

      Thomas Williams Nah, the SAT asks too many one dimensional questions (plug in numbers, basic sentence structure, etc) and doesn't test a lot of important skills that are useful to college students. Most good universities have mechanisms for gauging how good your score is relative to others in your high school.

      It's a type of test that people take and it's used to compare people. It can tell colleges what most people score and people who score high probably perform better.
      As far as community colleges I don't think the score matters at all. ACT and SAT aren't even hard tests. If they weren't timed, I bet most people would score really high.

    Most people don't realize that the SAT is a business, not some government issued test that legitimately analyzes skills of the test taker. It is run by the College Board, which is actually a company and not a "board". Their tests are designed in such a way that unless you are in the top 1% of geniuses, you cannot finish everything on the test in time. The scores you need to pass an AP test for instance are really strange. You can pass some of them with only getting 35-40% correct. Yet for all these tests, you are required to pay to take. And if you want to send these scores to a school, you're looking at 11$ extra per report. I think it's ridiculous that such a business is allowed to dominate the education system.

If you were told by your friends that a perfect test taker that takes the SATs all the time for kids so they can get the grades to be on the top picks of colleges so you don't end up working at McDonalds & you didn't have to take a several hour long bullshit test, why wouldn't you take that offer?
