FERME DU RAIL x PIONIRA

Julia Turpin, from Grand Huit in Paris, spoke to us about their project "Ferme du Rail", an ecological, social and architecturally ambitious project in the heart of Paris. Composed of mixed living for students and people from the street without permanent homes, a restaurant and a working garden, the site is used in a multi-layered system by various actors. Furthermore, neighbours can bring their green wastes to the farm.
Architecturally, the buildings and terrain link the farm to the "petite ceinture" of Paris, a former railway line running through the city. The timber and straw bale construction stands as a pioneer for making public, social projects with natural materials on a large and urban scale.
