Light Cavalry Overture (Overture to the operetta Leichte Kavallerie) by Franz von Suppé, played live by the Stadtkapelle Hermeskeil at our annual concert on 25.11.2023 in the Hochwaldhalle Hermeskeil. It is the first annual concert under our conductor Stefan Barth from Braunshausen.
Light Cavalry Overture by Franz von Suppé in an arrangement for symphonic wind orchestra by Henry Fillmore is the overture to the operetta Leichte Kavallerie. We have opened our concert with music from the second half of the 19th century, the first great period of European military wind orchestras. With the express permission of the composers, the bandmasters of the time arranged the music of their era for wind orchestra and thus brought it to the people. After the First World War, most military orchestras were disbanded and the first heyday of the wind orchestra came to an abrupt end.
