I ❤zinnia flowers, but they often end up with powdery mildew a lot sooner than later. Thank you for sharing your video!
Yes they do 😕 pruning bottoms can help as prevention, but If the weather is too rainy, most of the time they will get the mildew.
If you grow them in pots, it’s easier to control, as you can move them around as you need 🙂 Thank you very much for watching and taking time to leave a comment!

This is going to help so much with me starting with plants! Tysm! I will water at least once a day a little. I don’t have a watering can so I’d use a plastic water bottle with holes in the cap.

Thank you very much, I am happy you like it 😊
Great video and beautiful flower! So you planted multiple seeds in each pot, did you thin them out at all or let them grow together in same pot? Thanks!
Hello. Yes I I planted multiple (3-5) seeds and let them grow in clumps. This way they support each other.
Thank You very much! ☺🍀
👍👍👍
☺
Thank you, I was wondering if you could save the seeds.
I hope mine germinate this time. I hope. I hope. I hope.
🍀🌱
Are you growing seeds that were bought commercially or naturally grown? I will be growing store bought seeds this week for the first time - so I am also crossing my fingers!
😌👍🏽♥️✨🌸🌺🌼🇨🇦
@@ablanccanvas Yes ma am I bought them from the dollar store. And it's also hot and dry where I live. The cucumbers and zinnia are growing. I see green coming from the soil. Yes!
Love the video! Are you just planting 2 seeds together in the smaller pots? Can i also just use perlite and topsoil if i fertilize regularly?
Hello, it's about 3 seeds. Well, You can, though if the topsoil where You live is like here (loamy), after some watering/drying it will become hard and tough for plants to grow their roots in. Mix in some compost, Your plants will grow better 🙂
Thank You very much! 🍀
I didn't realize a small container was an option. If you don't mind sharing, what size containers were those & do you think giant varieties would work using this method? Thank you for sharing the information you've already shared in the video.
Hello, these pots are 17cm in diameter (6,7in) and 18cm in height (7in).
I would go for bigger containers for those. My ones were sometimes struggling to handle the wind. Especially when dry.
You can grow zinnias in small space, but if You want them to grow plenty of flowers for the whole season (f.e. for cutting), fertilizing is a must.
Thank you very much for watching 🙂
@@Liap thank you for taking the time to read my comment, reply, & share information. I appreciate it truly. May the growing season be good to you. Wishing you well & good harvests from the USA. 🙏🏽🌱
@@ThatLadyDray Thank You very much, wish you great growing season! All of them 🍀 All the best from Slovakia 🙂
Love the video! How many seeds did you put per hole?
Around 4 seeds.
Thank you very much! ☺
I just started seeding. After 2 nights, It show up tiny green. Huurr can't wait to see it;s flowers.
That sounds great! 👍🌸🍀
I was inspired by this video to grow Zinnias Thanks a lot! I have question how often to water new seeds?
Thank You very much! I am very glad You are!
You mean new seeds after planting them? Not much, just to keep the soil moist. Most likely You won't have to until they germinate. If You want to make sure You don't have to until that moment, use some plastic wrappings over them with tiny holes. That will keep the moisture in the soil.
I am surprised you did not thin them, but kept all the seedlings that germinated. It worked out well.
Hello, yes zinnia plants can be grown in clumps of 3-4 plants, but when growing in containers, they will require fertilizing in order to bloom vigororously.
Thank you very much! ☺
I’m surprised you didn’t mention “pinching “ the main stem to encourage more lateral growth. Still, mine tend to get very tall and fall over.
Hello, we have quite windy over here, I didn't want these plants to grow wider, they would be overthrown constantly in those small containers. Especially when they dry out.
Thanks for this soothing and calm video... Can we keep seeds for the next season? Will it remain good? And please tell me for how many seasons we can keep the seeds as I am going to order online and it will be 200-300 seeds but i dont have huge space for growing. So i am planning to save seeds. Will it be good for 2-3 yrs? I know i have asked some silly questions but i am new to plant flowers so please help me❤
Hello. Yes the seeds can be kept for next season. They will have good germination rate for about 2-3 years, then it can start decreasing over the next years.
Not silly questions at all! Feel free to ask anything related to growing plants, I will do my best to answer.
Thank You very much, I am very happy You like the video!
Thanks for the video, I'm going to try this now :) Question, do you think they will look nice in front of a hedge?
Definitely! They will make the hedge look more alive especially when all the bees will be attracted to their flowers.
Thank you very much for watching and taking time to leave a comment 🙂
Thank you for this video. I am starting zinnias from seed this year. What does pruning from the bottom mean?
Zinnias are very prone to mildew, especially when the ground is wet during night time and bottom leaves are first to "get sick" due to high humidity coming from the soil. Especially during spring and autumn when nights are still quite cold.
Thank you very much for watching!
@@Liap Thank you! I will try that this year.
Great video! Did you put 2-3 seeds in each pot?
Even more. 3-5 I think. Thank You very much! ☺🍀
Hope you can educate me on this. The more we water, the more the soil is hardened. How to deal with this. Hope there will be one video about pot soil maintenance.
Hello. I use garden lime. Just a handful can improve the soil structure. Be careful when using both, garden lime and wood ash, it's just a handful of each 🙂
Hi, Thanks for the video. What size pots are they in at full growth?
Hello. These pots are 17cm in diameter (6,7in) and 18cm in height (7in).
Loved this video! Thank you so much. Can't wait to start mine for the first time. What kind of fertilizer do you use?
I used balanced water soluble fertilizer and compost tea with zinnias. There are for sure better options for flowers, that are richer in phosphorus, but these worked well.
Zinnias are easy to grow and long-blooming, which makes them very rewarding plants to grow, I am sure you will find joy growing them🌻
Thank you very much!
🙂
@@Liap can you give the recipe for compost tea?
@@Aurrsa Bucket with compost and water 🙂 sometimes I add matured chikcen manure.
@@Liap - Do you use the mixture right away, or do you let it sit for a few hours or days before applying??
@@theresa94010 I use it right away, apologies for late response, I didn't get notice of Your comment.
Would you suggest clipping the tops when the plants are small to encourage more stems on one plant? I mean clip the tops as you do for tomatoes 🍅? TIA
Yes, You can do it that way 🙂 when they are around 15cm (6") tall.
How often do you water the zinnias after you plant the seeds? I love zinnias! They’re such happy flowers! ☺️🌺
Hello, I always check the soil. The smaller the pots the faster it dries out. On sunny days when blooming I was watering these 2 a day.
Yes zinnias are very rewarding to grow. So resilient and beautiful!
Hi,
I want to start annuals from seeds, but I'm not sure where to buy them ? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated ❤
Do you have to leave the flower on the stem to get seeds or can you clip a fresh one and let it dry out?
Hello. Well, You can harvest green seeds and dry them out, but make sure that each seed contains an embryo. You don't have to wait until they fully dry on plants.
What is the sprayer you used to water called? Great video, thank you!
Pressure sprayer, or as You called it - water sprayer 🙂
Thank You very much, I am glad You like the video! ☺🍀
Hi there I was expecting you to thin them! Do they like being crowded? Thanks so much
Hello there. Yes zinnias can be grown in clumps. They support each other that way in strong wind. They don't like being crowded though.
Fertilizing them regularly as in? How often???
Every 7-10 days
Did you have to thin them? Or did you just let them grow?
I did not thin them. Zinnias can be grown in clumps. Just prune the bottoms so they are not so easily infected with mildew, especially in spring and autumn.
Hi..so youre telling we can directly sow them in pots without separately making a seedling ..thanks.what would be the potsize though?
Yes, absolutely! Especially if You grow zinnias in clumps. That way they support each other.
The container size depends on the amount of plants in it. Zinnias can grow in quite small containers well, but will grow more vigorously if You give them more space.
You said their heavy feeders so when do I fertilize my zinnias? I just sowed the seeds a few days ago
When they start to produce flowers. I mean You can start anywhere from transplanting with lower concentration and gradually increase. But zinnias become heavy feeders when they start to grow flowers. That would be the point, when to start feeding them, especially if You want to be cutting flowers, for more frequent growth of new flowers.
You don’t cut them to make them “bushier” and possibly grow a few flowers instead of one stem?
Hello, when grown in garden or larger containers, yes. But in small pots like these I don’t cut them. We have quite windy over here and they would be turning over. Small pots are very prone to turn over, especially when they dry out.
I planted too many in the same pot and they’re growing tall but no flowers yet. Can I thin them out or is it too late?
Yes, You can thin them. How many is too many and what is the container size?
I love Zinnias too! I just bought about 7 packets of seeds...I will (I assume) have to plant them next month in May in order to see flowers by July.....what size pots did you use ? Thanks for the video.
I do too! You can save the seeds and you'll have an endless supply every year! The seeds are numerous and a lot of fun to harvest and save!
@@timothyacademy1372 What size pots did you plant the seeds in ?
@@patrickbowen5398 You can put them in any pot just as long as you have at least 6-8" depth. I put them in my 12" hanging planters, but you can put them literally in any size pot. Hope that helps.
@@patrickbowen5398 Hello, that sounds like a lot of flowers 🌺🌼
These pots are 18cm deep and also 18cm in diameter (7inches). As Mr. Timothy replied, you can grow zinnias in pretty much any size and shape pots or planters, as long as they are at least 15cm (6in) deep, but remember if you are going to grow them in small space, you will have to fertilize them in order to create so many flowers.
Thank you very much for watching and taking time to leave a comment 🙂
@@timothyacademy1372 That's absolutely right, even one plant can produce enough seeds for small flower garden for next year.
Thank you for participating in comment section 💚
Can you please suggest the best online website to buy flower seeds
What is the pot size and how many plants you grow in a pot
I grew 3-5 plants per pot. These pots are 4.1l (1.1gal)
Ty. Great video. Did you water from t h e top & bottom?1😉👍❤
Both, especially during hot summer days 🥵
Thank you!
@@Liap Thank y for your reply!😉👍❤
Hi! Which seed brand are you planting? I couldn't see it! thank you!
Hello, I am not sure, honestly. The seeds were from supermarket and not garden shop. There is "qualitty seeds gartenland" on the back side 😐
