@darksyde3000 we were not shielddropping or asdi'ng down (especially out of walk) in 2013. just those two things are massive defensive changes in the past few years shielddropping literally changed how we viewed melee. being stuck on a platform used to be bad, now sheik lives on platforms and marth/fox get such good openings descending from or attacking into plats buffering inputs was rare ccing was much rarer and not nearly as utilized

I know there's some drama brewing rn, but honestly I love how positive and friendly the overall top level melee community is. Everyone is laughing, having a good time, and joking around with eachother all the time! All while not losing the ability to flip a switch and play to win for tournament. Honestly such an amazing example for newer or lower level players. Couldn't be happier with the melee scene right now

PPMD who hasn't played competitively for 6 years at this point more or less even with flavour of the month IBDW and yet I get ridiculed when I say Armada would stroll back in to the top level of the competitive scene. Nobody wants to admit it but the reason your axes and your amsas are winning tournaments is that the top level has dropped off since the great filter retired. Even Mango is winning majors again.
You can see why "Marthritis" was a common term back then. Punish game was not optimized and so many dropped edge guards. Still more fun to watch then Kodorin's Marth though. I don't know what it is but it just looks weird watching him play Marth.

Modern meta vs current meta is in most cases largely an illusion. Almost everything that was peak in 2013 is still super effective now.
