- The Steam Deck OLED released fairly recently and I haven't had a chance to talk about it until now. So this has lead me to think...is the Steam Deck OLED really worth it? Everyone is allowed to be wrong. OLED users are just cooler and last longer in bed then LCD users.

A guy that doesnt own OLED deck tells us that it doesnt woth it LOL... You just calming yourself so that you wouldnt need to spend moey on it...
It’s probably the biggest mid gen upgrade a console has ever had. OLED. HDR. Better battery. 90hz. More responsive touch screen. Around 10% performance upgrade. Better thumb sticks. Don’t think any console ever has mid gen had such a significant upgrade. Maybe the Xbox one to One X but even then I don’t think it was as significant.
I was so annoyed by the LCD’s black light bleed that I avoided playing dark games. I feel like I unlocked 75% of my Steam library. And the battery and temps are such a huge improvement. For me definitely an upgrade.
ive been looking for new headphones in able to hear directional audio in escape from tarkov and other games, and i found beyer dynamic dt990 pros but i am seeing videos that i need a seperate device (amp i think?) to get them at full power, but my budget is 250. what do i get
I've done the OLED upgrade and I think it was worth it. However, I use my Steam Deck away from an outlet and I like that I'm getting a noticeable improvement in battery life. The screen is just a straight up improvement though, no two ways about it. Inky blacks and for the titles that support HDR it's pretty impressive. It doesn't make your LCD worthless, but it is nice. If it's not a financial stretch for you and you can sell or repurpose your LCD unit, it's a great upgrade.
It's quieter too, but that's not a huge deal to me as I usually use mine with BT headphones so I never really heard the fan before.

LCD at 60hz is a night and day difference between 90hz oled. the upgrade is 100% worth it
I think you don't realize one of the main benefits of the 90hz display. In the OG decks default settings the display cannot frame limit to frame-rates between 30-40 fps. when a game cannot handle a stable 40fps being able to lock at 32,33,34,35,36,37,38,39 fps feels substantially better than locking games at 30 fps. the 90 hz display lets you do 32fps/64hz 33fps/66hz 34/68hz 35/70hz...... 45/90htz etc. so you can get really smooth stable performance while feeling much better than 30. even 30fps/90hz feels substantially smoother due to the frame tripling that it now does.
Its a big improvement for immersion for example if u like to play alot of horror games or games in daek settings thos oled is a most compared to the last model.
Dude, you needed to spend time with the OLED in your hands before making this video. The OLED is a substantial upgrade, and not just for the screen.
The OLED Steam Deck is my first Steam Deck. I'm happy! I don't really use it often to play games on it natively tho.

U can save the money and just keep the 1tb with multiple sd cards I returned my 2TB for this reason and bought 3x512gb Black Friday sale w already having a 1tb sd card
As a CZcamsr, you should get the OLED so you can properly determine if the hype is warranted.
Full disclosure: I sold my LCD and bought the OLED. It's better than I thought it would be.
The battery alone is worth it if you have the money.
Battery life alone is the upgrade for me. You tack on oled, faster charging, download speed, and etc i can say without a doubt you are bugging.
they completely redesigned the inside of the new deck gamers nexus did a full teardown. I would disagree and say its worth it. and 90hz

Man, this video sounds like a huge cope.
TechSpaceCowboy made an extremely similar video like this one, "talking himself" out of grabbing it, repeating multiple times it wasn't worth grabbing as he felt it was being "overhyped" and the OG was good enough. You know what happened? He broke down, ended up buying it, and you know what else? He did a complete 180 on his previous opinions and absolutely loves the Steamdeck OLED.
I think videos like this one are unwarranted as they aren't that informative, especially since the device being talked about isn't even there to compare to in the video. How do you know it's not worth it if you don't even have it? The answer - you don't.
Easier answer or video script would have been, "Year plus update on the Steamdeck since I've not done one in a while. Still really enjoying my original Steamdeck, more so to the point of doing a couple upgrades for QoL improvements. Here they are (show in video), I've spent a bit on these though so I can't feasibly grab the new OLED device right now. Priorities you know..." Maybe could have even delved into the recent firmware update that tries to mitigate the FOMO feeling you may have been having. Don't take this comment the wrong way though, I still enjoy the random rambling of Steamdeck anything I guess. Just felt de ja vu from another CZcamsr that went down the same road you did.
Mild advice - sell your current model to offset the OLED model cost, grab the OLED ($550 one), give us an "update" video about it...

Sell your old deck for 200 to 300 and financie the upgrade imho. If you take the old deck sale into account its a massive upgrade and well worth 300ish dollars
Bouta do this very soon lol. I justify it as practically paying for the new oled screen + better wifi/bt + new quiet fan = that $300 spent w/o having to open up it up and free nm upgrade for thermals.

Bro the upgrade is better than what other big gaming tech company’s do for a mid cycle refresh. Buy the oled because it’s different to just talk about it then actually have it in your hands. I have both OLED and LCD steam decks and I’m keeping them. Just don’t downplay that valve upgraded their hardware how consumers were asking for when other company’s don’t put in the effort and want just your money.
What do you plan to do with the LCD? Debating keeping both myself.
@@davidjratcliffe planning to keep both. I wish I also kept my lcd switch. Oled willl be my main but lcd is back up here and there. It’s a 64gb w 512gb card - oled LE is 1tb w 1tb card. LE is etched and LCD is glossy so it’s nice to have both. If I try to sell now, I will lose money since the market is down bad for steam decks
Agreed. I think with the influx of sellers and the limited time deal on the 64GB model the deck has low resale value rn.
