    The Steam Deck OLED is an improvement in almost every single way when compared to the original Steam Deck, or the Steam Deck LCD. Valve has taken everything that I personally had an issue with as well as other people and fixed it. There are some issues in the grand scheme of things, but overall it's an improvement on every front. And after having this for a few weeks, I'm happy to say that it's blown me away.
    In terms of power, I'm still going to stick with the ROG Ally and Legion Go. But, if I can find a game that runs well on the Steam Deck, then I'll stick with the OLED whenever possible. It's also an emulation beast, so I'm happy with that when it comes to playing retro titles.

So i went on to steam and discovered a new model. Spent 5 hours reading reviews, watching videos on both. Great video, I see you're a bit of a handheld geek. This will be my first handheld since PSP. I ordered it on Friday, it should be here before the end of the week. Of course, after I bought my steam deck, I started looking and comparing between ROG and SD. I honestly didn't realize there were multiple handhelds in competition.
    I'd like to know your opinion. Which screen is better between the 2? Do you prefer having 120hz and 1080p or OLED with the more vibrant colors? I dont do many side scrollers, but I also dont play extremely graphically intense games. And I don't care much about graphics on a handheld, if I want top tier graphics I'll use my PC. The 2 games I play that are close to AAA would be RDR2 and Diablo 4. And I'll be totally satisfied playing those games on low graphics. Do you think the Steam Deck is fine to handle titles like that without being choppy?
    I've pretty much made up my mind with minor buyers remorse that I'll keep the SD when it comes and wait until they release the ROG 2 if I'm looking to upgrade sometime in the next year. I'm still on the edge of considering returning the Steam Deck and just going for the ROG. Is there that big of a difference? I feel like for somebody like me it's somewhat negligible differences, but then again, there's the side of me that wants the best thing available. I'd appreciate your input since you have both consoles. 😊

    • @cherdnad2630

      If you're not playing much AAA, go with the deck. ROG has bad battery life. Kinda defeats the purpose of being a handheld. Go with ROG if you're always close to a socket or always carry a powerbank. The stronger chipset is more futureproof.
      Or just wait for next gen and hope it has better price:performance ratio. Asus might release Ally 2 this year.

    You don't need VRR support with 90 Hz. You get most of its benefits by leaving the display at 90 Hz and disable Vsync as well as allow tearing. At high refresh rates the tear lines are essentially invisible

    • @TheTraveler980
      @TheTraveler980 Před 4 měsíci

      @@Thornskade Then what does?

    • @Thornskade
      @Thornskade Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@TheTraveler980 Screen tearing happens when the display and GPU do their work independently from one another. The GPU puts images in the buffer which the display reads from. When the image in the buffer is replaced while the display is in the middle of rendering it, it will start rendering the remaining parts of the new image in the buffer. The difference of the previous frame and the new frame being displayed at the same time is a visual tear
      At 60 Hz this is more of a problem, but at 90 Hz the display refreshes quickly enough that the tear lines don't stay long enough to be noticeable outside of edge cases. On the Steam Deck, say there's a game where you're looking at a column of horizontal lines and moving the camera up and down, that would make tears visible even at very high refresh rates, but this is simply not a very common type of imagery in video games and not worth worrying about

    • @TheTraveler980
      @TheTraveler980 Před 4 měsíci

      @@Thornskade So basically, the display and GPU should be similar in spec and work in-sync, and a higher refresh rate (not frame rate) makes it less noticeable anyway.

      @@HairyVR I run most of my games at 720p for better battery and now I can play any game 3-4 times longer and with hd. Instead of being plugged in majority of the time. I could just get a gaming laptop

      @@Kix444 okay I guess but I own both handhelds. There’s more of an advantage owning a windows machine including better refresh rate better processor to run games in general. The other comparisons. I’ve been seeing is mostly just steam fanboys already made up their minds. Just buying into the hype instead of actual specs.

    They should've did it the first time i could never buy the first and for minimal changes buy a second of the same device. No thanks time to try something new. Akai did this with the live2 and the One+ and the Mpc X se... big money grabs.

    Up against the Ally the SD is just trash. In almost every single way.

      Nah. The Ally's biggest advantages are it's chipset and Windows OS. And the latter is a double sided sword.
