in 2018, asus did an experiment by introducing (asus zenfone max pro m1) a mid range bang for the bucks with near stock androids.
it was so well received by the Asia/India/Southeast asia market that they made a decision to do near stock android on their flagships now.
Everything the consumer ever asked for, its in Zenfone 6.
big battery, notchless screen, good camera hardware (although not so good at the software department), LCD screen for no burn-in and low production cost, near stock android, 3.5mm jack, stereo speakers, led notifications.
they listened to their customers and was rewarded handsomely on it.

It's lazy and poor software engineering. It is so barebone and literally has no features exclusive to itself... not to mention it's not the prettiest either. Most of post-Android L features are either stolen from Samsung or Apple with some little changes here and there.
I understand the appeal of Stock Android Pre-Android L era as it was smooth as hell and other versions are bloated as fuck.
Now? Not really. Samsung One UI, for example, is full of good features, and still smooth as fuck. Back then, we were limited by 1GB or 2GB ram. Now phones have 6 to 12GB of ram. Speed is no longer an issue. The only thing pairing back custom OS is creativity.

Exactly, if it works well, the camera can track things like cars or people while you hold the phone still. That would provide *much* smoother panning and tracking shots.
      Auto panorama sounds very promising.
Adjusting the camera angle separately from the screen angle would greatly improve video-calling.
Who knows what else people will come up with for apps for it.
Very short sighted to dismiss it so quickly.
People complain *so much* that each phone is the same as the previous model with tiny tweaks. People complain so much that there's no innovation, and when something innovative is made, it's too expensive, like the folding phone. But here's innovation. Here's a new idea to solve an actual problem, *and* introduce new features at the same time. It looks like a great implementation, too.

I think they're even based on value. ASUS has storage expansion, headphone jack, and a lower price. However, OP7's display is arguably the best display out there right now and their approach to the front-facing camera seems more reliable along with more storage on the base model. Emphasis on the screen because that, what I believe, is the most important part of a phone in this day and age. Of course, battery life is important too. But honestly, most phones nowadays can last 1-1.5 days on a full battery, including both of these phones. I think what matters more is the recharge rate at this point, something the OP7 has the upper hand in.
I believe it comes to a person's budget. If you can afford the OP7, go for it. If you can't Zenfone it is.

Better than the OnePlus 7 (not the Pro one, as that's in another price league) in my opinion. Here are my reasons why I think so:
For $500, it's cheaper than the OP7. (Also consider that in some regions, only the Pro is available.)
    A microSD card slot
    A 3.5mm jack
A larger battery (by quite a bit)
    No notches/obstructions
Better front cameras, as the rear ones are used.
I'm recommending this as *the* phone to get at $500, if it's available at that price in your region.

That being said, it is far better for being sneaky to have a tiny moveable camera than to lift up the entire phone and point it at someone.
Also, because this phone is relatively unknown, I'd say it's pretty likely that nobody will know you're even using a camera. So you're probably right - you could definitely get away with a lot more secretive recording.

@King Wiwuz IV one plus 7 has an oled screen and ufs 3.0. Not to mention that oxygen os is quite amazing for many people. Also, I'm surprised by OP7's indisplay fingerprint sensor this time

@@abhinavraj1885 Zenfone is still a better deal tho, you can't really deny that. I feel like Oneplus 7/7 pro are more gimmicky with unnecessary things nowadays and they took away what really matters and hiking the prices for those gimmicks. I personally, think indisplay fps are just a plus and not really necessary. Fps on the back works just as fine and if not, even faster. if anything you'll just have more fingerprint smudges to clean on the front display with the indisplay fps everytime you unlock. Whilst the Zenfone 6 Is cheaper, Zen UI 6 is very stock looking, has a headphone jack, bigger battery, shoots 4k 60fps with eis selfies (no other phones do this), fast laser autofocus, notchless (compared to the normal OP7), dedicated triple slots for dual sims and a micro sd expansion and reverse charging.

Much like that Playstion Vita, the change to LCD screen extends battery life and lowers cost. Pair that with the huge battery and I can see 2 days usage. I also almost never take selfies. I'm sure I'm not alone on that.
