    I only played the GameCube version before new horizons. I was so overwhelmed with how much control and power I had. I just reset and I am not terraforming and I’m letting villagers auto fill. I have had more fun with this new island. Definitely recommend.

    I'm doing a no terraforming/no custom design island and it's honestly been the best thing I've done! It's just me, the in-game paths, and whatever patterns Sable gives me.

    I have a "no terraforming island" as my original one. I picked out a map that I knew would be the perfect one, sat on the decision for a long time with my first four maps, chose it, and it's been perfect since. The only terraforming I did was to slightly widen a river for a bridge I wanted diagonal. Aside from that and one small waterfall, it's been no terraforming. I'd definitely recommend it for a lot of people. Most people talk about terraforming, but it can be nice to work with your island's natural shape, I know it was for me. I mostly did no terraforming due to having really bad OCD that causes me a lot of difficulties when decorating my island as I get bad anxiety about changing things up, but I do have another two islands that have some terraforming and the other is entirely terraformed. It can be a nice experience, remove stress, and some of the natural cliffs look better than what I could ever create. I highly recommend it if someone is struggling with terraforming or is unsure if they can do it. It takes a lot of stress out of the game, but if you are someone who has never terraformed before and do it, it can leave you feeling as though you're missing out. I know I've tried to terraform just to feel like I can relate to other ACNH players, a big reason why I'm terraforming on my other islands. But for my main island? It isn't for me and that's perfectly fine. To each your own, but I always suggest really thinking about what would make you the happiest. Can you imagine yourself thriving on a no terraforming island, a somewhat terraformed island, or a fully flattened island? Which one makes you feel the best when you envision it? And if you can't choose, start with no terraforming as then if you don't like it, you can just change it. While if you started with terraforming, you probably can't get the original back. And last tip! If you do decide to terraform, I suggest taking a couple clear pictures of what you are terraforming so you have a reference if you ever want to reverse what you did.
    If anyone wants to visit my no terraforming island, the dream address is right here: DA-2196-4403-6843. Just in case perhaps another no terraformed island is good for reference. Some areas are incomplete and especially since it's been a month or so since I last updated it so some has changed as well, but the majority of it is done and usually any changes are small. Whatever you decide to do with your islands, I hope it makes you the happiest. Enjoy the game whatever way you want, it's your game, your purchase, so play it the way you want

    I got overwhelmed with my first island, said to myself this is a hot mess and restarted in June 2021. This time I vowed not to terraform until the island is at least a year old. I shaved a slight bit off a cliff in the back so that I could access Redds beach and then I knocked a bit from a river in order to place a bridge down but that was it. I love this island so much better!

    I have to be honest, out of the 30+ islands that I have created, my no-terraforming island was the most fun I've had with the game in a long time! I can really only recommend trying it! if it doesn't work out for you, you can still flatten and do something else, but giving it a shot is definitely worth it

  • @meowyuni

    I love this challenge because my problem (with the dozen times I've restarted) 💀 is that I try to make a cool theme and get overwhelmed or stuck, and once I start terraforming, I get so stressed out and end up hating my island and impulsively restarting. I think the only solution is to not terraform at all and just work with in-game paths so it's not so stressful. Not everyone is capable of making those incredible Pinterest islands and I shouldn't feel bad about it! I named my new island "Paradise" (the BTS song) so it can be MY safe space. This game is supposed to be relaxing 💜

    Ugh. You described exactly what happened to me. I flattened, then couldn’t re-terraform to that magnitude, so I completely restarted it. Never again. If I touch any of the terraforming tools, it’ll be few and far between. I learned my lesson!

    I like the concept that the base layout is already set, with no terraforming. I've been on my new island for a few months now, and I haven't even moved most of the original trees! It helps me get creative to think of how to include the entire natural landscape (trees included) into my designs.

  • @Maksie0
    @Maksie0 Před 2 lety +8

    I ended up on a sort of middle-of-the-road solution where I did terraform some of my island but never flattened the whole thing, I mostly stuck to the original layour and just changed some relatively minor things.

  • @vanyadolly
    @vanyadolly Před 2 lety +6

    They can be a bit flat, but I actually much prefer the open, natural look of islands that aren't overly terraformed. Many of them come off looking so over-manicured and crowded that you lose the sense of tranquility that's supposed to come with being close to nature in the game.

  • @katet8639
    @katet8639 Před 2 lety +8

    My biggest regret was flattening my island and tbh I didnt evn wanted to flatten. I got recommended to do it, but after I did, I can't get it anywhere and since 2020 I'm still stuck with an unfinished garbage island that gives me stress. I don't want to restart though because I like my villagers and I already did many HHP Homes with 2.0.

  • @craftly_Bixie
    @craftly_Bixie Před 2 lety +5

    That is a nice reasoning. I have kept more than 80% of my original island as I wanted to have a sunken part in the back of my island (farm and museum) and I am so happy how this turned out. I nudged a river flow as I wanted to create an island park. All other things I kept of my original island as I loved the river flow and especially the big waterfalls.

    I always get so burnt out whenever I try and do all the different themes (I tried doing forestcore for my last island and it got so draining) so, as soon as the snow's gone, I'm restarting my island completely and it's going to be 100% a no terraforming island! I'm only going to touch the terraforming tool to get the miles

  • @valencia_oranges88

    Oh yeah the con of losing your progress to reset to get the vanilla island back... I'm happy with my new island of minimal terraforming but I had a year's worth of progress and diys on the old one.... oh well lol, I still did it! and you are right, it's really hard to make the original cliffs and rivers yourself, and so much work

    My winter city island Havencrest was a no terraforming island and it was finished quite quickly because most of my time while building an island is spent waterscaping and terraforming which I obviously didn't do on this island. Havencrest was a townbuild and a no terraforming island with a city build is a challenge that I wouldn't recommend. Although after seeing your progress and final result of Offline, I'm definetely inspired to do a more natural no terraforming island in the future and I will definetely keep your pros and cons in mind.
