afaik one of the main things that influence stability is the friction between floor and stand, this should be as high as possible to prevent the stand moving laterally at all. thats why the sharp original feet are so effective, very high pressure per square inch onto concrete = no slip. whatever you do is making the system less safe...

True. I have had others say to cut the base off leaving just 4 squares one for each corner. Then will have most but not all of the stability back but still protect the floor some.

At first glance I was thinking maybe a 2" x 2" metal coupon welded at the center of each of the 4 corners to disperse the point load. Would be a lot better than just relying on the carpet which I imagine will just eventually flatten out and become ineffective. Plus you're gaining a little wider stance to help prevent the rocking.

I agree. I think I will use my plasma torch to cut them and just leave a square in each corner. Who know? I didn't think it would cause any issue as some of the very best most trusted tub & pin jack stands have square flat bottoms just like what I added.

Instead of carpet you may want to consider the material used in drawers to keep stuff from slipping around...give you much more grip and prevent side to side motion.

Great idea! I have some extra that I used for my tool boxes. If this carpet give me any problems I will switch it over. Thanks.

Carpet would seem pretty slippery on that type of flooring. What about those spray on rubber coatings? I think Plasti-dip has one for tools.
