5 + 5 + 4 + 5 = 19 again I'm so close, and again it's with etiquette. I constantly find myself interrupting players or going a bit overboard on explaining rules or bringing up subjects long past discussion that slows down the game.

Storytelling: 2 or 3 (I haven't been a player in a really long time but I do remember struggling a bit in this regard)
Gaming: 4 (I get annoyed when people waste time in this area but helping others with rules is touchy)
Etiquette: 3 or 4 (I get distracted fairly easily but I do my best to not distract others. I bring food occasionally, but usually we stop to eat)
Chemistry: 3 (Everyone in my groups has struggled with group decision making and developing story together)
Avg. score around 13, which feels about right to me.

I've only played one tabletop session, a pickup game during a con. But I have played plenty of video-games. From those, I've figured that I like being in a group and I want to back everyone up. So for D&D I want to be a Cleric or maybe a Druid, I like casting spells to keep the party alive, powering them up when I can, but I want to be able to take a few hits. I don't have any of the books, I've just gathered some information from various sources, you're definitely a big one. Give me a few minutes and I'll learn the major parts of whatever class you want me to play. If I were to become part of a regular group, I'd bring beer. I'd bring good beer so there's that at least.

  • @Kevoman01
    @Kevoman01 Před 4 lety +1

I wanted to mark down what I believe I have.
S - 5. It's easily my best trait, if I could push this beyond, it's an easy 7-8. Although it becomes a problem when I get too into my character's ideals, which ends with me getting IRL mad at my party members for decisions I don't like.
G - 5. I know the rules well, and know when to chime in, and I always keep my spell app open for the others.
E - 3-4. I have some trouble keeping my eyes on the game, and I often talk over others by mistake, but then let them go when I realize that, and we host at my house, so food is almost always provided by myself.
C - 3-4. Obv this will change as I find a new group, but for now, it's pretty good. Once I have my moments, I try to move the spotlight to the others, and I am generally a team player (unless I play a character who isn't.)
Level 16. I took the lower of the latter half just for humbleness, I need to become better by coming to decisions easier with the group, and keep my attention to the game a little better.

Oh how I hated self evaluation back in school :P Here we go.
Story telling: 3,5 to 4? I engage in conversation, trying to get into character as often as works with my group and have my wizard keep a diary which we use as recap at the beginning for each session and it also serves as a meter for his character development.
Gameplay: 1 Sadly I am still that guy. Read the book, know a bunch of stuff but as soon as combat starts you can find me under a pile of notes and books looking stuff up.
Etiquette: 4 I host at my home, provide a clean environment, offer tea but I have patience issues at times.
Chemistry is good in my group but I would not place a number on it.

Storytelling - 4.5/5, since it is very dependant on the DM and other players to jump to 5. I progressed the fastest in that field. Yet I tend to write complicated stuff for oneshot characters. Plus, no character ever develops as I planned - not that I mind. 😎
Gameplay - 3/5, since I tend to struggle with certain rules or character classes. Yet when I understand them or do not require much rules, I tend to play very fast. 🧐
Etiquette - 4/5. I will make it my personal mission to be on time regardless of what I have to postpone, even if I end up there 45 min too soon. My attention can fluctuate, but when I'm invested, I _am_ invested. I could contribute more, but we tend to each already have everything we need anyways, so... 😂
Chemistry - 2/5. We are not very organised, and there's some big solo players at the table. We do have each other's backs, but we are not coordinated. Each one of us does their action. I could fix this by just communicating better with some, but we often enf up following one "plan" from a leader-type player or just following NPC suggestions. Definitely my weakest spot. 😪
    And there we go. 😊

I'm not objective here but I'll try.
*Storytelling: 5* - This is what I'm the best at. Although I still have ways to go. I think I have the hardest time connecting with other PCs and NPCs but it depends on other players as well and usually campaigns don't last long enough to form strong bonds.
*Gaming: 4* - What can I say. I'm not an encyclopedia of knowledge but I try to remember relevant rules to my character.
*Etiquette: 4* - I'm often 15 minutes late (but as well like everyone) and I'm trying to always bring snacks or drinks but I'm poor. Also, I'm self conscious about my hygiene a bit because (practically) I don't have a sense of smell so I don't know if I stink.
*Chemistry: 3* - About this much with the current group (so far).
    *Total Level: 16*
    Not bad I think.

Chemistry- avg 4 (of course this varies but I get along with people well, respect boundries and love playing through other characters story arcs.)

  • @arlaxazure486
    @arlaxazure486 Před 4 lety +13

Storytelling: 5 (I'm really proud how far I've come)
Gaming: 4 (Gotta work on speeding up when using unique abilities...)
Etiquette: 5 (GOOD GOD I really need to show some players these...)
Chemistry: 1 (I can always respect boundaries no matter what group I'm in, the rest depends on the group. I'm petty like that)
Minimum level: 15!! Woot!! But in all seriousness, I'm more than happy to be where I am. In fact, I think I'm kinda higher up the ladder than I would usually think. With the group I'm in, I'm hardly the slowest when it comes to acting on my turn. In fact, I'd argue I'm one of the fastest because I'm not asking 3 different things for defining/bending the rules for every possible action I'd like to think up of. I just need to quickly check personal notes when my turn rolls around and a sudden bright idea strikes me, or review how a magic item works when I remember it's in my possession. I'm one of those players that's actually happy to just say "I swing with my sword, and my turn ends" because I'm out of ideas but I get to watch someone else unfurl theirs.
For the love of all things holy and unholy alike, PLEASE don't put Etiquette as you "dump stat". I cannot tell you the number of times entire games and campaigns I've witnessed collapse because some doofus decided they would much rather have Payday running in the background than participate in a group plan of action, only to say "What do you want me to do?" like a catchphrase. They don't have fun, the party doesn't have fun, the GM won't have fun- Uhg! Just *pay attention* and worm your way into the game if you have to. If you don't want to- then just play a video game and don't sign the social contract, please.

Ahhhh yes. the wonders of hygiene.
One of the few reasons why I find myself at times thinking I am blessed with a hindered sense of smell. But seriously though, sometimes I can also tell just by looking that you are not up to date on it. Even if I can say I'm not up to date on it myself (Even if I am able to justify myself, which I won't)
Seriously though, one major other thing I have to say is try to be welcoming to and help anyone who is hindered normally by their problems or anxiety or something along those lines. Not only are some people not exactly good with strangers, but also there are some people out there (Including myself) who have something up with them that may hinder them at times if not address. I, for example, am a new DnD player learning the ropes and am attending the Adventurer's League to learn as a player (Since IRL I don't have any friends to play with) and online as a DM... but I am selectively mute, and unfortunately this is a great hindrance in the Adventurer's League, as this means I have to bring my laptop and use either another player or text-to-speech to communicate. This sucks, as a lot of people loathe someone in their game or at their table who cannot speak to anyone they have not known and gotten comfortable with for a long time, so it took forever to even find a group willing to take me in. And I still feel nervous. But to be fair, I have only played in the AL for only 2 sessions and recently gotten my Kenku Ranger to level 3.
But you all never know. Perhaps behind that bump in the road, nobody wants to cross is a diamond in the rough. Give them a chance, will ya? Now if you excuse me, I'll just hide back in the bushes next to Morning Wood.
Edit : Before anyone asks, I didn't do the assessment myself because while I can in theory judge myself, it might be bad to do that personally. So I'll let someone else be the judge.

Storytelling - 4 or 5 (Current character lacks much of an arc in one game)

    My Scores
Storytelling: 5 - My characters grow, change and tend to gain abilities related to their personalities. Often times I try to have a backstory connection to at least one party member.
Gaming: 4 - An odd four I do attempt to help others with the rules however I have a tendency to get into arguments with game masters about abilities or when I notice inconsistencies in rulings. I do help other players with rules.
Etiquette: 3 - I tend to be clean and on time and give warning if I can't make the game, however I can easily drift off when scenes focus on areas I'm weak in. If we have a party face who does all the talking I am very likely to start focusing on my spells or what i'm going to do next level rather than keep focused on what's going on.
Chemistry: I am in a few games so as it goes
Luck of Heroes: 5, this game was my longest running game and our characters fit very well, stuck together, played off of eachother and all around had a great sort of chaotic cohesion
Curse of Strahd: 1, Same group as Luck of heroes, one character picked the same class [paladin] as our previous leader and is very heavily overplaying being inexperienced and glory seeking, a newer player has no presence [is new] and just supports the paladin blindly, myself and the warlock work together trying to play smart which is foiled by the paladin, our ranger and warrior are wild cards.
War for the crown: 1, not for lack of trying but my war for the crown game has a clear leader and we mostly just let them push the story due to a very powerful force of personality. We like eachother and try to have eachother's back but despite the force of personality our leader has our tactics fall apart and wildcard all over the place.
Homebrew, End of the Cycle: 5, game's just a blast, we have eachother's backs, play off eachother, we laugh, we prop eachother up it's amazing.
Homebrew, Echoes of Fate: 4, Group's great but some people fall too into their characters [myself included] and it can cause bumps and drama where there shouldn't be.
Homebrew, Rise from the ashes: 3, This is my group and the main issue is an oversized group [7] which makes it hard to give everyone a moment to shine. Group still has a blast but some people get left out because of group size.

Always good to see you helping the new players and reminding some of us older players.
As a DM and player the one thing that I try to encourage (this is where I disagree with you) is the use of voices for player characters. Mainly because it helps players to differentiate between in and out of game activity. Also, it helps to immerse them into the game.... and let's face it, sometimes it's just damed funny.
P.s. Bringing snacks is rather high on the importance scale.... a Hungry DM is an Angry DM

I think... I'm about level 13-15. I started playing around two years ago with a group of friends. Hygiene is never an issue, scheduling is ok, but we have had to call it a few times. We're USUALLy present, but distractions can happen XD .. It has certainly been an entertaining ride!
I am playing an Aasamir Paladin in a Pathfinder campaign and while there was an existing backstory between two of the characters (A catfolk 'psychic investigator' who is our party face and a tengu druid), I've found a place as our Catfolk's backup. That is to say - when he starts floundering for what to say, I back him up and lend credibility to his words and our cause. I've also had fun discovering my character - a follower of Iomedae - has religious differences with other LG religions. I particularly liked one section of the campaign where we temporarily allied ourselves with a LE character and the party looked at me as if expecting her to lob her head off. Fact was, my character had no reason to distrust her at that point, knowing she was on the lawful side, and that a detect motive revealed she was being level with us, I agreed (As long as we had the same goals) to work together. Secretly, I was thinking that as soon as our goal was achieved I'd be highly on guard and looking for back stabbery, but until that time, I was satisfied we'd struck an airtight bargain and was completely relaxed around her. But no, we achieved our goal, rescued the NPC we were looking for, and she wanted to have a talk with him. My character was the ONLY one willing to give them face time without suspecting her of anything... after all, why go through all the bother of saving his ass only to kill him? So far, no treachery, but we may have to go against Miss Hugbox (She had spike armor) in a future part of the quest... I wonder if I can convince her to become LN....

Chemistry below 3 might as well pick up another hobby.
Etiquette and chemistry are mvps, gameplay and storytelling skills is a nice bonus.
Depending on what type of campaign is ran, storytelling or gameplay may swap rankings.
That said, if chemistry and etiquette are above 2, then big scores in gameplay and story can still make for great games, but the other way around, it will meerly be a nice hangout where the game doesn’t become so much.
    As a player I’d say
    S 3

    E 5
    C 4
I’m working on getting better at story and gameplay, as both happens to be related to my IRL occupation, but as it’s difficult to find games, studying these things only takes me so far.

Alright let's see how I do as a player.
Storytelling: 3. Bad at backstory and story arcs. I make simple, basic backgrounds and just kind of go with the flow of the adventure. This is largely due to the fact that I don't want the character spotlight however and not a lack of ability on my part.
Gameplay: 5. Not even a question at this point in my 18+ years of experience and 15+ in teaching new players how to play various games and systems.
Etiquette: 3. I have adhd so sometimes I just can't focus on the game and can be distracting. I do try not to be, and I think my fellow players should get a bonus point here for being accommodating to my issue.
Chemisty: A solid 5. I play sidekicks and support focused characters with the express purpose of working together and having fun. Teamwork and cooperation are high in our group and we don't have any spotlight hogs or edge lords to ruin the fun. Heck, we don't even really have power gamers and as such have fun trying out non-optimal builds to see what cool or flavorful things we can do. We are a very chill non-serious group.
So the result is 3+5+3+5 = 16. I feel that that's a highly respectable number.

    for me personally:
Storytelling: 1-2/5 honestly one of my weakest skills so far, untill recently i haddnt thought about how my Pc's own story meshed with the world around them and they acted as more of a background character. also i tend to have difficulties connecting with other PC's. i also tend to forget plot details that happened a while back, but thankfully my dm makes very thurough notes on the previous sessions, (i do need to improve my notetaking though)
gameplay 4/5: probably my strongest skill of the four, i just need to improve my speed (mostly due to being slow with adding the damage dice togather.... currently a high level rogue)
Etiquette: 3.5/5 : i always get to the session 15-30 minutes early (at dms request due to tech issues as a possibility)and i keep myself clean. (also before all this happened i sometimes brought snacks) the big issue is im easily distracted and since we moved online its been a lot easier for me to lose focus
Chemistry: 2.5/5: in general i try to respect the other players boundries and i try to participate with group decision making, i really fall flat however when it comes to developing the story together, i have a hard time getting into the roleplay dispite being interested in it all and because of that i also fail to help entertain the other party (except when i have a crazy plan..... regardless of character i love improvising)
total level 11/20: not terrible but i really want to improve my roleplay and give my characters more of a connection to the current narritive, so the next time i have to roll up a new PC im going to talk with the dm to workshop my characters story to help improve that. as for right now, im going to try and catch onto a plot hook that would make sense for the character and try to be more involved.

One piece of advise I tell players both new and old:
    Players are *not* their characters.
It might seem straight forward and obvious, but this is easily overlooked when you are knee deep in a game like D&D. The most common example that jumps to mind involve situations where one character has 'things to hide' from the other characters. I have seen this lead to animosity between the players themselves, simply because one character does not like what another character is doing and decided to hold the player in contempt for it.
Chemistry falls apart once this starts occurring!

Thank god, I never had Hygiene issues at games even at the public dinner games. lol,
We actually had 2 police officers join us as an NPC to PC guard captain and lieutenant for 5 hours as they just got off shift but need some overtime hours by having a very long early breakfast. It was a great scene combining interrogation scene from the usual suspects with a who done it session where our DM locked down then entire party and high prominent nobles in the castle. I think you can see where this starting. DM Turn the investigators NPC's Into PC's for the two cops to use and make rolls. The objective was simple. The party of 6, were to steal a magical artifact from the treasure room during a noble party in the castle. One of us was a pure thief and the other was a thief ranger MC while the rest of us run sutle interference to get the other 2 into the treasure room. While my character and my friends C dance together True Lies style and the others be on the lookout. We all had magical earings that allow us to send ESP messages to each other. Meanwhile, our two thieves got the item but stubbled on the murder of the lord of the castle and the body was found and the place was locked down before everyone could escape. Enter the two cop's characters. Turns out our DM was murder mystery nutso so he was able to come up with this scenario on the fly was scary. The player's job was to escape without being caught with the said item. While the cop's objective is just to solve the murder but eventually rolling damn good to find out that a treasure was stolen but know what it was that was stolen. Yeah, the brown alert was very high on all of us players now. lol, Of course, all of us were rounded up because we were the most suspicious of random people in a castle full of rich merchants and noblemen. (Said the DM because the cops didn't know what meta gaming was and we took time to explain it to them. but it was cool the DM was expecting this would happen and write it off as such) We took a 15min break us players gather around to plan our strategy to defeating these cops and get the hell out of dodge. lol This getting long but to wrap this up. 4 other murders happen in the castle while this was going on. Cops finally manage d to catch the people involved and forgot about the missing treasure item. That we all manage to slip away from the lockdown and into the rising morning sun. I remember this night as I didn't get home till 5am and my dad grounded me for a week on a Thursday school night. XD This was back in 97 so cellphones weren't a thing yet in my town. Ahh, good times. :)

My level: Storytelling: 2-4. In a story-heavy game, this can be as high as a 4, but very often I find myself in groups that take the narrative very lightheartedly and/or are just straight up murder hobos. There I don't really need to pay much attention to or engage much with the story, because it's just window dressing between the next dungeon trips.
Gameplay: 4.5-5. I can absolutely know all the rules and help others with them. I never do it to gain an unfair advantage, and as a matter of fact I've sabotaged my own character's efforts at success by remembering rules that impact the character negatively. I have some problem "respecting DM rulings" because I haven't seen them be based on verisimilitude, but rather just to make the players contradicting them shut up and fall in line. So my level depends on how much the group cares about playing by the rules as written. If they care, it's a 5; if they don't it's a 4.5.
Ettiquete: 5. This one is easy! Too bad some people can't manage this minimum of decency.
Chemistry: 3-4. I've never been in a group that consciously made an effort to intertwine character arcs. I'm always supportive and never betray other players' characters in-game, though. D&D is a cooperative game, after all! Also, I think this category is a bit weird because it mixes real-world attributes between the players with in-game tactics and communication.
All in all, my level would be 16.5 or 19. I'm a somewhat veteran player, so it sounds about right. I've been gaming for 20 years, after all.

Storytelling 4 - I take notes every session, I have a backstory, I have an arc in mind but I should probably coordinate with other players more.
Gameplay 4 - I'd say this is my strongest suit, I respect the DMs rulings but I'll pipe in if they're unsure on how to rule or another player is confused. I could take some steps to speed up the game.
Etiquette 4 - I could try and be less distracting and I have been trying to bring snacks recently
Chemistry 3 - I try to respect others boundries, try to make plans with others and try to be entertaining (I play a bard)

    Storytelling - a solid 4
    Gameplay - 5
Etiquette - 4 (5 if contributing includes the $5 game fee the store has...although it becomes store credit.)
    Chemistry - 4/5
Grant it, playing at a game store, that score can vary wildly, especially if a player is added into your AL table one week, and they are being a pain - whether intentional or not. I know we should all try to be accommodating to other players, but sometimes it feels like a chore if that newly-inserted player is a 2 (or even less) across the board and does *not* try to improve even after having the DM or someone else has had a talk with them. Sadly, you really can't do anything about the murderhobo who won't listen to anyone else, they just want to kill things, or the young player who just wants to use the nifty powers and has no concern for the story or roleplaying at all.
(I still think of the one week in AL where we got two new players - because the one couple was off having their baby - and the one guy, at one point, after combat and while I was having my character check to see if the female creature was still breathing - we heard the mewing of her cubs nearby - announce that he was diving in from above and performing a killing strike. He didn't even get the clue that that was a dick move when I had my character say to his "You know, I like to study my subjects 'vile zey are still breathing." - I was playing a dragon-blooded human sorcerer with the sage background and a cute Russian accent. Luckily, he wasn't there the following week.)
