I know this is an older video but I pulled my Bandit out of storage and I forgot how incredible it sounds. This thing holds its own against my much more expensive tube amps. So many times in one amp.
Was born in Meridian Mississippi less than a year after Hartley Peavey started his business. My grand father knew his dad and my dad took guitar lessons from him. H. Peavey has made some awesome gear!
I used a bandit with a Boss Overdrive around '86-'87 and it got the job done. It was more than adequate. Anyone who doesn't give this amp a chance because it's solid state is simply fooling themself. One reason these amps sound so good is because of the speaker which is extremely well designed and how the EQ works. You get a lot of flexibility to dial in the right tone.
I lucked out and got one about 4 months ago..Sounds more like like a kickass tube amp..than any other..It is mind blowing..One of the best amp buys of my life..You can play anything on it and it nails the tone..
Just turned one of these into a head and through my 412 it kicks butt and sounds the same every time unlike my last tube head. The lows are huge and the amp feels great Soo easy to play when cleaned up using the guitar vol.🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Thank you for showing the EQ levels. Bought this amp a few months ago and can finally get good tone and Dynamics at low volume. Turning EQ levels very low makes a huge difference.
My silver striped Peavey rage 158 stopped working so my buddy let me keep his red stripe Peavey bandit 112 and omg it's night and day so loud and dynamic ,touch sensitive and the reverb sounds so good.. I love these amps.. only complaint is they can be a pain to lug around but the sound makes up for it for sure
Have you ever turned the clean channel up full (on the modern setting) and set the T Dynamics to between 12 and 1 O'Clock? Instant Marshall Plexi! Its magnificent! Hope you're ok, mate.
Peavey Bandits must have been around for ages. Nearly bought a used one 20 years ago. It was LOUD. A friend tried to give me a Peavey Vintage tube amp a few years ago. I couldn't take it. I talked him into keeping it. He also tried to give me a 70's Gibson EB-3 bass. Talked him into keeping that, too. He was glad I did.
These are great amps and super diverse. Had mine 14 years and never had a problem. I recently swapped out the speaker with an eminence swamp thang and really happy with the lower end it has provided.
The Bandit was my first "real" amp, still have it and still love it, you can play everything on it. Mine is a little bit different now, its called the pink stripe, red stripe didn't like the past 20 years light exposure 😁
Hey Dave, I have a Bandit 112 that I bought as a teenager 19 years ago. I have used it for gigs and practice alike and have used and abused it for many years. The amp is indestructible and capable of so many sounds. Yesterday I finally bought a new amp, the Orange CR-120 H with the matching Orange cab. Your stellar reviews and demos of the amp really helped me make the choice. I enjoy your info and guitar playing man keep it up.
People have no idea how good these are. I had one I couldn't give away. Last year of the USA Red Stripe. Finally pawned it just because there was no space for it during a cross country move. I've had a few Quilters and still have a 101 head, but honestly the Bandit sound is 98% as good & better in some ways. Its just heavy and not as convenient to haul around.
Marvellous amp, Dave! I’ve just bought two, as I fancied having a stereo setup for some stuff. Also, I like the idea of having different amps for single coil and humbucker guitars. I replaced the speakers with Eminence Red White & Blues ones, which have a bit more headroom and an overall better tone. I’d recommend them.
Love your videos and personality Dave. Leo fender was such an amazing inventor, and he got so many things right and so long ago that it's hard for others to come along and get their due recognition. I think that the fender bassman and the deluxe reverb are two of the best amps out there and yet I'll pick a Peavey classic 30 whenever I hear a comparison. Having said that, I own a red line Bandit 110 and Bandit 112 as well as a Transformer 112. I'm glad you like the Bandit 112 as much as I do, I would recommend it to anyone as a practical one amp solution!
The Bandit is still a good amp today. They are near indestructible as evidenced by the fact that good second hand ones are easily available on ebay etc. It's surprising how many of them are still in decent cosmetic condition.
Peavey Bandit's are special amps. The sounds are so easy to dial in and the range of tones are brilliant. Any style of music can be played with just the amp alone or you can stack as many pedals as you want in front of them and/or through the loop. The Bandit will take them all quietly and confidently. I can blow the walls down with beauty with one of these amplifiers. The people need to know/remember these are not your normal solid state amp's. They are the royalty in my opinion. Nice energy BTW in your videos. Nice playing as well. Varied and on point. Entertaining and informative.
I love this guy. He’s the real deal, and of course the English accent is a big plus. I speak from the other side of the pond by the way. I like the two guys at the music store but there act is meant to be silly, perhaps geared toward teens. I do value their reviews. But this guy is like a mad scientist insane guitar player with the wild hair to match who damn it, can really play the thing and his musicianship is up there in the stratosphere. Maybe that’s where they got the name Stratocaster. As he’s playing I can hear references to old music and may I say it, even classical music. Was ready to buy the Roland Cube but looks like the Bandit will do just fine. Have a Peavey Basic 60 bass amp which sounds better than, dare I speak sacrilege, sounds better with a six string than my Deluxe Reverb.
Yea The American Libtards always fall for the Accent,Many salesmen from the U.K. here from Infomercials to selling mops at the Flea Market with the Maddddonna mics strapped on their face..
yeah I'm from Lynyrd Skynyrd land ,,, Northeast Florida where Peavey is King ... NOT to say it was the poor man's Marshall ,,, but there's a lot more to it ... thanks for the vid ... love you Channel Dave ...
Excellent video!.. and fantastic playing!.. you are the solid state king!.. I just picked one up yesterday off FB marketplace .. In absolute mint condition .. I have several tube amps.. and switching back and forth.. all i can say is this amp can hold it's own! amazing tone and for 1/10 of what I paid for a tube amp!..these Amps are an incredible value... i love it!.. thanks for the vid!
I bought one of these via ebay, and picked it up this morning. It's performance is incredible - I think I'm going to enjoy this! It might become my goto amp at this rate. I'm a great fan of 'loud clean' and this thing delivers big time. Love it!
Awesome demo, Dave! These Bandits are THE best deal going for great, versatile tone. I just picked up a US Silverstripe for $99...best money I ever spent on gear. It gets as much playing time at home as my tube Vox's, Marshall, Supro and Fender...and I got it to gig out with. Rock on, Dave!
he's not the only guy that talked about pevy bandit there's no other guy on the CZcams that has similar one and gets great tones out of it. Pevy gets a bad rap and it has me great amps
the trans tube technology really works great.. Don't get rid of your old Peavey Vypyr amps guys they really do mimic the real amps that are inside and The bandit amps are badass Peavey made a great start with this Trans tube technology. ...
I've got three Studio Pro 112s. The Bandit's little brother. 2 Silver Stripes and a Red stripe. All slightly different. The High Gain channels on these amps are absolutely killer. Pregain 6 Bass 6 Middle 6 Treble 6 Post gain (6666 is this trying to tell me something?) Controlled feedback to die for. And they love pedals. Also got an XXL (100 watt head version of the Bandit) but it's a chonky boy and I like travelling light. Gig with the SPs regularly. All bought for pennies. They're absoultely monster amps. I've ALSO got an Envoy 112 40 watt which is JUST about giggable. Loving your channel mate. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves these solid state Marvels (Marvel eh? See what I did there?) :)
Dave just a thought about the EQ on the amp. I've just acquired a silver stripe bandit and I found it to be too trebley for me, I too had to turn middle and treble to nearly off and the bass too was very strong so my EQ settings were very much as you described yours. (Surely the amp designer didn't intend the EQ stack to work that way?)Then it occurred to me for a 20 year old amp it was in great nick and perhaps the speaker had not been broken in properly. So I covered it with cushions and played big band Jazz music through it at high volume for a couple of hours to give the speaker cone a good workout, and it worked! Now my EQ settings on clean aren't all 'off' and I've got more more scope to sculpt the tone. Might be worth a try with yours too, it costs nothing but you do have to run it loud for it to work. I chose big band Jazz music for the range of frequencies; double bass to push the lows, horn sections for the mids etc. Could you be even more in love with yours? Ian
I have been listening to your Channel for many months. I no longer get joy from any of the other guitar CZcams channels. I am absolutely in love with your style of playing. I've always wanted to play like David Gilmour or Gary Moore or many others that I can think of now. You are now my Guitar Hero! The soul and the feeling of your playing surpasses all others😎
Like always, great video. Awesome amp. I have one that I will never get rid of. That sustain was sick🤘🏼this amp is making a come back. Thank you for a great video. Cheers
Yo Dave great amp ey mate, had one back in early ninety and miss it dearly sold it when I moved😝🤪😲gonna find another one..now that my playing has reached a worthy level 💥🔥💥got to make it scream🤪😲😲😲🔥💥🔥🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🤩🤨✌️😎
Damn man, they really are freaking amazing Heard some awesome stuff about these bandits, the guy over on InTheBlues raaaves about them and the tones are to die for! Definitely gonna pick one up if I see it floating around. They sound so good!
4:25 great tone. Screaming Strat! Gotta fix my grey mist Strat too. Took it to 100 plus jam nights. Got dropped- needs a jack resolder. Our work is never done! ha Ha cheers, mate! from mtw in L.A. Currently using Peavey and Kustom. Yeeeeeow.
Dave Simpson I got it by accident off eBay. It was listed at £120 or best offer, so I offered what I thought was bordering on an insulating figure, which was accepted!
11/05/2019: I have the Peavey 112 Bandit made in USA 2004 with 12" Sheffield speaker. One feature I do not understand too well is the dial for Transube T-Dynamics 25%, 50%, and 100% power (dial on front of amp far right side). I really do not hear any change using it. A youtube Peavey owner told me that is normal not to hear any change for the GAIN channel. But for the CLEAN channel, I should hear a "slight" difference when I turn it all the way up 100%, because it will break up a little bit just like a tube amp. I have heard that solid-state amps and tube distortion are very similar sounds. Two Questions: (1) My amp has 2-different GAIN settings (High Gain Modern or Vintage) with really good sound, so why would I need to play the amp all the up 100% in the CLEAN Channel just to get a little breaking up distortion? (2) Why would anyone use the T-dynamics in the Clean Channel 100% volume (way too loud for my ears) when the amp has a good GAIN channel at any volume?
I believe that one characteristic of the transtube circuit is that it mimics tube distortion that occurs when a tube amp is maxed out. The T-Dynamics feature is there to allow that tubey distortion at lower than max volumes. Want that sound at lower volume when you can't play too loud? Turn down the T-Dynamics knob to the level you want to play. I don't know how well it works, but that is my understanding of its function.
Glad to see you have the right Peavey Bandit now David, silver stripe Peavey's are ok but not a patch on these red stripes, as you have shown, I play my coil tapped Epiphone Les Paul into this mainly but they will take any pick-up & sound awesome. The only thing I wasn't completely happy with is the Blue Marvel speaker for those low-end tones. To my ear, I got round it by running it into a Genz Benz 4-12 cab with Private Jacks by Eminence 1st & it went a bit too low haha so I sat it on top of my 1960 cab with Celestion G12T-75's & it blew me away!!! My neighbours like the combination too!!! :)) If you haven't already...... DO it NOW!!!! :))
Beautiful playing, damn! Those old Peaveys really kick ass. Currently I have an eye on a 112 studio made in USA. I also have a Katana 50 Gen 3, and wanted to ask how you'd compare the two?
Hey, if you like low end so much, have you ever tried using a bass cabinet for your guitar? I know Adam Jones of TooL did that and I really love the thump of his low end.
I used to have a peavy amp , Was awesome with a les Paul I had at the time , I think il buy another peavy amp after seeing this vid , wasn't sure what valve combo to buy but I know now thanks Dave
This isn't valve. Funnily enough just came from the Andertons channel where they are doing an epic deal on 20 watt peavey valve amps. 339 pounds, Damn good price if you like EL84s. Not for me, prefer 6L6s.
At approximately 4:30 you break int a Rory Gallagher riff. To verify are you on the lead channel, vintage, pre gain 10, low mid high on 0, reverb on 2, presence 4, , loose and Td maxed. Are you running any pedals into it? I have tried a 60s classic vibe and my MIM Hendrix strat and can only get about 70% percent close to what you get for the Rory sound from my red stripe Bandit. Please answer :-)
HAHAA nice! when you were playing the strat on the hi gain setting I said to myself, man this amp would do that Gary Moore Still Got The Blues Lead tone so well with a Les Paul type guitar and then you played it, great minds think alike
Hi Dave. Love the playing and the tones. Thanks for the video. My Red Stripe is on the way as we speak from Guitar Center. It's coming from Memphis so maybe some of the mojo will rub off. I need all the help I can get!
David, I am truly sorry, I honestly did not know that you done this vid. I can honestly say this is amazing and can you please do another updated version 🙏.... I do love this amp but there is that fine line on it being quite then hits you in the face loud....anyway, all the best to you.. John from Cornwall.
Am now a proud Bandit owner, really great amps. Met all my workout goals for the month getting it home on public transit though, built like an absolute tank!
The Peavy Bandit 112 red stripe sounds great on its own, but it is one of the rare instances where a solid state amp takes pedals very well. It has has effects loop but I do not usually use it, I just run it all into the clean channel (helps in splitting the signal for my other amp that way). Peg the bass, mid, and treble on the clean and oh my.
Great video and demo Dave. You really need to demo Blackstar id core solid state amps. They have TVP - True Valve Performance, imitating the EL84 - 6V6 - EL34 - KT66 - 6L6 and the KT88 and also the Infinite Shape Feature where you can go from the American to the British sound. Thanks for some of my favourite snippets. 🤘🏻
Jonah Hatch I wish I hadn't let MY B65 go! I sold it to a youth pastor years ago so he'd have a power amp in to run his modeling unit into. (Ikr?) Tried to buy it back but he refused.
TheRosswise Well, if I get a Bandit now, it'll be a 97 blackstripe or a USA redstripe. I've had a XXL head (Bandit's big brother) and would consider that again.
Don't count out the new cyclops Bandit either. They are just as good tone-wise as the USA redstripe, with an extra voicing on the gain channel. Yeah I have the XXL too, I liked it so much I bought another as a spare ;)
I know this is an older video but I pulled my Bandit out of storage and I forgot how incredible it sounds. This thing holds its own against my much more expensive tube amps. So many times in one amp.

The 'Little Brother' version of this amp is the Envoy110 (10"x40w) -- equally awesome tones and better for playing in your house 😆

those notes you are killing at like 5:40 are awesome. signs of enjoying the sounds you are getting. intheblues loves these amps too

Shall do and thank you for watching. :)
Beautiful playing, damn!
Those old Peaveys really kick ass. Currently I have an eye on a 112 studio made in USA. I also have a Katana 50 Gen 3, and wanted to ask how you'd compare the two?
Awesome video awesome playing awesome Tone!! I love Klon pedals I have a KTR Klon and many klon clones they are my favorite 😊👍👍
Thank you very much. :)
Greetings Dave,I don't know why but those Bandits really rock! Better than the silver stripe imo.Great playing as ever,tc mate :-)
Thank you very much. :)
Hey, if you like low end so much, have you ever tried using a bass cabinet for your guitar? I know Adam Jones of TooL did that and I really love the thump of his low end.
I do prefer B cabs to A cabs. More low end thump like you say. Not a fan of angled cabs so much. :)
8:45 Diary of a Madman by Randy Rhoads very good choice.
Thank you. : )
That song and randy's playing is why I started 🎸👍
Great vid. I miss my red stripe SP 112 more than ever.
I have one, picked it up for $60.00 it rocks.
Fab stuff as always Dave. Just got my red stripe. Keep being cool. !
My cousin owns 2 or 3 of these. I love playing them
I used to have a peavy amp , Was awesome with a les Paul I had at the time , I think il buy another peavy amp after seeing this vid , wasn't sure what valve combo to buy but I know now thanks Dave
This isn't valve. Funnily enough just came from the Andertons channel where they are doing an epic deal on 20 watt peavey valve amps. 339 pounds, Damn good price if you like EL84s. Not for me, prefer 6L6s.
Seek and destroy sounded amazing! Sold.
Diary of a Madman! Always glad to get the notification that you've uploaded another vid!
Thank you very much. :)
Excellent. Sounds the doggie's whatsits!
Thank you very much. :)
Awesome stuff and technique, Dave! Have you ever run your ext speaker output into another 8 ohm load to hear how it sounds through other speakers?
Thank you very much and i have run it out into other speakers. Sounds awesome. :)
Hi Dave, I had the Peavey Solo Series, gigged with it, Great amp.
Awesome. :)
HAHAA nice! when you were playing the strat on the hi gain setting I said to myself, man this amp would do that Gary Moore Still Got The Blues Lead tone so well with a Les Paul type guitar and then you played it, great minds think alike
Thank you very much indeed and thank you for watching. :)
PUT IT THROUGH A 4X12! DO IT! If it was possible I'd say put it through a FULL STACK!
this or a DLS40CR (independently of the price difference)? help!
+1 to this one! And also vs a 6505 Mh?
I have an old school SS Marshall Lead 15 mini stack you would love.
It's Bandit Tuesday! ha aha ha Cheers, mate from MTW in L.A.
I think that Oswalt Strat would make anything sound great. Especially if you're playing it. :)
Thank you very much indeed. :)
two thumbs up AWESOME vid man love it!!!!!
Man i love your videos, your just fun to watch. 👍😃
Thank you very much indeed. :)
That guitar is very musical, if you get my drift
Indeed i do. Thank you for watching. :)
Hi Dave. Love the playing and the tones. Thanks for the video. My Red Stripe is on the way as we speak from Guitar Center. It's coming from Memphis so maybe some of the mojo will rub off. I need all the help I can get!
Thank you for watching and i'm sure you'll make it sound awesome. :)
David, I am truly sorry, I honestly did not know that you done this vid. I can honestly say this is amazing and can you please do another updated version 🙏....
I do love this amp but there is that fine line on it being quite then hits you in the face loud....anyway, all the best to you..
John from Cornwall.
Nice demo, great playing! I'm checking out one just like it on Friday.
Thank you very much. : )
Am now a proud Bandit owner, really great amps. Met all my workout goals for the month getting it home on public transit though, built like an absolute tank!
Saw your video of the cr120 at bedroom volume. Does the bandit sound good turned down low? Keep up the great vids
It does indeed sound great a low volume. Thank you for watching. :)
Youre so incredibly dextrous Dave. I didnt see when the glass slide went on at all.
:)
It's 3:30 AM, can't sleep, and. can't crank my Bandit. What to do?
Man i waste so much time watching your videos. Before i know it ive blown the whole day away. To good
Sorry about that but thank you so very much for watching my vids. :)
This amp is on my want list.
I don;t blame you. I hope you get one. :)
***** Need the money. Totally povvo at the moment!
Thank you very much and thanks for watching. : )
Sweet amp demo! :)
My dad gas a bandit 65 in the basement... He said he'll never let it go haha
Jonah Hatch I wish I hadn't let MY B65 go! I sold it to a youth pastor years ago so he'd have a power amp in to run his modeling unit into. (Ikr?) Tried to buy it back but he refused.
They have a couple of them on guitar center for $100 used.
Great playing and demo👍
Thank you very much. : )
@@thedavesimpson Your welcome Dave.. You rock.
Do you ever play any Johnny Marr/Smiths stuff?
Not really no but i do love Johnny Marr's playing. :)
Very nice Dave and what a good find. Great sounds from a solid state. Did I detect a touch of Rory and George T in the demo ???
Thank you very much indeed and you did indeed detect that. :)
Dave what do these usually go for? Thanks.
Depends really. I've seen them go for anywhere from 80 to 150. : )
