  • Learn how to fix a Whirlpool washing machine (Whirlpool Cabrio) that is displaying the UL code. In this video I cover the importance of distributing the clothing in the drum, checking the stator for cracks, and how to replace the suspension rods. The washer in the video is a Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum (Model number WTW8900BC0) washer but this is applicable to all similar styles of washers. This video is part of my series "Free on Facebook" a series of videos in which I repair, repurpose, and recycle things I find for free.

    Thanks so much!!! I tilted the machine back to see if the stator had cracks. What I found out was the stator cover was loose! I just tightened it up and that solved the problem! And you saved me a lot of money!

    After sitting for a couple months, the Whirlpool Cabrio began to show the oL code at the end of the wash part of the cycle. It would not go to spin. I turned the washer off, then back on and had it do a Rinse and Spin, which it did, then showed the oL code again. I turned it off again, then back on and had it do the Drain and Spin, which it did. After checking all the usual problems - suspension rods, stator, and a few other things, I saw a video explaining that if the washer hasn’t been used for awhile, the tub can get stuck on the shaft and will not move up and down on the shaft as required. I removed the tub and sure enough the shaft was corroded to the point of not allowing the tub to freely move up and down as required to go into the spin cycle. I cleaned up the shaft, cleaned out the tub part that rides on the shaft, put the parts all back together, and it ran through the complete wash cycle flawlessly.

    Thanks, this fixed my washer. But for anyone else reading this, I had a lot of trouble lifting the rods and getting the top bearing into place. I needed a third hand. The sweat from working in a houston garage in mid July probably didn't help, everything kept slipping. So then I had the bright idea of using the old rod to hook the new one through the hole, and slide the bearing into place. It worked like a charm.
    Also, my arms were too short to reach that blue piece that clips into place at the bottom of the tub, and unseat it. A long screw driver did the trick.

    Right on. Great explanation as your walking us through the process. So many others assume I know how to do it just by watching. I have a different CABRIO washer with spin issues and not enough money to hire a tech this helped.

    Great video! Very step by step and well spoken. I work on these in my side business and about 30% of the time it is a bad bearing, so if you get a UL code all is not lost, it might just be suspension rods!

    Thank you so much! Excellent job on instructions! Great video! The suspension rods don’t look bad, but water was leaking. Gives UL CODE AND F CODE? thank you so much! Caretaker for my 81 yr old dad and now have sheets in there. It looked like the rod jumped out of the 90 degree Angel. So adjusted that and still UL, then F Code.

    Thank you! New rods fixed my uL code maytag bravos xl. I also found out you can use dampening grease like "Nyogel 767A" on the old rods to fix the problem without replacing rods too! (add it on the rod near the top of the spring, so it adds friction).

    Great video!!! I work on this brand all the time . Sometimes a bad bearing causes UL error. You can test it on spin , if it sounds terrible it’s bad bearings

    I recently replaced the bearing. It worked fine for a while after, but then started banging around like crazy. Im doing a load right now and actually not getting any banging, but I got a uL code. The weird thing is that the washer is still doing its cycle even with the code. It was filling up water and spinning, then the code went away, and it started doing its last 15 minutes. Dont know what is going on. 🤷‍♂️

    WTW8500BWO.
    Is code 68 the same as uL? Prior owner said it displayed uL. When i do automatic diagnostic test i recover code 68 . Looks to have had a new shaft, bearings. and seal kit put in. Im wondering if he over torqued the bottom nut and thus the codes and no agitation or high speed spin. Looks like he used red threadlocker instead of blue threadlocker. Imma check it. But your input will be helpfil. Thanks in advance

I have the same exact one stops at minute 13 and starts to give ul code even clothes are balanced so I will check the other 2 options, but it also leak water and I put a washer plastic base to collect that water. So can you tell me what to do for the leaking??

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Před rokem +1

      Unfortunately if you have a UL code and are also leaking water on this particular model that typically means you have a bad tub bearing

      I changed the suspension rods and closed the top but when I tried to wash at about the end of the cycle minutes 8 to 5 the tub itself moves a lot and very noisy its like its hitting at the washer external walls. Does that mean I did something wrong or I need to change the bearing. I will change the bearing anyway I bought it already but I was wondering if I could've installed them wrong. Cause also the tub looked elevated little bit

      I just want to let you know that I figured the rods I bought from Amazon where shorter than originals ( i bought 2 different sets both the same issue) so I changed bearing then put back original rods and it works perfectly fine better than ever

    The stator bolt is way too tight and in oir attempt to undo the bolt, we've pretty much rounded the threads. (There's lots of rust around so we're sure there's a crack in there thay's leaked our watee into the metal components of the motor.) What's the solution now?

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Your tub seal is probably leaking I would also guess that it sounds like a freight train when in the spin cycle. You are looking at replacing the drive shaft/bearing kit, tub seal, and stator. In my opinion it is better to go get a nice used washer. Preferably an older style kenmore whirlpool model.

    hello, thanks for the helpful videos. i'm sure many viewers of your channel appreciate your expertise in repairing their washers. thank you.
    i watched the previous lid lock video and im hoping you can give me more advice. in service mode for my ge washer, my only fault code is 23- critical lid lock error. i replaced the lid switch with a brand new one from amazon. the washer still does not spin and gives same fault code error. the spin test on service mode doesnt work and the lid switch does not lock. the lid switch test does shows that its able to read open and close states correctly when the lid is either open or closed. it just does not lock at all and in either the spin test or regular spin/drain wash cycle, the washer will stop immediedly. is the new lid switch broken because it does not lock? or is the issue something else? anything that i can try? thanks.

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Před rokem

      Thank you for the kind words. It could be an issue with the lid lock being broken. The only other issue I can think of is that the main board is sensing the lid open/closed but is not able to lock the solenoid. I would definitely return the lid lock and try a different one before looking at the main board (as they are expensive and perhaps not worth the repair unless you can find a used one).
