Road tripping across Iraq (proper) is a wild experience and I do not recommend any tourist to do it. It can get pretty intense! My buddy Alvaro (IG: @wanderreds) and I were stopped at over 30 police checkpoints - some easy, others hard - and by the end of the journey, my brain was fried … But we made it in one piece to the Southern city of Basra, and I documented the entire experience for you to see.

The reason WHY there are so many checkpoints is to keep the people of Iraq safe and maintain security levels throughout the region. Don't be afraid of the men at the checkpoints, they may look aloof, intimidating, and unfriendly, but I promise they are there for safety and controlling who comes in/goes out.
Iraq is really pretty, a lot of historical sites. Big ups from Jamaica 🇯🇲 bless 🌍

It’s actually low risk there. I’m Iraqi and I’ve been on the road. The police are usually unprofessional and half the time they stop foreigners just for the sake of speaking to them or wasting time.
I'm originally from Iraq and I have 3 ginger head Iraqi cousins, so Drew you do look like an Iraqi 😂
