The Nissan 240SX was a sports car introduced to America in 1988. It was light, comfortable, and had a playful chassis. The stock engine was a 2.4L inline-4 (this 1997 example got the KA24DE). In stock form it made about 155HP, but the chassis can take far more, as proven by the drift crowd. This owner added a turbo to the KA24, along with good internals, and some other mods.
Yo for a 20 yo owner, thats a mature and tasteful build, props to him
Absolutely agree. This young guy will go somewhere with that build attitude. Props mate.
Damn. Thanks for the kind words. @_tomas.a_
I mean I’m 17 and I got an e30 and I got good taste, I think it’s pretty normal for our age to have nice builds
Erbio he means its not all thrashed and with a cracked dash. All stickerbombed n shit too lol.
Erbio nooooooooooooo lol
The cleanest 240sx I have ever seen with a ka24 the cleanest engine bay no oil leaks or dirty ass engine
Thanks! That's what I was going for. -@_tomas.a_
tomas adriano your welcome keep up the good work and I mean it I seen a lot of 240sx that are just junk and some that have been done right but to not my taste but this one is how I would want it to be like completely restored
Check out the ugly duckling 240
Yeah, this car is so cool looking
This shows the benefits of teaching your son about hard work so he appreciates the time and effort that goes into building a car
Birmingham racing that’s what I’m hoping to teach my daughter
Birmingham racing too bad he built rice.
MrDulvalius69 rice in what way?
This Crazy Tangerine if she’s a car girl watch the boys around her they get excited to see a girl into cars
Birmingham racing so true. But the thought of her schooling some of them makes me smile. I figure if I can keep her around the car scene that she'll take interest in it. But I certainly can't force her. Let's hope I'm lucky. The main thing my wife and I agreed on was that she will help me build her first car. That way even if she doesn't get into cars, she'll at least have more respect for her car than most. Gotta keep that family tradition.
that is literally the cleanest interior i have ever seen in an s14. Knowing how hard it is to keep a clean interior like that....props
Just listening to this dude, you can tell he knows what he's talking about. Serious props.
shame he doesn't know how to set up a suspension. This car rubs without even pushing it
People can do it, but most folks don't know how to make wheels that size work on lowered cars. And it might also be a little more on the "show" side than the "go" .
The coil overs were literally a week old in this video. So I never got to really test them. I guess the dampening was set a little to soft for aggressive driving. "Rookie" mistake. - @_tomas.a_
That's one clean well built 240, hats off to ya young man
Damn what a pretty 240sx--mad props to this man and his father. Inspirational!
Dude that thing is sweet. Perfectly modified to me. I like a tasteful and never overdone car that can be driven hard.
Hands down one of my favorite builds on TST. Tastefully modified, and an extremely clean engine bay! I love the sleeper engine bay look 100%. Props to you, dude!
Thanks for such high praise! @_tomas.a_
I have a lot of respect for this kid -- taking better care and consideration for his car and modifications than many people twice his age. The interior and underhood condition highlight just how well he has done. Kudos to Dad for being a good mentor and inspiring a healthy method to the habit of cars and modification.
it’s so sad when I see people mess these cars up while drifting. GUYS they aren’t made anymore. please take notice of this clean 240 and follow in these steps
Alex LaFreniere or do whatever you want with the car you own lol
Eddie Gonzalez Well yeah, but I'd say that many people who drift are also fans of the S chassis aside from it's drifting potential. He has a point, these are getting rarer and rarer, and they are honestly pretty outdated as a drift chassis at this point. Notice the ratio of S chassis to other chassis is much higher in amatuer than competitive drifting. Everyone knows that drifting destroys cars. It just does. Why not destroy something less valuable, with more parts, that will actually be a better performance value per dollar, like a Z33? If every single Z33 got smashed into a wall and then a cube I'd be fine. They're cancerous and the only enjoyment I've gotten out of one is beating the hell out of it.
brooksman10 You gone have to square up real quick
I beat the piss out of mine, lol it’s what it’s made for.
life's too short to preserve cars for resell value. beat the crap out of them that's what life's about man
wait zach is 35 lol
At least he's going to still look good at 70 ;)
If you look too young for your age, alcohol will fix that, or heroine.
Jokes aside, I have the same advantage/problem. I am almost 35 but people think I am 23-24.
When you are with a girl who's much younger than you, you know it's not for your cash. :-) (and I am mostly broke anyway.)
and demuro's 29
Hes 21 guys
holy shit Matt is 36-37
A bit slammed for my taste, but that is a beautiful example of the 240SX. Love the cleanliness and simplicity of the engine compartment. Yay TST for exhibiting another fun build!
I like the increased footage of inside the car & walkaround outside. Nice to actually see the cars vs just the drive.
His dad has the right idea. Doing it right nice motor
The cleanest 240 with a KA that I've ever seen. Awesome car man!
I wonder what dad drives
He has a 2003 C5 Z06 and 1971 240z currently
tomas adriano do you need any nismo/jdm parts? I have a ton of parts for s14/15. I work for nismo dealership in Pennsylvania. Hit me up on IG jml0626
I might hit you up @_tomas.a_
You know he drives a Datsun
tomas adriano damn bruh I was gonna guess a Z too
Dam that is one of the nicest, cleanest custom cars I have seen in a long time. Taste, power, a lot of sensibleness (if that is a word) seems to have gone into his build. Absolutely awesome car.
Man, this makes me miss my old 89 240sx! Nice build bro, if I had the money 20 years ago, this is how I would’ve built mine up.
The flex fuel badge is a nice touch, haha. What a clean s14 though. It has a great stance to it.
Wow, rare to see clean 240's. I made a video regarding a clean 240x where the owner will be boosting the KA as well. Awesome!
Zack every one take you put out gets better and better. I personally can tell your confidence is rising and it shows. Keep at it and you'll do quite well. As for all these little boys and girls that have nothing nice to say get over yourselves. Props to the whole smoking tire crew you guys all do a great job at making automotive journalism interesting and fun.
Rich Brian!
The best part of this thing is that it’s not obnoxiously loud
I love that 240! VERY well executed!
word of advice to the owner, switch to the Z32 break booster. I owned a z32 for 7 years and it had the greatest feeling breaks I've ever felt in a car. Also the ABS in that car was amazing, saved my ass from many retarted drivers.
Whoa, is this host new? I like this guy. Let's keep him.
duane willis think they scooped him off the tarmac last week mate
I'm digging the videos with Zack. Seems pretty knowledgeable and genuine.
Also, I'm sorry, but I didnt hear which engine that turbo came from but being from a turbo Nissan, it's most likely a T28 based turbo, it makes the KA so much more responsive and powerful down low and that is where you spend most of your time on the street. I built my forged turbo LSVTEC that's in my EK Honda Civic coupe with a large Turbonetics turbo that's made for top end and my turbo doesn't really spool until right after VTEC crossover because of the increased lift and exhaust pulse, so it doesn't have much low end torque, but once the turbo hits full boost it pulls so hard to redline that it scares me sometimes. I made 508 whp so far on fairly low boost, but the engine is built to make around 600 whp.
Zack you need to buy one man. I could tell you loved the way that car felt. Don’t let a swapped 240sx scare you away. If the owner has done a good job on the swap without any big turbos or crazy boost settings then it should be pretty reliable. Ive daily driven my sr20det 240 for 5yrs with just General maintenance and stock psi levels. Better yet buy a RHD one from in importer. Just don’t get the ca18det motor 😝
This video really makes me want to boost my KA, cant wait for that day.
Looks CLEAN AF, absolutely love the look, the stance, and it also goes like stink
NOW YOU'VE GOT MY ATTENTION
Damn. Interior and engine real clean, like mine...that wrap makes me want to finally finish the paint and body on mine. Real nice.
Everyone there that day thought it was paint until the owner told us. His dad runs a vinyl shop. - ZK
dude this is a really clean s14. if only all the kids could build out these cars like this.
I don't know a whole lot about 240s because it's probably one of the only vehicles I have never owned (along with any VWs), but that turbo kit really does look fairly OEM besides the intercooler piping. It's good to hear that you built the engine to remedy the weak points that you encountered with your first turbo kit (which is something that we have all lived and learned from), and it's also good to hear that you went with a Nissan supplied turbo rather than an aftermarket larger turbo, and that adds to the response and originality of the chassis and engine. You have a well-built beautiful build and anyone that says otherwise is an asshat hater and doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. Looks great brother! I love it.
Always liked these. Clean car and engine bay. Would never consider one over a C4 but great review. Good choice on the e46 m3. No comparison there.
Thanks everyone for watching! That coil overs were brand new during this drive so I guess they were set a little to soft. Lol They've since been set firmer to fix the rubbing issue. - @_tomas.a_
This car is so nice looking
Not normally a fan of s14’s but this guy has done his right. And owning the car since he was 13 is a pretty damn good story
I'd personally take a built KA over a built SR any day. More displacement and parts are way easier to find.
I'd personally tune on a proper ems with closed loop wideband though.
Nice build. I remember my 240 and I miss the damn thing...
Tim B yup. Also the Piston oil squirters help alot keeping the Piston cool. There is a theory floating online that Nissan intended the KA to be turbocharged (hence the Piston oil squirters)
Inline+long stroke= great spool and easy maintence when needed.
Very good build. That bay set up looks sick very stock looking. I really like that
thanks Zack Farah
So clean. Makes me miss my 97 I sold 9 years ago.
Man this kid had the best upbringing as a car enthusiast. Almost seems like a fairy tale.
My father won't let me even buy a cheap Miata... Super jealous of this build! Everything's done just right.
Bro when he pressed that button and you heard that shit crank louder it was like wooooo 😂🤘🏽💯
Look! A 240sx with a built KA that actually sounds and looks healthy! What a unicorn.
He described the kouki perfectly, the feel the hood slope everything. Just sold mine unfortunately but I'll get another in a few years like I always do 😉✌
Great One Take. I love this car. I have always admired the 240SX. I remember riding in a friend's stock 240 in the very early 90's in college. Bone stock, yet fun. Very nice, responsible young man. Beautiful car. I'm really enjoying the first two Zach videos I have watched tonight. Nothing against Matt whatsoever. Keep doing what you're doing guys.
I really like the car and for the owner's age it is/was well done, I'd just have it raised up ever so much so it doesn't rub under serious compression.
That kids hand hitting the arm rest on the door 25 times pisses me off. Haha great video guys! Keep it up.
No one gives zack credit for how funny he is lmao he is never off
00:00 "Gimmie just a quick secon... Skip 1:17
Xd
This guys videos are actually more informative than Matts.
Clean!
that engine bay is CLEAN
Woah is that Rich Brian?
Yes -@_tomas.a_
Dude should be proud. Beautiful car that he can work on and daily. I'm jealous!
S14 gang 🙌🏽🤙🏽
Hell yeah! 🤘
Beautiful S14 sounded really sweet. But the guy driving didn’t give it enough credit. I mean for someone who reviews cars should be privileged not envious. Awesome car you should make a poster of it
At 7.09 the mathematics makes alot of sense so here's my def:
13 = playing around
16= mistakes
22= figure out all of the problems
28= 20 also maturity hits
YES S14! Get One Zack! Keep up the fantastic work guys!
I want to be his dad when my son grows up. Awesome vid!
Good to see u again Matt ! 👍✌✌
that is such a sweet build i love s chassis'
You can cook an egg in his engine bay. Great job dad.
Is that Calvin? Tj hunts bald friend
I'm not bald. So I guess not. -@_tomas.a_
The boy just has a high hairline damn lmao
"Built to last ..... DURAlast"
Yup. Zack can throw down a superfunny line so smoothly I'm sure I miss half of 'em!
True budget build! good job
Very nice build 👍🏽 engine bay looks sick. I don’t see an inner cooler, any issues with overheating?
Love it Zach. I also have wanted a 240 for a long time, but ended up going with a M3 for the same reasons. Now I have a S2000 as a second car that I would not want to trade for a 240, but have no room for another car. I still want one but agree the 240 would need to be a 3rd car...
nice car always been a s14 fan since i was younger
Very clean s14
I like how you critique, keep it up
Super clean! Awesome car!
I had a 95 s14 man it was the most fun car I’ve owned even I never got to properly build mine I’ve been searching for another but sadly people overprice them
yo rich chigga out here racing silvias
At 5:20 he says lets take off, and there is only one person in the car. Then it goes back to the in cabin view and both men are there.
Clean car
I love KAs.. lol I might have missed it.. But what manifold is that?? Man the way he did it makes it look like it came turbo from the factory. Super clean
Thats a clean af car👌
stock internal KA's will last boosted if you 1: dont go over 6400k or 300hp 2: have a PERFECT tune
Seems like a good kid raised by a good dad
Content starts at 1:13
I love the s14/15 I wish Nissan would bring them back
Passenger side mic could use some work. I don't know if it was positioning or just not as good a mic as you use for yourself, Zach. But otherwise.. man I wouldn't mind having one of those.
Extra clean!
Clean good work!
The KA engine is not Nissans finest.... the SR20 (esp the vvtdet) is great! albeit rarer in the US. credit to the builder owner.... very nice car thank you for sharing. I don't think its fair to compare the S14 to an E6 M3 (arguably the best six cylinder M car) as they are so different. I would expect the E46 M3 has a much better chassis (just personal opinion) .
The One takes are great BtW thank you for providing the content 👌
rob green it makes sense for the comparison given that both chassis are great platforms to modify and build off from. In terms of the SR being better than KA, both have its benefits and the ka with a turbo strapped on is a cheaper alternative.
RB>VQ>SR>KA
Agreed. I've owned four 240sxs and can definitely say that both the RS & KA have their pros and cons. I wouldn't say that either of them is inherently better than the other if all things were equal. NA SR vs NA KA or Turbo SR vs Turbo KA, both are good if you know what you're doing.
The only VQs worth a damn are the VQ30DET and then barely the VQ35/37HR. The rest are all trash.
qotsa1 VQs are fucking disgusting, what the hell is wrong with you. Two valve trains, two heads, no turbo, and awful sound. "Oh but they make good power and they're reliable." Fuck off with that shit, if you're making a race car it's not gonna be reliable either way, but it should at least be easy to work on. Which a VQ is not. If you're not making a race car, why do you need power? A fucking Geo Metro is reliable too, AND it gets 35 mpg.
Who is this kid? I was looking forward to watching this
I have a 98 240 SE that’s pretty much all original (except for catback) with ABS, LSD and no sun roof. I asked Matt if he wanted to review it about a year ago but he said he’s pretty much done reviewing cars unless it’s something very unique and not stock. It’s not the best canyon car due to the stock suspension (and low power) but I have fun taking it out to the twisties once in a while. Even took it to Vegas last October for the Project Car Challenge with Rob, Matt, Justin Bell, thatdudeinblue, tommyfyeah and others. Nice and clean example of the potential of these cars in this video. If anyone wants to check out the pics of my car, my IG is sliknik415. Cheers!
It feels like i can see my feet!! LMFAO!! This guy is funny.
Clean af
Need to see more overfenders molded in, looks cleaner
S14 are cool but were you really upset that you chose a e46 m3 over an s14 ? If so I want whatever drugs your taking the e46 is a way more iconic car in my opinion it’s a gorgeous timeless masterpiece that holds value and never ages also fun and more power stock for stock lol
Wish it had smaller wheels and tires that were wide enough to fit them, but otherwise it looks really nice.
How the fuck do you get this to pass emission inspection at CARB station? Most impressive thing is that this has California plates despite all the engine mods.
Nicely done
I like this build, it's alot like I would do it.
BoobieNizer NICE
“Chipped” 😂.... the tune is the most important thing of any build. Get a real damn dyno tune already.
