- PBA History was made at the 2024 Scorpion Championship where it was an all 2 handed telecast. This just shows what we've known for a long time... Two handed bowling has taken over the game. Not only was an all two handed telecast, four of the players were left handed. In this video we discuss and look at what happened.

The crowd cheering was one of the best it gives some real light into these matches and hypes it up, it’s fun when they cheer and I think almost better
Im a traditional "cranker" and my most common complaint is my thumb coming out of the ball correctly. If i could solve that problem, my scores over the season would improve, no doubt.
My issue is that, apart from belmonte, its not a pretty style. But thats not the aim of the game.
The game evolves over time - i remember watching videos of Roth and Amleto - then the domination of the free hook era of Parker and WRW - now we are into the high rev era again of EJ, belmonte and other two handers. The patterns need to evolve to allow the straighter one handers a chance too, but not dominate like they did in the late 90's. Its always been a game of getting the balance right.
Williams leaving a 7 10 after hyping up the crowd had me laughing pretty hard
Kevan Williams is by far the funniest dude to watch on telecast. Dude was bowling lights and was just laid back
The Right Lane, Thank you for uploading the Highlights from the Stepladder Finals of the Scorpion Championship. Also, The Moments from the Scorpion Championship were awesome especially the Conversions of the 2 10 Split and the 3 5 9 Multi pin Combination.
Randy didn't sound all that stoked on the all 2 hander show. The crowd cheering while the bowling was going on definitely reminded me of the old PBA telecasts
Great videos!
2 handed bowling had taken over bowling period. Not just the PBA. College. Everything
I'm not opposed to crowd noise during the matches, but the "oooooooOoOoOoOoOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" as the ball goes down the lane is infuriating.
Yeah, that has me pining for people to yell "in the hole" or whatever, total cringe
Was watching this during league with the sound off so I didn't know that the Packy/KWill match had the crowd cheering the whole time. I think that's a great idea if both bowlers agree to it. I know I would rather have constant noise if I were up bowling vs. deafening silence and then a phone going off during my delivery.
Say what you want. That packy vs Kevin match was fun as is gets. Crowd was in it and it was exciting.
Highest match scores was this particular match too
The right lane, not sure if you’re gonna see this comment but in reference to your comment at around 3:58 about the cheering. Packy and Keven spoke about it on their CZcams channel. They basically said that their was a college team in the crowd that they told to chant For them as they bowl and not to stay silent. That’s why their match had the crowd involved. Also BJ Moore told this same college team (who were also in the crowd for that event) to chant for him as well when he was on the cheetah championship show
Not surprising the crowd got into it while Packy and Keven they have 2 of the best personalities on tour. Packy is used to yelling Packy when he bowls as they did that we he bowled the PBA League in Portland, ME
It all comes down to shot making at the end of the day. The one thing I’ll say that can’t be argued at least at the amateur level is that using 2 hand (no thumb) is an automatic rev rate advantage. It takes the skill of hooking a bowling ball by getting the thumb out entirely you can come behind the ball more and get the elbow bend more as well which is the only thing I’ve never liked about 2 handing. But I also understand that some players want to have revs and they just get them throwing 1 handed. I like my 1 handed release, I’d say I get good hand but it’s mostly natural. At the end of the day, there is no one way to throw a ball and I don’t think any bowling style will dissapear
I don't know how anyone could possibly argue in good faith that two handed is bad for the game. It would be dying even faster without it. And it's not like one handed is obsolete, there are still amazing one handed players and always will be.
People who don't like change, or the type who get mad that they can't do it or a two hander has beat them.
2 handed is better it would get boring just watching 1 handers and I'm 2 handers with a 217
I’ll give it a shot, however, my solution doesn’t actually go against 2 handed bowling.
2H rev rates influence shot pattern design in an unhealthy way, in that lower rev rates have patterns that are near impossible to score on (Shark). The problem is that with urethane, the opposite problem is not true, as it opens 2H bowlers to have options on patterns where a lower rev rate would be stronger.
We would see a better balance of mechanics with a complete urethane ban at the professional level. However, the average bowler who doesn’t understand Rash’s point will simply disagree on account of loathing Rash, so having him as the “face” of the idea is unfortunate. Manufacturers will also resist it - hell, Hammer has been marketing the “still legal” angle, acknowledging the problems urethane brings to competitive balance, even if they still want to promote it.
The problem isn’t 2H, the problem is urethane, but people are more accepting of hating 2H than agreeing with Sean.
That Randy d bag announcer guy seems to not like it. Also urethane balls. Guys a kooky clown 🤡
Very True, saw a number of yound 1 handed bowlers during the WSOB.

This is genius. I have long arms, 34" inch sleeve, so muscle in all the wrong places. This has to help.
I don't call it evolving more than radical ball designs and lane conditions..... But Belmo was the one who made 2 handed bowling mainstream.
Nice!
Great to see Packy making another show!
EJ Tackett has entered the chat
It's disingenuous to say it has "taken over". How soon we forget. The Illinois Classic was all 5 one handers. When that happened, did we say one handed bowling has officially taken over? And in the Masters, one handers were 10 out of the top 11! Other than Belmo getting 3rd, not another 2-hander was seen near the end. Of course there are a lot of 2 handers on tour, but it is far from taking over just yet. But I think it's only a matter of time before the hunchbacks of PBA will be all we see.
What you or others call "evolution", is highly subjective. The same people also call evolution the bending and breaking of various NBA rules for the sake of "evolution" (..in reality for selling more tickets and tv rights). It's a different and even more unfair and uneven game than ever before. Also with less beauty and grace.
as the only traditional one handed bowler in my junior league, i definitely think one handed bowling is dying out. hopefully im not the only one though 🤣
It good for the life of the game, as they needed to allow absolutely anything to help bowling survive. The problem is, you remove so many super important things one-handed, thumb-use bowlers have to work to perfect to bowl well (thumb pitches, feel, inserts, proper gripping and releasing techniques, using tape/rosin). These were things that were once major skills a bowler needed to master and often made a major difference in who succeeds and who didn't. That's been removed. You need a lot less skill now to be a "great bowler" if you want to use two hands not having to worry about your grip. If the PBA was thriving before the Belmo revolution, they probably wouldn't even allow it. With the current state of the PBA, I wouldn't be surprised if they start letting you throw it overhand.
There will be no one better than Earl or Walter?
It’s better to have some background noise while you bowl anyway, that way you don’t get distracted when a mouse farts.
The hate here on two handed bowling is so close-minded it’s insane.
what happened to granny style?
If your thumb isnt a calloused mess, can you even call yourself a real bowler....
no
Two handers are here to stay -- sure its an advantage, but it's not going anywhere now. What would they do, put an asterisk after everone who's won a tournament two-handed?
Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Yes I am a one handed bowler.
Wilt Chamberlain was not a good foul shot shooter so he developed the skill to take a running start to the free throw line and jump through the air to dunk the ball. The best high jumpers in the world will run the the bar and plant both feet on the ground and then jump higher than any one foot high jumper can achieve. Head butting used to be allowed in MMA fights years ago. Belly putters on the PGA tour would be another example.
All of these things were outlawed in their respective sports as they hurt the integrity, beauty, and competitive spirit of the sports. It's not that others complained because they could not do it but rather a clear headed decision by the controlling authorities in each sport that is not what we want the sport to become.
Clearly two handed bowling on many conditions is the best way to bowl. The titles the two-handers have won is proof of that. The only question is should the bowling authorities allow this technique. Personally I would like to see it stopped because I think it has damaged the sport - and my ability to bowl that way does not enter my decision. I just loved the way Dave Davis, George Pappas, and David Ozio had such beauty in their deliveries. Two handed bowling is not beautiful in the slightest.
I am an old guy of 60 and could not bowl two handed if I tried as my legs are shot but i still average 220+ and enjoy the sport. I am not hating on the new breed I just think something wonderful has been lost. It's a debatable issue and I understand I may be in the minority.
You're not in the minority, but you're decisively and objectively incorrect about 2handers NOT being as athletic as the bowlers you grew up watching in the 1970s. Do yourself a favor and compare the way all those bowlers you mentioned throw the ball in the 1970s against the most successful 2handers today. Compare them objectively, in terms of ATHLETICISM, not "what looks beautiful/graceful."
If you want bowling to be "beautiful" or "graceful" at the expense of being seen as an athletic endeavor, then great. Keep your mind in 1977. Just don't come running when Bowling, AGAIN, won't be considered an Olympic sport this year if you have any stake in it being an Olympic sport. Because your mentality will be responsible for that.
whats the point in throwing it 2-handed when you are going to throw less revs then a lot of one handers (in case of Russo)
Because for most new people coming in it’s easier to learn and have fun
@@fleptypaper he's not most people anymore, he plays PBA level
I mean it hasn’t lol.. it still think it’s about even.. as players who are two vs one.
So one final means 2handers have "taken over?"
Little exaggerated I believe
The crowd was beyond annoying. Fake contrived cheering.
Umm, didn’t a thumb just win, again!
I really like 2 handed bowling.I always had problems with my thumb, like mark roth.I wish I knew about it when I was younger.deo was fun to watch!
Yeah we did it as kids with these light “star” balls and the pins would go flying.
Wanted to use in league play and was told it was illegal.
This is around 1970.
The silence at shows need to stop. More cheering! 🎉
2handers "taking over" (which isn't really a thing, not now, anyways) is an AWESOME trend for the sport. Why? It actually makes bowling look athletic and makes it entertaining to watch.
Look, we've wanted bowling to be an Olympic game for like a million years, right? Well what's less athletic than what we used to see before 2handed? What was MORE boring than watching it?
Now I'm not gonna sit here bowling absolutely sucked back in the day. It was just as good then as it is now in terms of it being a very good way to bring people together. That should NEVER change. But f**k ME did it look like a dad activity. Especially before the 1990s, when leaving 5pins was just as common as leaving 10pins and when 300RPMs was considered "impressive and powerful."
Do we REALLY want to see the sport go back to that? I for one do not. I want bowling to be just as exciting to watch as a boxing or MMA match where everything is super fast paced and we have guys who train for 4-6 hours a day competing against each other. I REALLY don't want bowling to be a thing where you as a spectator say "that looks easy. I can do that!" Not in bowling. Save that for golf or tennis.
If you want bowling to actually be recognized as a SPORT, then guess what? You're gonna want to see more 2handers in it. Or at the very least guys like EJ or Daria who look incredibly athletic even without throwing it with two hands.
Or we can just return everything to 1977 and have bowling be a dad activity. Choice is yours. I for one don't have a horse in THAT race. Because there are way, way, WAY bigger issues with bowling than "2handers ruining the game." Cuz as long as USBC and Bowlero have a monopoly like stranglehold on the industry, NO ONE'S gonna be happy. THAT is what we should ALL be rallying against. F**k Bowlero and F**k USBC for being able to shatter basic laws of Economics in this industry without consequence. Leave the 2handers alone, they have nothing to do with bowling being good or bad.
Nobody is reading all that but I hope you enjoyed writing it!
@@DS-qz2gu I hope you’ll enjoy the sport dying because with the toxic old school boomers discriminating 2 Handers, USBC making wrong decisions the same as the US Government and corporates like Bowlero wanted to take over traditional bowling centers to turn them into entertainment shacks and of course put StringPins to make Bowling into an arcade instead of a sport while fired the pinsetter mechanics instantly, I doubt this sport will stay alive when the US in control of the sport.
@@PinoyBowlerGS92 Definitely not reading that either but I hope you enjoyed writing it!
@@DS-qz2gu I hope you don't have Dyslexia smh
@@PinoyBowlerGS92 I did read that one and it's completely irrelevant to anything I said. Hope you enjoyed writing it, though!
As a one handed lefty, two handed is low-key cooler I’m just better with one hand
You are only saying its good to see left handed winners is good cos your a lefty
Not only do I believe that they should ban 2 handers, but I think they should also ban no thumb and lefties too.
ban reactive balls first
@@joedirte6525 Polyester ones too. How DARE they allow those!
Oh and oil. To hell with that! Back in my day, we just threw the ball straight. It required SKILL.
Ban approaches, too. It’s not fair because some people have an easier time generating speed with their approach!
While we’re at it, let’s ban bowling balls! It’s so ridiculous that players have such a huge advantage by being able to throw a ball down the lane and knock over pins. I hope the PBA does something about this.
2-handed bowling is laughable.
Sounds like Randy Peterson with that " revs and power" nonsense
Honestly, 2 handers should be in theyre own league. They talked about how Simonson was 12 years old bowling 2 handed against college bowlers and beating them. The proof is in the pudding that 2 handing is clearly an advantage, half the people in this were just recently changing to the 2 hand style. How many 2 handers are deciding to put theyre thumb in the ball? Im not against 2 handed bowling as a whole, but this is clear evidence that they should not be competing against 1 handed bowlers. Its to the point when these kids come up and theyre bowling 2 handed, it shouldnt be a surprise that theyre bowling really good, theres this girl in my league who just switched to 2 handed, she could barely throw a 100 with her thumb in the ball, takes her thumb out and is all of a sudden throwing consistent 180-200 games. Put 2 handers in theyre own league at this point so we dont see a complete death of 1 handed style, because at this point thats where were going. More and more pros making the move to taking theyre thumb out and dont look back should be enough at this point to separate the 2 styles when one is a clear advantage over the other.
