      If I need a certain thing I look for best deal if it's online,store,pawn shop, Craigslist etc but usually I buy what's in store on a deal. Usually needed for work so gets ordered through company and at that point I usually get the best, also because job won't go to harbor freight lol it's toofast or airgas depending on what's need tools or welding supplies.

    Recently started working as a diesel mechanic and i got a ~200pc Craftsman set, as i dont have a few grand to just throw at tools. My 3/8" ratchet that came with the set siezed up from backing off a slack adjuster (google it if you dont know what it is). But backing one off requires 20-30 ft/lbs and that siezed up the new Craftsman i got. Went back to Ace Hardware and got another one, i had another brake job to do and i could feel that this other new Craftsman ratchet was starting to do the same thing, so i stopped and borrowed a co-worker's ratchet. I ended up getting a nice MAC tools locking flex head that Friday when our tool guy showed up. Something I've always lived by, especially for tools, is to buy a cheaper one first. If you use it so much that it wears out, or it breaks, then consider getting a nicer one.

Granted the craftsman fixed handle is still a lot and I mean A LOT more than the $5 HF it does still change the end price per ft/lb comparison.

      The basic plane craftsmen is diff tooth I think and I'm not talking the polished one but the cast looking rough basic classic craftsman. I use my basic craftsman to break stuff loose then a HF rubber fine tooth. If I saw a test of those two then I might use the HF for breaking loose. Even if either is/was lifetime I still prefer to not break my tools and make trips/hassle to replace them, so I use a 3/8 or 1/2 breaker bar when needed.

    I'm completely blown away by the Pittsburgh composite. I was expecting it to snap at the handle at maybe 120-150 lb-ft of torque. Never would have I imagined that the anvil would fail.
    I was doubting whether to get a composite ratchet in case I really needed to go full-gorilla on the thing, but I think I'll definitely get one. For $5, can't go wrong.

  • @brian_youtube
    @brian_youtube Před 4 lety +7

    Nice test. I fail to understand the complaint on Craftsman performance here. Who is really expecting to use a standard size 3/8 ratchet at 200+ foot pounds? I agree that for $5 for the Pit Pro is a great deal and performed very well, but they are two different ratchets from two different brands. If you just want a cheap tool that performs well, Pit Pro might be for you. If you want a flex head and a nice polish handle, maybe the Craftsman is for you. Consider reality, where the 3/8 socket sizes generally top out at 20mm. A 20mm head should be around a 14mm bolt diameter, so even with a class 12.9 bolt you are looking at a max torque of about 150 foot pounds. Given the simple facts I do not see how this is a fail or disappointment with Craftsman. Those who think that a failure at over 200 foot pounds is an "easy fail" clearly does not understand how to use tools.

      Lyrical Walrus i agree, shouldve never compared the flex to a non flex, but the failure wasn’t in the flex. It was in the actual ratcheting head

    I wonder if craftsman has a higher price point so when the USA craftsman hand tools come out it wont be a drastic jump in price. What are your thoughts on this theory?

    • @ClientGraphics

      I have high hopes that is the case, but only time will tell. Some of it is really the need to recoup money on the initial Craftsman investment to shareholders and increase stock prices. Fingers still crossed for good USA Craftsman 2021/2022

    What's with the number 72 that manufacturers like to use for ratchets?

    • @ClientGraphics
      @ClientGraphics  Před 4 lety +2

      Tooth count on the gear. But really it all comes back to 360 degrees in a circle. The numbers will typically always go into 360 evenly. 360 divided by 72 is 5. So they call it a 5 degree swing arc. Yeah Math!

    Praising or condemning a tool because of this over the top testing seems foolish to me. Using a pipe for that much leverage on a flex head ratchet is ridiculous from the stand point of normal usage and wear and tear. They both passed the rating with no problem, but which one will be usable in ten years? Will the composite material and grip hold up or will it turn to crap like many synthetic materials do over time? Chromed steel is a pretty safe bet over the long haul with everything else being equal, but I understand those wanting comparable durability at a lower price point.

    I will never buy another Craftman.
    I have bought thousands of dollars Sears Craftman tools.
    Now the lifetime warranty is only available by mail.
    Plus Craftman never had a good rachet.
    Now Harbor Freight will warranty tools no questions asked.
    Even there cheapest rachets will spin better and not reverse direction on you.

    You had such a great impetus for this video....and you completely screwed it up by comparing 2 tools that were never meant to be compared.
    If you had the slightest inkling of intellectual integrity, you would have gotten 2 ratchets that were none flex-head, all metal, same sized. Yet, you went for a plastic body on one and a 2 piece head on the other.
    So much potential for this video, and you 100% failed miserably.
    try again, I look forward to it, its a great idea.
