It's a cult so they feel a religious obligation to go to Trump rallies. It's important to keep in mind that we are talking about a small highly dedicated group so most of the people at the rallies are actually at all rallies and fly all over the country after Trump. The crowd in New Jersey isn't Trump's supporters in New Jersey, it's his total supporters from across the country.
That's not new, that's how it's worked with republicans and democrats pretty much since WW2. The democrats have a total majority among the population but republican voters are far more motivated. This has only increased with time as the republican base has shrunk in total numbers. Right now America is still white dominated but while traditional whites are actually a minority so they are highly motivate to vote to maintain their dominance.

Trump claims 80K - 100K turned out for a rally bigger than Springsteen concert at NJ this last weekend at a venue that only holds 20K people max. Just one more example of his capacity to lie blatantly. The shot from the plane window shows that the venue was half empty. Meidas Touch ran a half hour video from the back of the crowd to the sound of Trump rambling and maundering with the audience continually leaving. It gives the right context of his stream of consciousness without the cheers. More videos like that are required taken from the back of the thinning crowd not focused on him.
