Escaping Weight Gain: The Truth About Professional Eaters

  • The most frequently asked question eating entertainers in the mukbang, food challenge, and competitive eating space receive is how they manage to eat so much food without getting fat like Nikocado Avocado.
While CZcams eaters like BeardMeatsFood, ErikTheElectric, Matt Stonie and others have cleared the air on this topic on a number of occasions, the questions about weight management continue to roll in with their ever-growing popularity.
Having a history with food challenges ourselves and still producing miscellaneous styles of food entertainment on our eating show, we’ve been the recipient of the same questions so we’ve compiled clips from some of the most beloved pro eaters to answer the question for us.
We know this is a very different style video than our typical episodes but we hope this helps demystify how over-indulging can be manageable without excessive weight gain.
Thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon!
    Much love,

Good message. I’m sure we’ve all noticed you guys don’t do big challenges anymore, and the truth is trying to live that way week in/week out is absolutely brutal. No doubt this is why Erik is the only CZcamsr left doing huge calorie challenges regularly. Everyone else has either stopped making videos, or does restaurant challenges. There is a _massive_ difference between doing an 8-10k calorie restaurant challenge weekly and trying to do 20k or even more calorie challenges. Huge respect to Erik for pulling it off, and to you guys and everyone else who has found a less intense approach that works for them.

I strongly believe some CZcams eaters purge after their videos. I won't name names. But how can you post an 8000+ calorie video nearly every day? Even running a marathon wouldn't really take enough off. The biggest eaters only post once or twice a week because they actually do count calories.

The only person I've seen doing daily challenges is Randy santel. And he only does it for a few weeks at a time each year when he goes on a long distance tour. And every time he gained a bunch of weight. Then he takes time off, loses weight and goes back to weekly challenges for most of the year. If you look at the last decade of his videos he's been up and down 50+ pounds. He's also not going to keep doing so many now that he's older. He finished a college degree in nutrition and is slowly winding down his competitive eating career.

This is a good question, I've been wondering about this myself. My take on it is that the body does have the capacity to heal itself IF it gets the opportunity. It seems that chronic bad habits eventually turn into serious disease, but giving the body 6 days a week to repair the damage may be enough to prevent it.

Good video. Although just a little remark it has to be said that some (definitely not all) of the popular weekly challengers out there, would probably fit the criteria for Bulimia. A lot of people don‘t know that purging can also mean doing an excessive amount of exercise to undo a large caloric intake (not just laxative abuse or self induced vomiting). Although Its more about the mindset for clinical valid eating disorders (+eating disorders have a biological component to it, which means that if an eating disorder was present previously, the likely hood of developing one at another point is quit high.) That said diagnosing someone with a serious illness can not be done just by watching a video.

    • @TheTakedownTwins
      @TheTakedownTwins  Před rokem +21

Yup, definitely depends on the person. It is of the utmost important to stay active and be in a deficit while eating highly nutritious foods when you partake in the activities of competitive eating, food challenge, and general eating entertainment that involves high volumes of nutritionally-void foods but there is certainly a fine line and can be overcompensated for in many cases. Again, all depends on the eater and their personal relationship with food, activity, etc.. 🙏

Most people probably never heard of or ever felt real hunger. Im about to eat 10k calories today minimum no throwing up or any of that. I don’t see why the average person who is sedentary needs “2000” calories a day. I ran about 12 miles today and lifted heavy weights for 45 minutes and only had just about 500 calories all coming from fruits, veggies and eggs. If the average Joe eats 2k+, I’m concerned ten thousand wouldn’t be sufficient 🤣

Yes training six days per week and eating calories deficit everyday except challenge day. Matt stonie training real hard to burn a large amount of calories each day to balance out the upcoming big meal he planned. Lets say, he needs 2500 calories a day, but since he’s on a strict calories deficit diet so he might consume 2000 or less and exercise to burn another 500 or more, that he save 1000+ calories a day, six days would save him 6000+ in total. Let alone most big eaters do fasting before and after the challenge as well, that cut another 2000+ calories in average. I know in one of the videos Matt stated that he had to stay active all the time, do long hours cardio and weight training, so that’s that.

I see you used Nate in this video and I'm so curious to what happened to him. He seemed to drop off the face of the earth like 6 months ago or more....

Unfortunately, this falls way short. We already know Nathan F already ousted another in your video with faking the mega calorie challenges. You also don't address the full game of pro eaters who puke right after and or are bulimic or both. Exercise, unless you are ETE who is doing 100 miles a week, doesn't do squat in the grand scheme of mega calorie intake. A mile walking or running is only 100 calories. Lifting weights doesn't burn squat. So, calorie cuts are truly the only main way to offset eating challenges. Unless you barf it up as is more common than people think.

There are definitely other methods some eaters use to manage weight gain and challenges have been faked by many.
This, however, is primarily from the perspective of weekly cheat days, mukbangs, single sitting food challenges and restaurant challenges.
We ourselves used to do weekly food challenges and managed our weight exactly as these guys explain. You eat extremely minimally (sometimes skipping food all together the day after a huge video with virtually no appetite) and exercise far more than walking a mile and lifting a few weights. It’s not a fun nor healthy way to live, but if you did a 6k restaurant challenge and are quite an active person, that’s literally only two days worth of food and you break even if that’s your only meal.
Anyways, we see your point and can sympathize with it but also have to disagree from experience. May not be able convince you of that but hey, not gonna be for everyone 🙏

I refuse to believe that Joel or Raina, who do 8k calorie (or more) challenges daily count calories throughout the week. Exercise doesn't cut it when that amount of caloric intake is involved. The only way is to purge when your doing that. Other folks like Stonie, Esper, Beard etc post once to twice a week, not every day like Raina/Joel.
