Great logical and intellectual analysis, exploring the nuances of the Punjabi ashmita.
I must say this reporter is great reporter and treats issues of punjab with respect. And has a broad minded view to societies. Otherwise people like saurab dwidedi just work full time to defame sikhs and punjab.
Modi tried to give healing touch by overt extraordinary respect for sikh sentiment, even re-opened 84 cases, brought likes of Sajjan Kumar to justice, ended "Black lists" etc .
But hardliner sikhs didn't acknowledge any of his good steps . Infact funded subversive anti India Anti modi "farmer protests" to undermine Modi 's trust with Sikh community at large.

Very healthy discussion on issues of Punjab.
I am from the south of India. All i can say about Punjab is that it's one of the best naturally endowed states with good water, hard working and enterprising people. There is no segment where a Punjabi is not there and not made a name for himself or for the state but when you visit Punjab it looks very backward except Chandigarh. I guess the reason is that they have always gone in the opposite direction of the center which proved counter productive. I also think Punjab should give an opportunity to BJP once and see how it's pans out.

You are right. In 1947, not a single district of now Indian Punjab had Sikh majority. Maximum population was in Ludhiana district was 42%. The conditions of Partition was that minorities on the both side of new borders will be protected by the both countries. Unfortunately riots happened and most of Sikhs from other side of border in Pakistan migrated as refugees in India. 40% of Sikhs living in Indian Punjab came as refugees. Refugees got agricultural lands and houses and rehabilitated. Border districts of Punjab became Sikh majority and that gave opportunity to Sikh politicians to play religious card to win elections in Punjab. And later, this religious politics sow the seeds of Khaslistsni
Militancy in Punjab. Nobody talks about these historical fact and upset the sikh voters.
