  • In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains what hay fever (allergic rhinitis) is, symptoms of hay fever, and treatment options for hay fever.
Hay fever is usually worse between late March and September, especially when it's warm, humid and windy. This is when the pollen count is at its highest.
-- What are the symptoms of hay fever?
    • sneezing and coughing
    • a runny or blocked nose
    • itchy, red or watery eyes
    • itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears
    • loss of smell
    • pain around your temples and forehead
    • headache
    • earache
    • feeling tired
    - Treatment options for hay fever include...
Speak to your pharmacist if you have hay fever. They can give advice and suggest the best treatments, like antihistamine drops, tablets or nasal sprays. If these don't work a doctor might prescribe a steroid nasal spray.

Sorry - that’s particularly hard. Thanks for your service though - sounds like an amazing business and if I hadn’t been a doctor that’s what I’d have loved to do - run my own lawn business

Great tip, except that the owner of the appartement building makes his own schedule for cutting grass. And the grass was freshly cut yesterday. I only slept four or five hours last night because of the allergy symptoms. Today is kingsday, so stores close early, so I can't buy nasal spray.

It's unfortunate when doctors overlook natural remedies like herbal teas. I've personally found relief by drinking peppermint tea three times a day - morning, noon, and night.

It depends on what you are allergic to. Maybe it's not hay fever. Maybe it's pets or perfumes or something else.

Hi! It sounds like you're dealing with night time nasal congestion. Herbal teas can be a comforting solution to help ease your symptoms. Consider trying peppermint, chamomile, ginger, or eucalyptus tea before bedtime to clear your nasal passages and promote better sleep. Remember to also try a humidifier, nasal saline spray, and keeping your head elevated while sleeping. If your symptoms persist, it might be a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for further advice. Wishing you restful nights ahead!
