  • A time-lapse showing the process of an oil painting I made of a Lemon a couple of weeks ago.
    I loved how this Lemon had so much character with it's big leafs and funny shape. I hope you enjoy this little video :)

    Ek het die Still Life Demo baie geniet dankie Marie. Dis so eenvoudig maar doen so baie vir die siel, Love It!! Le jy partymaal eers die hele agtergrond in voor jy begin werk aan die 'subject matter'? Weereens well done 😀

      Thank you so much for your kind words, Frederik!🙏😊 I really appreciate it!
      Sometimes I'll add in the background before I start painting the main subject, yes! 😊 I think it can be helpful to have a surrounding color to help me judge the colors and values, and also to help me correct the contour lines 💗

    Im still confused with the " fat over lean " . Im scared since i heard that my painting can be broken if i dont respect the " fat over lean " . I know how it works but i just dont know how to manage my medium. Do i do like 2 bottles , one with only solvent and one with only oil and i just put my brush inside each ?
    What do you do ? Do you always put your brush in your medium for every colors ?

    • @marieblomfineart
      @marieblomfineart  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, that can be a bit confusing! :) Here's what it means;
      The fat over lean rule means that you
      have to work your way from thinner, less oily layers of paint towards thicker more
      oily layers of paint.
      This way of painting is especially important if you paint in layers :)
      So the first layers of your painting should be thinner and if you want to make the paint ''runnier'' use a less oily thinner.
      Then your next layer of paint should be a bit thicker and if you use a medium this should also be more oily. :)
      The way I manage this is I use Sennelier's Green for Oil Thinner for my first layer, like my underpainting, and then I just use linseed oil if I need to make the paint a bit more fluid at a later stage.
      I don't actually use a lot of mediums when I paint, because I don't like to work with paint that's very thin.. :)
      When I paint I usually have several brushes, one for each area that I'm painting on. If I need to clean my brush between colors, then I just wipe of the paint on a rag or maybe dip it in some thinner to get the excess color out. After I've dipped it in some thinner I wipe it on my rag again and then it's safe to use :)

      @@marieblomfineart may I ask do you use solvent minerals spirits paint thinner or only mediums. I wanna do oil painting. But all the solvent I heard you use to dispose it in a special, I don’t have a car and my family don’6 support me painting and stuff, so is there any paint thinner I can use that I can dispose it in a trash can garbage. I have an oil paint and a medium called- Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel. Please and thank you.

    • @marieblomfineart
      @marieblomfineart  Před 3 lety +1

      @@dddd5989 Hi! :D Yes, for sure! If you want to paint without any toxic solvents you should order Sennelier's Green for Oil Products. They have thinners, mediums, gels and brush cleaners all 100 % non-toxic and bio degradable which means that you can dispose of them in your normal household trash. :)
      Here's a link: www.sennelier-colors.com/en/Green-for-oil_fiche_9895.html
      I love their products!
      Best of luck with your paintings!

      @@marieblomfineart finally thank you so much. It means a lot to me 😭❤️❤️ I can finally oil paint. My family didn’t want something toxic in the house that can catch on fire. And I don’t know how to contact the special dispose place or drive there. I don’t know the number to the trash people that comes to the house to ask if it’s safe for me to do that. So I only did water color, acrylic, oil pastel, since those I know it’s safe to dispose in the trash can garbage. I always been interested in oil painting since my art class in school. I can’t wait to order it so I can do the "fat over lean" method.
      Thanks a lot.
