Hit drop shots, he is getting old.
@@jimclawley7503 Would you rather attack his forehand?
Put the ball in play like Novak then you can win else if he don't have injuries then by the time you devise a plan how to win he will complete the match
He literally gives no time to think
Right from the start he will start attacking
Heavy heavy topspin consistently targeting the BH, then putting away anything short or at net
Great video! In depth analysis and good sense of humor, I love Federer but these are indeed his greatest downfalls!

Step 2: see step one
Nalbandian had an even h2h with federer before kinda not giving a fuck and losing a few to him during that period before retiring

That's hilarious. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe tell him the tournament is in a different neighborhood.

The only exception to all of these weaknesses was the Neo Fed from 2017. His backhand was inhuman. He was grinding on the baseline. Something just clicked inside of him. I have never seen him so assertive especially in the sunshine doubles, his performance was impeccable
Talks about how deep the guy held his shots v Federer, shows footage of half court shots.
yeah ol
Yes but with the spin it is deep, hitting right on the baseline is usually weak to volleys

Game Over for Roger
Man I'll never forget that 2019 Wimbledon final
He gave the ultimate lesson on choking.
The racquet change was 2015- the colour changed in 2017
This is why there’s an argument for 2017 to be Federer’s peak- yes his forehand/movement was superior in his “peak” years but actually in the first half of 2017 his backhand improvements gave him an even more complete baseline game and he was more effective coming forwards than ever. Admittedly his backhand hasn’t ever reached those heights again but it’s now a far more offensive shot and a real weapon when he’s playing good (5-1 against Nadal since 2015, and 5-0 on grass/hard courts) his volleys remain incredible and he still gets a huge amount of cheap points with serve and volley- even on clay. The one shot that hasn’t changed (for better or worse) over the years is his serve, he hits it at exactly the same average speed (123mph) and still can dominate with it...
Racquet change was experimented with mid 2013 and finalised in early 2014
TheWilbz Yep true, he switched back at the back end of 2014 and then used it full time from 2015
Don Killuminati interesting how you forgot to mention that he beat Nadal 4 times in a row- Nadal being one of the greatest of all time...
@@imonlyinforfraud1423 on his best surface yes, and still barely escaped in that ao final while nadal was finding his form after being injured for the most part of 2016
Don Killuminati Grass is clearly his best surface though it shows his dominance if you also consider hard courts his best surface...
The mental strength and his ability to stay in the zone for miraculous duration of time outweighs all his weaknesses.
Despite some tough defeats, I think in his peak he was truly unbeatable when in the zone.
Federer’s backhand in the past 3 years has improved inexplicably, no longer his weak shot. Watch Australian Open 2017, Nadal literally couldn’t keep up with his backhands the whole match, same goes for Wawrinka in the semis.
I’d like to add one here. You should’ve good passing shots in your arsenal. Federer likes to come to the net at crunch times to close the point quickly and that is where one needs to score. Novak has been doing this for years now. Also Federer doesn’t like rallies, so try to keep him in one and you can squeeze an unforced error
I hope you gonna do this for nole and rafa.
oh they're unbeatable
That would be great
@@benparsons4979 Rafa is unbeatable? AO QF, RG SF would like to have a word with you

All good points. Federer likes to front run so an early break puts him at rest and he can rely on his serve. When you keep the score close to him though, he can break down. Not vs regular mortals - just the top 3. But Fed can get nervy, surely contributing to his B/P conversion.
His backhand has improved though and no-one will forget his re-emergence at the start of 2017.
Honestly Federer looked and played five years younger when the 2017 season started, I couldnt believe how well he was hitting the ball, and the backhand was amazing!
Out of curiosity, what would you consider alternatives to ‘front running’?
@@EmperorsNewWardrobe reaching the end of the set up until 6-6 with no breaks. And being behind a break or more. Those would be the alternatives.
The Reactionary, I was really looking for terms for alternatives is what I was looking for
@@EmperorsNewWardrobe i see. I guess you could say "neck and neck" for reaching 6-6. And "coming from behind" or "falling behind" when behind a break. Just my thoughts anyway

Djokovic: And I took that personally.
This video is so well made man. Great work. Insta subscribed. Would love to see you make a similar tactical breakdown of the AO 2017 final. Man I'd watch you do this for each top 10er! Just subbed. Cheers
Aaaaaand I finished binging all your videos. So good!
The exact kind of Tennis channel I was looking for. Keep it up!
High bouncing backhands, as it's the most difficult of shots for one-handed backhand players.
That's presumably why Nadal is Federer's biggest rival - a lefty with a ridiculously top-spin-heavy forehand.
Well Federer has mastered that now!
i think it’s because he doesn’t serve and volley like pete.. pete never had that problem..
@@CSV1973 racket technology has evolved since pete's time (I think the old rackets aren't made out of carbon fiber like it is now), players will pound 110+ forehands into your face, so playing at the net is risky. Everyone hugs the baseline these days and the future of tennis is heading towards people who are tall and can bomb their serves + of course advancement in racket technology will make them bomb serves even faster. Most points will end in 1 shot.

Bro I love ur videos, they feel like a mix of Austin McConnell and a good documentary, I was shocked when I saw your sub count, I was expecting like at least 100k bruh ur soooo underrated
Thank you so much!!! Appreciate you being here :)
One thing I think you missed is the role of topspin. Federer absolutely loves people hitting the ball hard and flat against him, so he can reflect the pace back against his opponent. It helps explain his success against the likes of Roddick and Blake. Players like Cañas, Nadal and Djokovic can get the ball up high, particularly on Federer's backhand, pushing him back and making him have to muscle the ball to generate pace. He's nowhere near as good from that position.
He did overcome that from 2017 though, by stepping in and ripping the one handed bh taking it early. Only on clay was this tactic still guaranteed.
You just earned a subscriber. Great video, and that 1% at the end was spot on. Hilarious!
Amazing channel. Great research. Will always love the goat RF.
Great video, although I would reduce that 1% to 0,01%. The few relative weaknesses he has have been viciously exploited by Nadal and Djokovic over the years. Hitting deep into his backhand corner has allowed them to put pressure on Roger once his 1st serve percentage starts to drop . But I think that another weakness that you haven't mentioned is his return of serve. Time and time again, I've seen him not take enough risk with his return when he's break point up. Just blocking it or hitting a short slice has cost him a lot of missed opportunities. Still, when he's playing well, he's the best. He's miles ahead of everyone else in terms of quality.
Agreed, I briefly touched upon the service return in my third point, but yes big serves and heavy topspin balls to the backhand have been killer for Roger!
You mean to the backhand via a serve or just in general?
His return is one of the best ever. So gtfo
Can't be the best when his head2head against 2 of the biggest rivals is negative. Also tennis is not only grand slam wins if it was why play atp 1000 and end of year tournaments ?
3 goat players are currently playing its stupid to pick one . Maybe when their careers are over we can reflect and take into account all the tournaments, head2head scores, wins against top 10 , wins against top 10 on the route to grand slams throphy, weeks as number one etc
@@Godzy2011 I can like and support whoever I want to. I've always enjoyed watching Federer play and for me he is the best. That's my opinion. End of story.
Also I couldn't care less about who has the most Grand Slams, masters 1000 or year end championship titles. All I care about is who brings me the most joy and excitement when I watch him play. And that is Roger Federer.
I remember in the early 2000's David Nalbandian (who was a bit of a pushover for any other Top 30 player) would inexplicably beat Federer 9 out of 10 times (usually a grand slam semifinal) consistently
Nalbandian was talented as hell, he was the first consistent nemesis to federer, he was inconsistent cause he focused his efforts in the tour some weeks throught the year, he wasnt that dedicated either but liked to play with rythm, variety and the "perfect" play from roger gave him all the pace he needed cause he could control perfectly while redirectioning with ease the fast and clean shots from federer, he had great lecture of the game too, anticipates a lot and Roger couldnt dictate the points, specially the awesome backhand nalbandian had, theres a lot of moments when Nalbandian made roger run around the court like no other could at his prime
@@diegosotomiranda4107 Don't forget Hewitt too. I think he had a 7-2 h2h record against Roger before 2004, which is impressive in itself.
Both Hewitt and Nalbandian were Federer's toughest rivals at the start of his career. Another underrated opponent is Agassi, as Roger struggled to hang with him at the baseline early on.
Once he started to develop his all-around game, he took his game to another level and was able to slug it out with the top guns
Nalbandian was Federer’s Krytonite before Nadal. He once held a 0-3 lead over Federer at the start of their careers.
I remember when Federer was at his absolute domination best, Nalbandian beat Federer at the season’s ending ATP Tour Finals in 2005, and he beat Federer when he he was 0-2 sets down.
Federer never liked playing Nalbandian, as somehow Nalbandian would beat him.

Holy shit, i followed tennis many years and also analyze tennis games, this one is absolutely high quality. Looking forward to seeing more videos! You also overate my skill my putting 1% there.
The video is very interesting and well made.
However since 2017 I think Federer made some adjustments to the way he hits the backhand, I think closer to the ball. It would be nice to see how his current backhand does against Novak and Rafa.
Its super easy. Just change your name to Novak Djokovic
brb, just going to sign the paperwork to change my name!

This is super analysis..... Excellent excellent video...
YOUR channel IS SO GOOD, i would love to see the same video but with novak and rafa. Keep it going!
I'LL TAKE MY 1% THANK YOU!
Me : Becomes tennis player and retires
Roger: Still playing
Your insight is valid And i would like to add that the majority of his losses stem from a combination of two factors: a low percentage on the 1st serve and/or a high nr of unforced errors. The infallibility of the classic 1-2 punch is based on a solid serve and a decisive forehand and if those are not working , then his confidence will be low and that’s when you will start seeing the weakness on his backhand as the grinders will make it harder for him to take the ball early.
Thanks, I'll try this out on him next year.
Step 1, steal his spaghetti, step two injure his knee or back, step 3 play him on clay at wheelchair tennis where you're both only allowed to use your left hand.

This video is a bag full of mixed emotions.. first, the visualisation is great.. even if I am not a Tennis player by any means (I love tennis as a sport though), I enjoyed it. Then one of my all time favourite atheletes comes in the game.. Roger Federer. I was literally jumping with excitement! Then I reminded myself the tilte of this video and I was like, "Oh Sh*t!" Then he started explaining the weakness of the maestro, Roger Federer. It kind of broke my heart to see that. But then again the visualisation in the beginning came to my mind. Then the end statement, 1% chance.
Man oh man, I didn't know if should be happy and smile or be sad and angry at this video. I'm still confused after watching it thrice tbh 😂
But you know what I feel is, it's very very difficult to beat RF.. only some of the best in world tennis could achieve that because, he adapts and molds his style of play according to his opponents. How can someone beat that?
4.5 players: 1 in 100 is pretty good odds. Got a chance then.

Thanks for sharing this! I have a match against Federer coming up and I was really worried.
Just wear a Djokovic mask and Roger will lose automatically.
How to beat Roger?? Step by step guide: Only when he is not at his best
Very true, can't say I've seen Roger lose when he's truly playing his best
I mean he has lost whilst he's been at his best. He's still the GOAT IMO but everyone has their days where they play at their best and they still lose.
5:55 Roger actually said himself that he prefers forehand to backhand despite popular opinion that his backhand is the strongest. The video was something like 73 questions with Roger Federer.
This was freaking great dude!!Can u also make these for the other big 2, especially Nadal
Don't need all that...just put Djokovic on the other side of the net.
Djokovic be like: not interested
What an awesome video
When I clicked on the video, I did not actually expect to get advice on how to beat federer!
I could beat fed. He'd beat me probably 3/10 times, but I'd hold the 30-9 h2h. His backhand is so weak. All I'd have to do is hit a heavy topspin ball to his BH and approach and finish at the net. Easy wins. The 9 wins over me would've been when I was injured. He's free. Can't believe this guy held #1 that long.
How dare you!!
You can’t beat talent... RF is almost unbeatable in his prime.
Hi, ilove your work, very fun to watch
the analysis seems good one... but i feel its all about whats in his head during the match. i personally felt roger soaks lot of pressure during crunch moments as if he has to win for somebody else sake. His australian open final in 2017 showed how much he changed mentally and tactically. djokovic keeps winning from the jaws of defeat because he is so strong mentally. i guess coaching federer is all about giving him some mental conditioning and keeping him fit. He has all the beautifull and powerfull arsenal that a tennis lover would love to watch.
Easy..just be Djokovic, Nadal or Murray. They are all better players than Federer and all have winning records against him. Simple. Federer is definitely "NOT" the GOAT.
The backhand is special. It is one of the most elegant shot. It is one of Federer’s strength and at the same time his greatest weakness.
I will follow this guide on our next match up.
This is a sweet video!
