There's a lot of comments criticising Lucy for taking a flight for a small trip, that although I can see are well intentioned and coming from a place of concern for the planet... realistically it's coming across as overly judgemental and self righteous. Lucy is one (1) single middle class content creator, if she never flew and dedicated her entire platform to de-influencing people from flying, I hate to tell you this, the planet would be no better for it. You've been brainwashed into thinking the enemy is individuals when its governments and corporations running projects you've probably never heard of before that are having the biggest impact. Lucy's friend Leena Norms has several videos about approaching the climate crisis with a 'lazy' but realistic attitiude of positive panic, I especially recommend one on Taylor Swift where she compares her jet usage to a devestating project in Australia literally no one is talking about.
Tldr; Lucy's dad could've died, let her have one fucking holiday
Having a good influence as an influencer is possible. Being an influencer is a responsability. I for one am happy that some people disagree with this. I wish more of those commented on gigantic hauls.
I don’t see the connexion with her dad ? You can have a relaxing girl trip in your own country or a train trip away.
The total lack of self awareness with those comments is what gets me. I hope those commenters judge themselves just as harshly, because unless they're Greta Thunberg, they're 99.9% making choices that are for their own ease or pleasure that are bad for the planet. Whether it's fast fashion, amazon prime, driving your car every day rather than cycling/walking/using public transport, eating lots of meat or "exotic" food, buying disposable plastic products, using aresol, not composting or recycling, etc.... if you want to criticize, start with yourself. At least then you can make a positive change by improving your own habits, maybe even get involved in walkability and cycle path efforts in your own hometown.
@@milikoshki Lucy can make a greater impact than individual behavior, since she has influence. And she in fact has, regarding fashion for instance. « You can’t criticize someone unless you are perfect » is not an argument.
The reason why she is getting negative comments is because she has a influence, bad or good. Showing her entire viewership that taking the plane for a fun little weekend is normal to her when other more sustainable options exist isn’t good influence.
Being a presence online opens the door for negative comments and it can definitely suck. But getting a bunch of criticism doesn’t mean that everything that she’s ever done is bad and that she should is the worst human on earth.
What am I reading? Get over yourself. She went on a weekend away. Get a life! People go on holiday. Big deal
@MlleBambi I think most people can put together that someone flying very occasionally to go on a special trip is not the same as people flying for work that could be done virtually/ flying distances that could've been driven/ private jets/ government fossil fuel programs. Yes being an influencer opens yourself up to criticism, but its still entirely up to you (and others) to take that shot, you're not under any obligation. You could just choose to recognise that Lucy is one naturally flawed person, doing something that whilst not perfect has negligible damage in the grands scheme of things and isn't a common occupancy for her, and just because she has some influence it's still not exactly enough that her entire viewership is going to go "yknow what? Sod the bus, I'm flying the kids to school today!". Tldr; yeah lucy isn't perfect, but you also don't have to point that out.

Cyprus isn’t that short of a flight, to gets trains and hotels would be ridiculous. I used to go yearly to visit my family for long weekends? I am so confused by the comment section, especially considering many of these people almost certainly fly for their holidays too.

Strange the sudden onslaught of negative comments - Lucy said at the beginning of the video Jamaica was going for a break, Lucy got asked to go along, and given Lucy has been dealing with her father's health issues of late I'm pretty sure she deserved the break.

This looks like such a lovely getaway! I've always envied Europeans for the close proximity to other countries, cultures, cuisines, etc., making it easy to immerse yourself in something entirely different within a couple of hours. Living in Canada is pretty different, and flying similar distances within my own country is unbelievably expensive compared to intra-European travel. And I'm so envious of your train network, as well! I've committed to seeing more of my home province since travelling internationally is so expensive (and our dollar kind of sucks lol), but it's just a shame that you essentially have to drive everywhere since other modes of transport are non-existent or unsafe (I love bike touring but a lot of roads where I am are pretty dangerous for that). Anywho, all my own complaints aside (lol) I hope you had a nice and relaxing time!
So many negative comments.. judging… it’s a full plane, it would have gone to Cyprus… regardless. Getting a train, taxis, hotel room for a trip that wouldn’t have been a weekend and use would still have complained, It’s deserving, you’re all ridiculous, talk to your councillors, vote, call out the wealthy, this makes no difference.

Huh, that plane was not a weekend plane, do you think she went and came back on the same plane that sat there as it was designated a weekend plane?.. nah, she would have come back on a different plane. Again, that plane was going regardless, and whether people on that flight were there for a week, 2, or a long weekend, it’s irrelevant. I get being angry at celebs with private planes going to and from, here, there and everywhere. But this just isn’t it.. yours and a few others arguments are inconsistent

And others probably did, too... if there weren't a demand for planes to fly to Cyprus by holiday makers like Lucy, there would be less planes flying there... it wouldn't be cost effective for the companies to have lots of flights with little to none passengers. Therefore those companies would reduce their offer...

i came back to comment later an i can see a lot of the more critical comments have gone. While for sure, influencers have more influence than the standard person, to be honest, I don't come to your videos for sustainable content? I can see that you try in some places and are more vocal on some topics and less so on others. But I go to Leena for my fully sustainable content, i come here for the soft comfy vibes (and the singing!) It feels a little odd to suddenly hold you up to a different standard. I also definitely remember seeing a comment about going to a resort an not seeing much of the country, sometimes you just need a damn break! Also drop the exercise routine, you look amazing!

I don’t think the video is bad, or out of the norm for influencer content, it’s just the title that grates! Yes, I do just need a girls trip - but I also need more money than I currently make and I could never in a million years afford an impulse trip to Cyprus. A title that’s less focused on me, the audience, and more focused on Lucy’s experiences, would be much less likely to get my back up!

Do people not realize that sometimes it’s more affordable to fly than to train (and sometimes trains aren’t even an option)? Like london to paris you can do a £50 flight and the Eurostar can be closer to double that and takes longer.

As someone from the US, it's weird to call a 4hr flight "a short trip". People fly from Chicago to Minneapolis and that's less than 1hr. That's a short flight.

I live in Australia where it's pretty normal to take short flights to get to other states because our country is just so frickin big! Flying on a plane occasionally isn't the problem. Individual peoples actions don't make a difference in the larger context. Large corporations and celebrities worth a billion dollars who hoard their wealth are the problem. If you're butthurt about Lucy going on a holiday then you need to touch grass and get some perspective

Cyprus is a beautiful country but it has such a painful history. I thought with your university background you might have wanted to encourage your audience to learn more about such a popular holuday destination.
I have an university background and I have no idea about Cyprus' history... it's not like they teach this in communication studies (which I for example studied in university) :D

@@siana7700i doubt Cyprus was part of her course but even if it was, Cyprus is very popular with British tourists because of it’s tragic past in a way - colonialism led to the invasion and Brits got to sow the benefits 😅 in any way, Cyprus’ economy needed tourism for decades and now it needs foreign investors so locals and tourists are struggling to afford Cyprus while rich Russians and Isra*lis get to enjoy it all. Much rather have the british tourists if you ask me 😂
