Bird Feeding is one of the most popular hobbies in uSa the last decade. Retired commercial pilot loves to see those American Songbirds feed on my window sill close to me.
Washington’s eagle is really a story of hope and finding oneself . Looking for the elusive bird means you are always hoping to see the bird before you die.
Well, yoou know everyone's heard, about the bird. Bird, bird, bird. Bird is the word...
pigeon is actually a pretty good eat !
my dad raised pigeons and during my childhood every now and then pigeon was on the menu
....now that I think about it I'm somewhat hungry ......there are always tasty looking country side pigeons in the walnut trees of my backyard....
in 1961 when I was ten years old, I remember well my mother encouraging me and my siblings to clean our plates. "There are starving children in China.." she would say.. many times.
Good Friday morning History Guy and everyone watching. Have a safe Memorial Day weekend. Take a moment to remember those who gave all for our country. Their service and sacrifice should never be forgotten. OS1(SW/AW) USN Retired...

@@stuartriefe1740 You as well sir...
A tragic tale of mankind’s ability to be a proper steward of this planet
So tragic but true. . I’ve talked to Canadians in the 80’s who recalled being told about flocks of pigeons so dense they darkened the skies . Excellent review and a cautionary tale ,
Something slightly different. I enjoyed it.
From a lover of birds and the natural world, thank you HG, for this piece of valuable history.
You always enlighten and entertain me.
At least I’ve found this to be an exemplary and fascinatingly educational narrative, even if no one else does ! 👌🙏
I did. Love this guy.
😳. What?! We Love this man!❤
Excellent.
Good morning, Mr. Sin City! Saw you chatting up a storm with Adam POR yesterday. He’s a great guy! (As is Lance, of course.) 😊
White oak: great for drumsticks, too.
I LOVE history, not the dates and names as much, but how our past connections have led to our life today.
I think your post of today excels at this. (Why is the forest turning red?) Thank You.
Superb! Fascinating, informative, and humorous all at the same time. Thanks so much Sir, for what you do. I will highly recommend your videos to all of my family and friends. This is good stuff!
Love the bird-related phrases assembled into a clever sequence.
Fascinating history facts I didn't know at all. Although I had heard about the Chinese story, I had misremembered the scale of this extermination... And the consequences.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Just saw an old documentary on the scandal in San Francisco soon after the earthquake 1906 regarding Abe Ruef that deserves some attention.
Very interesting. Thank you History Guy.
Another great piece of history, thanks for teaching me this stuff!
What a tragic blizzard.

Your gifted ability to explain details of the world not commonly considered is amazing. This article on Birds could be its best example. Thank you for putting such heavily researched and thoughtfully presented details here for us all. I'm hoping this and many (most) of your productions make it to the world, especially to the younger school kids. In school, history was my last favorite class. All that changed after realizing how much was, isn't...
Thank you very much for this and most everything you've offered through the years.
By the way, I appreciate your upper-shelf tribute to Doctor Who. My dad was stationed at South Ruislip, England, so happily, I've been able to keep up with the show since day-one.
Good evening and good night
Love your channel! Been listening today for about 4 hrs. Always great info , great History. Thanks for all your well presented snippets as well as deeper dives. (Even snippets feel like deep dives!)
An interesting fact about the "blotting out the sun": budgerigar (budgie) flocks live in flocks with many millions of birds, and when the budgerigar flocks gather and move, they form clouds big enough to pretty much block sunlight.
And yet, some animal cruelty-inclined people think it acceptable to keep lone budgerigars as pets. The moral of the story? If a species live in flocks that blot out the sun, don't force them into solitude.
I'd like to hear your thoughts if any on the rib eye of the sky if any. The Sandhill Crain of my beloved south Mississippi or the giants that once lived here.
He outfitted his Canadian trip from my great-great-great-grand father's x 5 general store on the American/Canadian border. Christopher Benner as a veteran from the Crossing of the Delaware and Battle of Trenton. He and seven other Continentals took land in Denny's-vill, Maine in payment of their service.
Always great work HG. This post taught me a lot.
You know, of all the birds I’ve learned about, Big Bird from Sesame Street is my favorite feathered friend, & he’s my favorite Living Legend named by the Library of Congress, & he’s the only 8’2 bird honored by the Kennedy Center.
Great compilation, you should have your own tv channel.
My favorite bird comes in a bucket or on a plate!
I still think there is a correlation between the great fire of Chicago which spread into Michigan and the blackout of the east coast 1881
In Perth Western Australia I remember the huge flocks of white tailed black cockatoos casting huge shadows as they flew over suburbia 50 years ago. Today they can be seen in groups of a dozen if you’re lucky.
thanks
Would you do a episode about elizabeth wanamaker? Great alaskan
As an aside: a foal that is healthy can run 1 mph for every minute after birth. so by about twenty minutes old can keep up with the herd.
After 20 hours they could break the sound barrier
omg, ive seen all these videos.. now im gona watch em again.. The History Guy discovering iceberg videos is a sign of the apocalypse.. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
1 millions views for the dandelions video?! Well, better give em more of what they want. BIRDS.
Algorithm comment because Lance rocks and I want to do what I can to help him succeed.😺
Is it true the chicken is the closest relatibe or maybe a direct descendent of the tyranosaurus rex dinosaur? this blew my mind when I found that out
Are you sure it's not a Thunderbird that could be it
When playing Ender's Game, nobody wins.....
Excellent compilation!
Of course, if I had posted some snarky comment with out finding out all the facts, I'd be going off halfcocked,,,
Profligate, now that's a word you don't hear every day!
I really did understand "Autobahn" not "Aduban" ... Well, since I live in germany it's understandable, I - hope?!
T-Rex tasted like chicken!!!! But T-rex too ornery to raise, hence the chicken continues, but T-Rex, bless his heart, was doomed.
You wouldn't be a hiker in the time of the passenger pigeon.

We still don't know everything. We really never seem to learn. Parts of the world that lost trees from over logging for ships or barrels or homes, don't think about how long it takes to replenish 😢
A 21 ft alligator was hit by semi north of Laward Texas in 1997
When they measured him, the body was 21ft long. But only half an inch thick
@@FoulOwl2112 oh no, it was as thick as a big ass bull. It was just knocked off the road but totaled the semi and and trailer. I was the acting Fire Chief and was debrief
@@AAB371 this is true, your lacking knowledge does not justify your answer
@@AAB371 there was not one drop of blood on the road it that does not help your mind put the Right image in your mind. 3 years before that i was in a group of 6 ppl sure side of the Inland Coastal Seaway on Camp Lejeune. We all seen the snake nicknamed The Green Chaser. It doesn't chase you but it will make you run like hell is on your heels. It's about 32in High in 100 ft long. The Damned things at least 42 in wide. Most people don't realize that we live in the Land of the Giants.
@Kelly Harbeson they don't have the right habitat to get that big in Florida, however, the giant alligator was willing to walk 35 miles following the scent of freshwater. It was about halfway to the next water source when he crossed the road. This is freshwater, closer to the Bay, the smaller they are. Some bonds and small lakes will be breeding holes.

James Cameron and/or Michael Bay et al should get right on it.
This planet got along just fine before humans, and will do again when we are gone.

I kid I kid. Just had to be the first to say it 🤣
Birds aren't real.
The real plague on the world is the people eating up all of them pigeons.
